Proton SUV gets rendered based on Geely Boyue

Proton SUV gets rendered based on Geely Boyue.

It was recently revealed that Proton would be given access to the Geely Boyue SUV platform, as part of its deal with the Chinese automaker. This will see the development of Proton’s first-ever SUV, although exact details about such a plan are scarce for now.

The main thing most people would be interested to know is just what the Proton SUV will look like, and to reduce the strain on your imagination, we’ve rendered exactly that.

As you can tell, the rendered vehicle still retains the Boyue’s original profile, but with a heavily altered front fascia. A tweaked version of the Perdana’s grille replaces the previous Geely one, while the lower apron accommodates a larger intake and new fog lamp enclosures. A set of 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels from the Suprima S have also been added as part of the transformation.

Moving on to the rear, the changes are subtle when compared to the front, with a revised skid plate that appears less rugged than on the Boyue. Elsewhere, the taillights have been redesigned, no longer forming the Boyue’s C-shaped lighting motif. A Proton badge in place of Geely’s is the only other revision here.

It wasn’t stated at the time just how much of the Boyue design will be adopted by the Proton SUV, but these renders certainly points to something promising, right? Share your thoughts with us.

Looks quite promising. Minimal investment from Proton, save for the assembly & painting jigs, some pallets, the badge and maybe the rims. But to challenge the strong established Japanese & Korean makes here, the price has to be right.

Looks really promising, what Geely done for P1.
Looks very promising as well, what alternative leaders can do for Msia.

      • Well of cuz Geely, being big, has leaders that can fill in some critical decision making in P1. Thats the whole point of looking for FSP in the 1st place, cuz MY has quite limited pool of leaders in automotive that can take the brand globally.

Gud for P1, gud for gov, & gud for MY.

    • If the car quality is good and selling price is affordable to Malaysian, it looks good. Fuel consumption look reasonable 7 to 8 liter/100Km for such a heavy car (China WEB info). My friend bought Exora turbo and fC is like 9 to 10 liter/100km.
Anyway, Geely and Proton partnership help to secure ten of thousand rice bowl and link industrial. What Malaysian look for is quality good with reasonable and affordable price.

I think Lotus will benefit the most on this SUV platform. With smart strategy, they will sell bucket loads of this SUV and can basically fund their other project, like what Porsche did before.

    • Not sure whatcha implying cuz P1 factory neither works slower than needed or faster than needed. All activities r based on takt time and pull system. The same goes for Geely as well, in fact this is applied to all carmakers.

With all the new offerings on the table,
who wants to buy a Saga or even a Perdana ?
Better wait and see what direction PG is taking. Will take some time and many boardroom tussles b4 a decision on Proton’s fate.
Looks.like the dream of a new turbo engine is down the drain cos P1 will have other options rather than producing their own engines.
Looking forward to the phasing out of the current VVTi / Campro engines. Finally.

IMHO, current Saga looks much better than any B-Segment Geely offered. Same goes with current Perdana. Techwise, Geely is ahead I think.

If they are smart, they better only bring in the 1.8 turbo variant.

2.4L kinda archaic, and unlikely popular cuz higher fc and road tax.

        • I watched some review videos of the Geely Bouye. Overall it is a promosing vehicle if proton can refine it further, but they should offer it with just the 1.8 turbo and AWD. Hate to admit it but proton engineers can most probably tune the ride better for malaysian roads when they engineer the RHD version of it. As for quality, don’t think we need to worry about that but the refinement would still be a mystery here.

Wait at least 1 year to see fruit. Not only simple outer design cosmetic change but adaptation to Right Hand Drive and relevant associate parts will take time to develop and ultimately produce for assembly.

BTW, how long did P1 take to just do cosmetic changes to current Accordana? Was it nearly 2 years?

If Proton do make this SUV, the back will read – Under licence by Geely.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 4
    • Why should they do that?

I never read ‘under license by Renault’ on Smart cars (based on the Renault Twingo) or Mercedes Citan transporters (based on the Renault Kangoo)?

Nowadays it’s normal that manufacturers share platforms, engines, gearboxes and even complete cars.
