VIDEO: Malaysian car thief disables a modern car’s alarm and immobiliser systems in just one minute

A rather disturbing video on the Internet has come to our attention: one showing a Malaysian car thief – already under arrest and in handcuffs – demonstrating just how easy it is to steal a car, bypassing its on-board alarm and immobiliser systems.

Scarily enough, the process doesn’t take much effort at all, it seems. Equipped with a “master key” and an on-board diagnostic (OBD) tool of some sort, the perpetrator managed to get into the Honda City, disabled its alarm and started the engine within a minute or so.

This is not a guide, obviously, but rather a timely reminder that having car alarm and immobiliser systems are no longer enough to keep your vehicle safe. We should take all the necessary precautions to avoid such unfortunate situations from happening.

I wouldn’t be surprised if hacking the onboard diagnostics works for push-start button cars too. Time to go get a steering lock and maybe even pedal locks.

    • Hi, I’m kiki.
Ever since my dad got his car stolen 10 years ago, he would lock his car with a steering lock every time he parks his car.
Until today his car has never been stolen again, all thanks to the steering lock I’m selling.
My steering lock is world class quality, got a lot of other usage as well. I always bring it along wherever I go. It keeps me safe. Since we are all PT readers, sell you all cheap cheap.
Faster drop me a PM. While stock lasts.

It’s useless. They will just cut the steering wheel since it’s the softest part. Happened on my friend before.

    • Agreed. Easiest deterrent is a bright coloured and obvious steering lock. Any car thief will look for an easier option.
