Five more highways are set to go cashless come noon next Wednesday, March 2, according to The Star. These will include the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), Western KL Traffic Dispersal Link System (SPRINT), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) and the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR).

The concessionaires of these highways will be distributing 107,000 Touch ‘n Go cards at the cost of a RM5 reload each. There will also be SmartTAG devices offered at a special price of RM99, as well a 10% rebate on tolls for Class 1 vehicles from Wednesday until April 30.

Although all 21 toll plazas will switch over to electronic toll collection (ETC) by 12 o’clock, Malaysia Highway Concessionaires Association vice president Sazally Saidi said that those that enter LEKAS before noon will still be able to pay by cash as long as they exit the highway before midnight.

“This is because the highway practises the closed toll plaza system, where you take the ticket at the first toll plaza and then pay at the next one,” he said.

one thing i hate about these cashless thingy is that cars often get stuck at the smart tag lanes causing a long queue which is slower than cash.

    • Strongly agree on this. Prior to the cashless approach on Penang Bridge, I had been a TouchNGo only user and there were only 3 SmartTag lanes. But now that its fully cashless, there’s still only 3 SmartTag and despite having a SmartTag in hope of getting thru faster, its still faster to go thru TouchNGo only lanes.

Half baked ideas from toll collectors poor planning.

      1) its about time SmartTag come up with
      an upgraded version device.
      2) motorist must know the type of tint they
are installing – some blocks everything.

These are the main causes of cars getting stuck at SmartTag lanes.

Make SmartTAG devices and T&G cards readily available for sale at ALL petrol stations then implement.
