Toyota Vios Sports Edition open for booking – RM85k

Official distributor UMW Toyota Motor is looking to cash in on the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Vios Challenge with a new special edition variant of the Vios that’s now open for booking. The Toyota Vios Sports Edition is inspired by the race cars that will take part in the series, fitted with a number of sports accessories. Available in a single spec, the Sports Edition is priced at RM85,300 on-the-road without insurance.

From the looks of it, the Sports Edition is based on the base 1.5J variant, adding an all-round bodykit, a large goalpost-style rear spoiler and 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels similar to the ones on the 1.5G – albeit in a black rather than two-tone finish. There are also black and red body stripes, again inspired by the race car.

Toyota Vios Sports Edition open for booking – RM85k

Inside, the Sports Edition gets sports seats, unique floor mats and gearknob and illuminated scuff plates, as well as amber footwell lighting instead of the usual blue. Other than that, standard equipment should remain identical, and include halogen reflector headlights, LED daytime running lights, rear fog lights, keyless entry, push-button start, a radio/CD player with Bluetooth, four speakers, dual airbags and stability control.

Power comes from the usual 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine that produces 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, matched to a CVT instead of the race car’s five-speed manual gearbox. The Sports Edition is also equipped with sports suspension that drops the ride height by 27 mm.

Its a small family sedan , nothing sporty about it.
          1.5 , low output only 107hp
CVT , wobbly suspension nothing sporty about that.
What I hate the most, The blinding rear foglight
2 model advertise as sport but among the least power in the B-segment , VIOS & ALMERA
TOO MUCH Ah Beng & Sport wannabe.

Expected to be the most reliable but only provide 3 years warranty.
Shame on you UMW T, always think about profit & bodykits instead of better safety & specs.

        • Tell me does Vios have any ANCAP or Asean CAP safety rating? City did score 5 stars for both but the only safety rating Vios had was the Dugong version. It’s been 4 years since catfish is out but why no safety rating published yet?
That’s why its not surprising for people to classify Vios as tin kosong
Vios DOHC engine but with 12hp and 5nm less than City
          16in vs 15in wheels
          6 airbags vs 2
led headlights and rear lights vs halogen and bulb
          automatic vs manual aircon
          rear vents vs none
cruise control and paddle shift vs none
V spec cheaper than G and Sportivo

Kudos Alan for laying out specific facts with certain degree of depth for healthy debate. I am not here to pick a fight but I couldn’t stand a handful of commenters here who bash lazily. Imagine they are still commenting Vios, Altis and Camry without VSC today which is not true. Toyota Malaysia added VSC to their cars around end of Year 2016 though is a bit late relative to other brands.
Just one correction to your point on price. City V is more expensive than Vios G.

    The race car is
    * based on a Vios 1.5J manual but
    * with a 10% power hike (the 2NR-FE makes 107 PS/140 Nm stock) and track-essential mods.
    * TRD parts include an aerodynamic kit,
    ** exhaust system,
    ** clutch and
    ** limited-slip differential (LSD),
    ** suspension system,
    ** brake pads,
    ** tower bar and
    ** lower brace bars,
** and a full roll cage.

LOL Sport Edition using CVT? While the Gazoo using MT?

Why not just give 19″ tire, carbon fibre GT wing, undercarriage neon light? WTF UMWT.

  • Why it make the manual variant also? Since it’s actually base on it as a race replica. Change the wheels and add more trd features like air filter, strut bars, exhaust n maybe a remap to the ecu for better performance. So can also justify for the increase in price. “Hope” it’s not a sales gimmick to boost sales.
Coz I don’t see the justification of such a price
Leap. Why not just put ori seats or trd seats from the exciting model.
