MINI Countryman featured in Michelle Branch’s ‘Getaway’

Michelle Branch and Timbaland’s latest song ‘Getaway’ features the newly launched MINI Countryman. Apparently the car inspired Branch to write ‘Getaway’ – “I saw the new car and I was inspired to write a song about getting away and getting out from the everyday confinements of life.  Sometimes the fix for that is taking a road trip, so I worked on an exciting project with Timbaland and he produced the track with me.”

Not so sure if that’s the real story! I personally am a fan of Michelle Branch after her short stint with The Wreckers, I’ve been wondering where on earth she has went to all this while. Nice to see her come together with the very talented Timbaland. If you watch the music video and are only interested in seeing the Countryman, you can skip to about minute 2 onwards.

Dr. Wolfgang Armbrecht, Senior Vice President MINI Brand Management, says “We are thrilled to be working with Timbaland and Michelle Branch on such a unique collaboration for the launch of MINI Countryman.  Music is important to our community members and with this car launch inspiring the words for the song ‘Getaway,’ we’re confident that we’ll capture the imagination of those who live the Urban-Country lifestyle.”

VIDEO: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 race car

The release of the new gull-winged SLS has now spawned the GT3 version of the car. Built to FIA GT3 regulations, the new offering has been modified to produce a track ready car that is available to the general public to purchase, if you so happen to be interested in running a GT3 car in a race.

The GT3 car will still maintain the same AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine that produces 571 bhp. It is already sort of race-ready since it features dry sump lubrication which will prevent oil starvation and make sure all parts of the engine continue to be lubricated well during hard cornering.

You can catch a glimpse of the SLS AMG GT3 at popular 24-hour races such as in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, and on the Nürburgring in Germany. Anyone interested in owning one of these monstrous beauties can start ordering them in Autumn 2010, with delivery expected just before the 2011 race season.

You can also watch the SLS AMG GT3 prowl around what seems to be its garage in an almost silent burble.

VIDEO: Volkswagen Amarok ‘Elephant’ TVC in Brazil

This Brazilian market TVC for the Volkswagen Amarok features an Indian boy (who grows up into a man) going about his life with his trusty elephant who seems to come in useful in so many ways. And then his elephant kind of falls sick or something… time for the dude to get a replacement. Or so I thought… check the video out after the jump, it kinda brought the smile to my face and the Amarok looks pretty damn good too!

The Amarok is a ladder frame truck with a choice of either a 2.0 litre single turbo diesel engine with 120hp and 340Nm or a 2.0 litre sequential twin turbo diesel with 161hp and 400Nm. Not exactly Navara-beating numbers but the engine is smaller at 2.0L versus 2.5L.

What’s interesting is that two different 4WD systems are available – a high-low 2WD-4WD switchable version that we’re familiar with and also 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive that uses a Torsen differential to distribute drive at a 40:60 ratio so that the wheel with the best traction gets the most power.

Anyway check out the video after the jump.

Lexus LFA breaks a champagne glass with its exhaust!

Lexus’s new commercial for its LFA exudes an innate level of style and luxury, with shots of its plush interior along with its futuristic control panel, and the insane burble of the rumbling engine that goes on to make an incredibly euphoric cry. Cry that is so intense that it makes a champagne glass shatter into a million pieces.

Before you start jumping to unnecessary conclusions Lexus clearly states that no CGI has been used to make the glass crack, just a little bit of science. The LFA among other things is known for its beautiful sounding engine and this has been achieved meticulously by a group of engineers through the tuning of the multi-stage exhaust system.

Through inspiration from the soundtrack generated from a Formula 1 car at maximum revs, the team created a unique sound by emphasizing the secondary combustion frequency of the engine and then introducing primary, secondary and tertiary firing harmonics. Its so unique that you can get it as a ringtone on your mobile phone.

They then hired a physicist to determine the type of champagne glass that shatters at the same frequency as an LFA’s revving engine. This was supposedly achieved at an incredible 7000-9000 rpm. Lexus has been causing quite a stir with the LFA recently, as it was announced that all 500 models had been sold. The more interesting point to the story is the fact that a third of these customers were from Germany. This from a land of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsches.

Each buyer has already put down their 100,000 Euro down payment so it might be to late to check your bank balance. Nonetheless watch the video and enjoy the precision of Lexus/Toyota engineering.

DTM driver Susie Stoddart takes the E63 AMG for a spin!

Scottish hot babe DTM racecar driver Susie Stoddart gives the new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG a go around a racetrack. Apparently she likes to burn rubber while wearing heels. But to be honest there’s not much rubber burning in the video above actually, however there is a lot of sliding around and you do get to hear plenty of noise from the massive V8 engine under the E63 AMG’s hood, and boy does it sound good!

Look after the jump for a hi-res gallery of the E63 AMG.

Ferdinand GT3 RS – a zero emissions “tuned Porsche”

You’ve probably seen pictures of the chromed out Audi R8 being plastered all over the internet. That is nothing compared to this beautiful masterpiece. Named after the legendary Porsche founder, the Ferdinand GT3 RS has nothing to do with the VW owned sportscar makers apart from the fact that it looks like a 911.

Make sure you watch the video filled with action shots of the car taking corners on a track with such precision on what I can only describe as bicycle wheels? The exterior is supposedly “painted” gold and features front spoilers that improve internal air circulation in the car.

All this weighs in at just under 99.6 kilograms and only because it doesn’t have an engine. Watch the video above to see a truly zero emissions Porsche-inspired vehicle, or head on after the jump to see more photos of this funny “vehicle”.
