FIRST LOOK: 2017 Volvo V40 in Malaysia – RM180,888

The facelifted Volvo V40 has been launched in Malaysia, arriving in a sole T5 Inscription variant, and is the focus of our new walk-around video. Priced at RM180,888 on-the-road without insurance, the new V40 gains a few aesthetic updates to match some its newer siblings.

The most noticeable are the brand’s “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights that are part of the V40’s LED headlights. There’s also a redesigned Iron Mark logo fitted to the new Inscription grille, along with the car’s sensors for its active safety systems. Also part of the getup are a set of 17-inch ‘Sarpas’ diamond-cut alloy wheels finished in silver and wrapped with 225/45 tyres.

Inside, the dash inlay has been replaced with a Milled Aluminium finish from the previous Shimmer Graphite. New ‘Inscription’ tread plates have also been added, and the updated Iron Mark can be seen in other interior bits (steering wheel, Sensus display and key fob).

The V40 is powered by a Drive-E T5 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,800 rpm. The mill is mated to an Aisin-sourced eight-speed torque converter automatic, with drive going to the front wheels.

Do watch the video above to get a better look at the new updated Volvo model, and for detailed specifications of the Volvo V40 T5 Inscription, head on over to CarBase.my.

If you care about RV, then Volvo is not a car for you, get a Toyota instead.
Volvo is targeted to people who prioritize safety more than design and performance. Their cars are designed to keep passengers safe in most accidents that could happen.
Recently Volvo is catching up in the market, filling up their missing puzzle that were absent before this, Design and Performance. Now you have Safety, Performance, Design and not to mention their super comfy seats all in one car.

RV people = Money more important than Safety/Lives
Smart people = Safety > Money

Btw, UMW T don’t care about safety that much.
Profit > Lives. They don’t do airbags recall campaign like Honda did.
Honda already bring in Active safety in Malaysia, -The Honda Sensing.
Boycott the less safety car, then they will include all those safety equipment in their cars. CONSUMER POWER !!!

If you could afford a car at this price or higher, you really don’t have to bother about RV.

every time volvo launch a new car , all sales men and hardcore supporter and reviewer make all huu haaa super marketing comment, at the end of the day, sales figure tells that it is still not the choice of Malaysian. People here care about brand image, luxury status, RV and reliability.

Sayangnya Keith Schaffer no longer VCM CEO :(

Volvo should indeed continue to offer 5+5+5 after sales package.

    • Research before posting on Jun 22, 2017 at 9:55 am

You, my friend just post comments before researching. It’s no wonder this new generation just believe everything without double-checking.
The video clip you are referring to happened in Dominican Republic and the car did not have the pedestrian detection function. Even if it does, a driver can easily override the system by stepping on the accelerator.

Therefore, it is never safe to test automatic braking function with people. Please don’t ever try it with Honda Sensing also. These functions are only meant to be used in an actual emergency..

I’ve checked, there is no ACC. City safety (autonomous braking) is just up to 30 km/h. This is like the new MyVi. Come on volvo, put the similar spec as the other Volvos (with ACC, higher speed autonomous braking with RADAR). I dont mind the power. Car this size, 150 to 180 hp is more than enough. SAFETY. Thats what people need. Btw, 180k price is nice!
