Toyota is the best-selling car manufacturer in 49 countries in 2016, Volkswagen 2nd with 14 countries

Even though the Volkswagen Group managed to beat Toyota in terms of global sales last year, a closer look reveals Toyota to be the most popular car manufacturer in the world (also the most searched).

According to data compiled by Regtransfers, Toyota is the highest selling brand in 49 countries, ahead of Volkswagen with 14 counties and Ford with eight countries. The infographic provided here is based on analysis of 2016 sales figures to reveal the top selling car manufacturer in every country.

As the map shows, Toyota is strong in several key markets like Latin America, Asia and Africa, whereas Volkswagen sales are mainly concentrated in European countries like Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Croatia and Belarus.

Ford meanwhile, managed to capture key markets like the United States, Canada and New Zealand. Other car manufacturers after the Blue Oval include Renault and Skoda, both popular in six countries, followed by Dacia and Fiat, which are popular in five countries. For Malaysians, Perodua is the most popular make (Regtransfers used the wrong logo), which is also in line with the national car manufacturer’s 2016 sales performance.

All of you stupid. The whole world is stupid. Honda makes the best cars. City with 6 airbags is the best. Civic 1.5 turbo is best C segment in Asia. Even better than Ford focus. More powerful than golf 1.4. CRZ, CRV, BRZ, HRZ.. All good looking with best safety features. Can’t you see??

This also shows how trivial ‘Malaysia’ is in foreigner’s eyes (esp the first-world countries). Nobody even care to verify what’s this place & what’s this brand for this ‘another’ country on the map.

I’m not simply being sarcastic, think if this is USA and such mistakes happen, this map is as good as trash.

I was is Australia for some years, when I want to explain that I am from Malaysia, I always have to say “the country above Singapore” and they were like “Oooo that”. They are also suprised when I said Petronas is a company from Malaysia.

he Malaysian new car market is up 13% year-on-year in May to 50.600 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 7.4% to 234.186 units. Brand leader Perodua follows the market at +13% to an ultra-dominant 34% share, but it’s below on the podium that the biggest gains are to be seen: Honda surges 62% to 18.1% share and Proton is up 42% to 14.2% whereas Toyota drops 1% to 12%, all manufacturer falling pretty close to their respective YTD levels. Only BMW (+18%) is in positive in the remainder of the Top 10, with Nissan (-15%), Mercedes (-4%), Isuzu (-11%) and Mazda (-25%) all losing ground. Below, let’s single out Subaru (+88%), Volvo (+527%) and Renault (+70%) all posting spectacular gains.

  • Honda is famous coz they selling at reasonable price, value for money,RV & nice design.Compare with Toyota selling slightly expensive, less specs and weird design.Furthermore Honda investment in 3s are widely available equally as good as Toyota and Korean makes. The reason why Honda appreciates Malaysia by it’s big factory in Melaka. This is win win gestures.Toyota was top in Malaysia for decades but they just invest for small assembly factory.See how low Toyota treated Malaysian?

50% of the global car sales in 2016 happened in China (30%) and US (20%). This was followed by Japan (5%), Germany (3%), France (3%), India (3%). Your popularity ranking is rather misleading.

It really amazes me how VW can be still so popular. My overall ownership experience for the past 5.5 years suggests it should be at near bottom of anyone’s list.

On the other hand, perodua is actually a rebadged daihatsu (which is essentially a Toyota) so this means..

    Perodua 200k.
    Toyota 75k

    So for Malaysia

    Toyota > the rest
