Citroen C4 Transformers Advertisement

The Citroen C4 replaces the Xsara in the French automaker’s car lineup. The car comes in 3-door and 5-door hatch versions. The shape kind of reminds me of the Honda CR-X.

The car is available with a few engine choices – 90bhp 1.4, a 110bhp 1.6, a 138bhp 2.0 and a 180bhp tuned-up 2.0 model for the sports coupe VTS version. There is also a Sensodrive semi-auto sequential shift option.

This is a funky advertisement used to promote the new Citroen C4. Would really appeal to those who grew up on Transformers ;)

Top Gear Ariel Atom Video

Top Gear covered the Ariel Atom 2, an ultra stripped down track car for the road (or a souped up go-kart, whichever way you want to look at it). It’s all praises, and you’d be suprised at the track test results at the end.

Top Gear Crew on Gen2 Promotions in the UK

Jeremy Clarkson and the rest of the Top Gear crew on the Proton Gen2. Alot of sarcasm! But it’s not really bashing the car, just talking about the promotion. Thanks to YouTube for the hosting.

A Lotus Lada

I’m sure most petrolheads have heard of MTV’s Pimp My Ride show where they take old junked cars and turn them into bling bling machines. Transformation is mainly in the form of looks and frankly I think some of them are really ugly.

Now this is something in a totally different league altogether.

In this episode of Top Gear, they take an old Russian marque, a Lada and send it to Lotus. The Lada is a pretty old car with faded red paint, and a 1.5 liter Lada engine making a grand total of 35bhp.

Before: Notice even the rear steel wheels are missing it’s hubcaps.

Ku Li: “Proton Tak Terdaya Maju”

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, or Ku Li bashes Proton in this unmarked video interview on 9th July 2005.

He says that Malaysia has no capacity to make cars. This is one case where dreams cannot fuel reality. He mentions UK’s failure with Rover and Australia’s supposed failure with Holden. I disagree. Holden was always part of General Motors from the very beginning. Just that it once made its own cars, but now just mostly does badge reengineering to achieve economies of scale.

He mentions Fiat is also having trouble. Huh? Fiat just celebrated it’s 106th birthday on 11th June. They look fine to me.

Ku Li attributes Proton’s failure to the car market being determined by the giant cartels of the automotive industry. The huge Japanese, American and German car companies total control of the market makes it hard for anyone new to break in.

He gives some history on how Proton came about. I am not sure if its true. Apparently Mitsubishi approached Taiwan to propose to a company be setup there, doing Mitsubishi badge re-engineering. They rejected, so they came to Dr. Mahathir and he accepted the idea.

However, “Proton tak terdaya maju“, he says.

In Rawang, Kuantan, Klang, tens of thousands of unsold Protons are left to rot in stockyards. More and more finance companies are giving 100% loans to Protons. 9 year durations. By the end of 9 years, he comments, the financed Proton would be worth nothing.

He mentioned something which he himself admits is unconfirmed though. He says in foreign markets, Protons are hard or expensive to insure because of it’s crappy safety features. Really? I thought the Waja scored a 3 in European NCAP crash tests? Hmm…

Most of his bashing is to do with the Mitsubishi era of Proton. Nothing about the new batch of cars. Hmm…

Anyway, watch the video yourselves. I have posted it up here for viewing.

Edit: I found that the video was posted here before me, so I assume that’s the source of the video. If otherwise, please leave a comment to correct me and I will edit my post to credit the proper source.

For those who don’t know who Tengku Razaleigh is, Google or Wikipedia is your best friend.

Honda Diesel Engine Advertisement

Hate can be a positive emotion sometimes. Not necessarily a dark side emotion. Which is what “Hate something, change something” by Garrison Keillor is trying to say.

The song is being used by Honda for their new i-CTDi diesel engine. Yes, this is Honda’s first ever diesel engine. Honda developed it to be used in their Honda Accord model for the European market. Since then, it’s also been used in other Honda models such as a diesel version of the Honda CR-V.

The advertisement tells the story of how Honda’s first diesel engine was created. Honda’s chief engine designer Kenichi Nagahiro hated diesel engines because of how noisy, smelly and dirty they were. What do you expect from someone who created the venerable VTEC engine. Such a technological masterpiece of an engine that was.

When asked to design Hondas first diesel he flatly refused – unless he was allowed to start completely from scratch. The result is one of the cleanest, most refined diesel engines on the market today, the 2.2 i-CTDi.

Honda used to offer diesel version of it’s Civics and other vehicles but this was through partnerships with Isuzu using Isuzu diesel engines.

The 2.2-litre i-CTDi engine produces 138bhp at 4000rpm and an impressive 250lb ft of torque from as little as 2000rpm. It features four valves per cylinder, common rail injection, a turbocharger and it has an all-aluminium block.
