VIDEO: Proton Saga Angkasawan Advertisement

Proton LogoUsually when there is a new Proton car launch, this blog will feature the car’s TV commercial (for free, sheesh) as most of us are interested in how Proton is marketing the product. As requested by readers, here is Proton’s “Angkawasan” TV commercial for the new Proton Saga! This is despite me feeling a little wary about the resulting comments, as we all know how the majority of the rakyat feel about our Angkasawan project. So please, if you decide to share your thoughts in the comments, focus on the ad and not the Angkasawan.

UPDATE: Watch another video in this series of TV commercials promoting the new Proton Saga, this time featuring David Arumugam of The Alleycats.

VIDEO: The E93 BMW M3 Convertible

BMW M3 Convertible

Pick one: all 420 horses of that amazing V8 rumble you get to hear in full clarity because the M3 Convertible has an open top, or the higher rigidity and lighter weight of the BMW M3 Coupe? Most of us will be happy with either because an M3 is not something that anyone can own. For the rest of us, experience the sights and sounds of the BMW M3 Convertible after the jump.

ProStreet Romania: Borat meets Fast and Furious

ProStreet RomaniaThis is funny stuff: Borat meets the Fast and the Furious. More of parody videos made to poke fun than anything else, the main stars of ProStreet Romania are two drivers and their cars - a Dacia 1310 and a Lada 1.3 GTX Turbo. I am not even sure if there is such a thing as a Lada 1.3 GTX Turbo. The three videos mainly poke fun at European ricer culture, especially with “third world” cars. Good lunchtime entertainment if you’re interested. The first one is quite large so you may want to pause it and wait for it to load, then play later. Videos after jump.

MVS Virtual Cable(TM) Display

Typically in-car GPS navigation systems have been limited to showing instructions on a centrally mounted LCD display, and most modern systems also have voice navigation. Some car companies like BMW have started to display GPS navigation instructions on a heads-up display.

An American company called Making Virtual Solid LLC has another idea. It’s called a Virtual Cable(TM) display. It projects a 3D red virtual cable onto your field of vision, and to get to your destination all you have to do is follow the the cable. You will find some videos of how this looks like after the jump, but MVS LLC says in reality the cable is much more realistic - there’s just so much a two dimensional video can show you.

More information on the Virtual Cable(TM) is available by visiting MVS’s website. You can view three demonstration videos after the jump.

New Knight Rider Movie 30 second spot

Knight Rider Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR

In a world of product placements where Bumblebee ends up as a concept Chevrolet Camaro instead of a Volkswagen Beetle, it’s no surprise that the new Knight Rider movie will star a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR as K.I.T.T. NBC has released a teaser trailer on the new Knight Rider movie, which you will find after the jump.

Ford’s turbocharged direct injection EcoBoost

EcoBoostThe brand name TwinForce has been dropped for a new name called EcoBoost, which encompasses a far wider range of engines than just the twin turbocharged V6 we knew as the TwinForce. (click image to enlarge)

The EcoBoost family includes inline-4 and V6 engines. It uses a combination of direct injection and turbocharging to improve fuel efficiency. Ford group vice president of Global Product Development says customers can expect to recoup their initial investment in a 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine through fuel savings in approximately 30 months. A diesel will take an average of seven and one-half years, while the cost of a hybrid will take nearly 12 years to recoup. This is based on costs in the US.

The first EcoBoost product will be introduced in the Lincoln MKS, and this will be the 3.5 liter twin turbocharged V6 unveiled earlier. The force inducted V6 produces the same amount of power as a V8 engine, but it has a much nicer torque curve - 461Nm of torque from 2,000rpm to 5,000rpm, compared to a normally aspirated 4.6 liter V8 that only makes between 366Nm to 420Nm over the same rev range.

Ford picked the EcoBoost brand over TwinForce because the primary use of the technology is for fuel economy and emissions. It was worried consumers would associate the brand TwinForce with power instead.

W204 C-Class scores 5 stars in Euro NCAP

W204 Crash Test

The new W204 Mercedes-Benz C-Class now has an Euro NCAP score - 5 stars, thanks to its 7 airbags, seatbelt tensioners, belt-force limiters, and NECK PRO head restraints - all fitted as standard items on the European spec C-Class.

Of course, the body structure also plays an important part in the survivability of the passengers - crumple zones and such. 70% of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class’s body panels are made from state-of-the-art, high-strength steel alloys that minimise weight and maximise safety. Quadruple-skinned B-pillars and the side members absorb the bulk of any side-impact forces and channel these forces into the body structure, are made partially from ultra-high-strength, hot-formed high-tech steel.
