Honda FCX Video

Honda FCX

Here is a video that Honda made to showcase it’s Honda FCX Concept. To keep things short, the Honda FCX is basically a 4-seater car running on an AC Synchronous Motor putting out 129 PS and 256Nm of torque available constantly throughout the rev range of the motor. This motor gets it’s power from a 100kW PEFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell). Maximum range is 570km, which is comparable to a modern small car with relatively good fuel economy on mostly highway driving. Video after jump.

Honda’s i-VTEC I Engine: Direct Injection

An engine that has surfaced and pretty much faded in a short time is Honda’s i-VTEC I Engine, a variant of the K-series DOHC engine family featuring gasoline direct injection. It made it’s debut in the previous generation 2004 Honda Stream 7-seater MPV in Japan, but the current Stream does not use this engine anymore, instead using a 2.0 litre version of the R-series i-VTEC SOHC engine.

The engine featured the ability to use ultra-lean air-fuel mixtures of about 65:1, much leaner compared to the the usual direct injection engine 40:1 ratio, and of course so much more leaner than the stoichiometric air-fuel mixture of 14.7:1 – this saves fuel. Fuel consumption dropped to 15km per litre. Power ratings remain the same at about 155 horsepower. This engine in the Stream is mated to a CVT gearbox with a manual 7 virtual gear shifting feature.

Honda also had a demonstration engine back in end 1999 where a 1.4 litre DOHC Honda engine was equipped with a VTEC-DI system. This was Honda’s first demonstration of direct injection to the public. The engine was installed in a Honda Logo (the predecessor to the Honda Fit/Jazz) and made power and torque outputs of 107 hp at 6200 rpm and 133 Nm at 5000 rpm.

Check out a video of the i-VTEC I engine after the jump.

Subaru Impreza Version 10 Promo Video

impreza

Here is a promotional video released by Subaru for the upcoming 2008 Subaru Impreza Version 10. It’s pretty slow paced, probably their aim was letting you see how the car looks like in motion rather than showing you it’s performance. Video after jump.

Fifth Gear puts the Mercedes Benz W124 to the limit

w124.jpg

Yet another British car show tries to destroy a car. This time, the victim is the Mercedes Benz W124, but the motive is very different. Much like what Top Gear did to the Toyota Hilux some time back, Fifth Gear intends to test how much abuse the W124 can take before giving way, instead of trying to destroy it because they dislike it.

It’s interesting to note that you can still buy a stretched version of the W124 E-Class brand new today, badged as a Ssangyong Chairman.

Jeremy Clarkson destroys a Lada

jeremy-lada.jpg

This is a video for the MPs of our government, Jeremy Clarkson destroying something else other than the Perodua Kelisa. Of course, it’s not exactly a fair comparison has the Perodua Kelisa, as much of an old Daihatsu model as it is, is still much more modern than the Lada in this video.

Of course, Top Gear have done some really good things to Lada cars as well, such as this video where Top Gear sends a Lada to Lotus Engineering and lets them work their magic on it. The results are astounding.

BMW M3 GTR: first V8-powered M3

bmw-m3-gtr-1.jpg

Like most of you already know, the new E92 BMW M3 was not the first BMW M3 powered by a V8 engine, but it is actually the first mass-produced M3 with a V8 engine. A V8-powered M3 existing in the past in a very limited 10-unit run that costed 250,000 Euros a piece back in 2001, probably worth more now as with all collector cars. That car was the E46 BMW M3 GTR. Check out the full story and video after the jump.
