Volkswagen Golf GTI “Fast” Documentary

small_golf_gti.jpgA 16 minute 17 seconds video of Volkswagen’s Fast campaign for the new Mk5 Volkswagen Golf GTI. Volkswagen says there is a “Fast” in all of us, which explains the adrenaline rush and excitement we get when we’re in rapid acceleration and speed. The GTI is positioned as a fast car for the fast in you, that requires no more modifications or pimping.

Toyota Aygo Football

aygo_small.jpgThe Toyota Aygo is the smallest Toyota yet, marketed in places in the UK as a city car, with the classic city car characteristics like easy parking, great fuel economy, and an affordable price. It shares the same platform as the Peugeot 107 and the Citroen C1, which are basically all rebadges of the same thing. It’s powered by a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine making 67 horsepower. Toyota says this engine is the lightest engine ever installed in any modern car, weighing in at only 69kg. Top Gear reviews the Toyota Aygo, and as always they have something interesting in store. Football with a Toyota Aygo. Video is after the jump.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Un-pimp Your Ride

small_golf_gti.jpgThese are hilarious. A statement against riced-up “ah beng” pimped rides, and promoting the new Volkswagen Golf GTI in the USA at the same time. Thanks to cbljkkj for the pointer.

I’m trying out hosting the Flash videos myself instead of using Google Video or Youtube this time, so hopefully you can play these videos without any lag. Please leave some feedback on the streaming speed if possible. Videos are after the jump. There are 3 videos. Enjoy!

Audi A8 4.0 V8 TDI excellent fuel economy

audia8video.jpg

Jeremy Clarkson learns how to drive slowly in an Audi A8 powered by a 4.0 liter V8 turbodiesel engine. He puts the car through the challenge of going from London to Edinburgh and back to London again on a single fuel tank of 72 liters (19 gallons). That’s 1287km (800 miles). And he manages to do it. That’s RM92 for 1297km of mileage.

A little performance stats - this Audi A8 is a generation older than the current version and it’s 4.0 TDI twin turbo V8 engine makes 275hp at 3750rpm and 650Nm of torque between 1800 and 2500rpm in classic diesel style. It can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds.

Video after the jump.

How does Nitrous Oxide work?

zex_nos.jpgWhen it comes to souping up cars, even laymen usually have two words in their heads – turbo and NOS. NOS, or its proper name nitrous oxide. Sounds cool doesnt it?

Contrary to popular believe, NOS isnt the chemical acronym for nitrous oxide. It is actually the acronym for Nitrous Oxide Systems, the largest manufacturer of automotive nitrous oxide injection systems out there. Its become so synonymous with the gas, like how Maggi is associated with instant noodles, Colgate is associated with toothpaste, or Nescafe with instant coffee, or how making a photocopy of something is called Xerox-ing. Nitrous oxides chemical designator is actually N2O, because it has 2 nitrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom.

Lets find out more about nitrous oxide injection systems.

Top Gear compares Malaysian and Korean cars

gen2_video.jpgMore Top Gear! Alot of you are going to be very interested in this video. Jeremy Clarkson and the team tests out a bunch of Malaysian and Korean cars. Some of the ‘victims’ include the Hyundai Getz, the Kia Picanto, the Proton Waja, the Proton Gen2, the Hyundai Accent, the Perodua Kelisa and a Kia Magentis known as the Kia Optima here on Malaysian shores.

Apparently a pogo stick is better than a Kia Rio, and the Hyundai Accent should be renamed the Hyundai Accident. couldn’t blame them actually, they test drove a 3-cylinder 1.5 diesel Hyundai Accent that does the 0-100km/h in 19 seconds.

Top Gear actually liked the Proton Gen2, but I believe their sentiments is exactly like most of ours here in Malaysia - Proton has got their priorities wrong and should have traded in the Lotus sports-tuned handling with some Toyota-developed door trim.

Best car is the Hyundai Getz, but it’s too expensive and defeats the point of buying a Korean. Which might work well for us here in Malaysia, a Hyundai Getz is not much more expensive than other Korean makes so if you want to go Korean, maybe you want to look at the Getz.

Top Gear pitches the Mazda MX-5 against a Greyhound

mazda_mx5_miata.jpg

Now this is really good. Hamster from Top Gear reviews the latest best selling roadster of all time, the Mazda MX-5. A very good review I have to admit, but the best part of this video is the challenge the Top Gear folks put it through. A race in a greyhound race track against a greyhound. It is the year of the dog after all. And dogs are fast mind you, it goes from 0-72km/h which is also it’s top speed in about 6 strides. That’s about one second. A greyhound is also the 2nd fastest accelerating animal in the world after the cheetah. The video is after the jump. Do watch until the end for a funny conversation on animal handling characteristics.

Top Gear Video: Ford F150 Lightning

fordf150vid.jpg

A pick-up truck sporting a 5.4 liter supercharged V8 that makes 380bhp and does the 0-100kmh sprint in 5.8 seconds. You’d think Jeremy Clarkson would like it. Watch this video. He does make a bit of sense though. Let’s find out why the F150 is so popular in the US but didn’t really go anywhere in the UK.
