This writer spotted a car on a trailer yesterday evening in TTDI, Kuala Lumpur, and the commotion around it (there were police on the scene) made the party rather conspicuous, so I parked by the kerb and whipped out the mobile phone. It’s a Honda Jazz undergoing a TV commercial shoot, from what we can see.
Not just any Jazz however, but the facelifted Honda Jazz that has yet to be revealed even in Japan at the time of writing. We saw some leaked brochure images from its home country last week, but that’s it.
Now, it’s unlikely that the Japanese ad for the JDM Fit facelift is being shot in Malaysia – assuming this is a local TVC, the refreshed Jazz’s launch will be just around the corner, possibly at the same time or just after the hatchback’s home market debut.
Earlier this year, Honda Malaysia hinted at a 2017 launch of a “fuel efficient” model. The brand – which sits on top of the non-national segment – also revealed plans to introduce its i-DCD (Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive) Sport Hybrid system here, and teased a Jazz Hybrid with the said system late last year.
All the clues point to a return of the CKD locally assembled Jazz Hybrid, which should be sold alongside one with a regular i-VTEC powerplant shared with the City.
No front shot (which would have been near impossible to snap), but we can see the changes on the rear end of the Jazz facelift. Specifically the rear bumper, which loses the large black “fake vent” cutouts on each side. In their place is a more subtle rear valence with an upturn and body-coloured skid-plate-like trim in the middle. It’s also possible that different regions get slightly different bumpers. No apparent changes to the tail lamps and all badges have been taped up.
The Honda Jazz facelift should be surfacing anytime soon now.
