Bermaz revealed back in April it could launch the second-generation CX-5 in Malaysia by September or October this year. It appears a local dealer can’t wait to begin hawking the model, and has uploaded a “coming soon” post on its Facebook page.
There isn’t a whole lot of information about the local-spec CX-5 destined for Malaysia, and the attached photos are taken directly from Mazda Singapore’s official Facebook page.
The new CX-5 features the same engine line-up as before – 2.0 and 2.5 litre SkyActiv-G petrol engines as well as a sole 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D diesel – all of which are currently available for the first-gen model on sale now. It is likely these engines will be offered when the second-gen model is launched here.
The new car measures 4,550 mm in length (-5 mm without a license plate holder), 1,840 mm in width (unchanged) and 1,690 mm in height (+20 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (unchanged).
The sharp, new styling is influenced by the CX-3 and CX-9, with highlights including a new grille, slimmer headlights and A-pillars that have been moved back. The CX-5 also gets receives a new exterior body colour called Soul Red Crystal, an evolution of Mazda’s trademark Soul Red Metallic.
Moving inside, the cabin of the new CX-5 is world’s apart from its predecessor, with a completely redesigned dashboard. There’s now a free-standing touchscreen for the infotainment system and more angular air-con vents as well.
Elsewhere, there’s the new three-spoke steering wheel from the CX-9, accompanied by other items such as the air-con switchgear, Commander Control dial, gear selector, engine start/stop button, full-colour Active Driving Display, 10-speaker Bose sound system and 4.6-inch colour TFT LCD display instrument cluster, some of which are as per current Mazda models.
Other improvements over the previous model include better NVH performance, and the adoption of Mazda’s SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics vehicle motion control technologies, which includes brand’s G-Vectoring Control (GVC) system.
We were told the second-gen CX-5 will be a locally-assembled (CKD) model from Mazda Malaysia’s Inokom plant in Kulim. The facility, which is currently being upgraded, will allow CKD models to be painted with the brand’s premium colours like Soul Red Metallic (Soul Red Crystal as well?) and Machine Gray.

Nah. Waiting for the new XC60.
XC60 is Chinese.
CRV is a better buy
XC60 rm325k worth every sen.
The rich people already switch to CRV. Long forgotten the CX5. The middle class now waiting for Proton Boyou.
The poor people are happy with their Alza and Exora
um since when do rich ppl buy crv, pretty sure its rich ppl buy premium german brands, middle class buy VW, peugeot, mazda, honda and lowclass by local. and guys pls stop comparing these cars to premium brands like volvo. they arent even in the same class wth?
I will go for CRV. Not much different in term of cx5 design
@leafable,
We understand your enthusiasm towards XC-60. But you’re not making any sense by comparing XC-60 vs CX-5. XC60 is luxury range , u should compare with Q5, glc,or X3 !!!
its either u downgrade XC60 or look up at CX5 !!!
Xc60 is yet the category of german bug definitely a level above Japanese suv
Good lets all bodo buy bodo car
(Like) CX-5.
(Dislike) CR-V
Hope prices is 30% cheaper as promised by our Government
Looks better than the outgoing model. Huge discount for CX5 soon?
Tiguan. COTY
CRV tabao this.. bcos got Turbo.. lol
Just see how many Civic Turbo vs Mazda3
Unfortunately for the time being, Mazda don’t believe turbocharging for mass production
But the 2.2 diesel oso can dapao this New CRV 1.5,the price almost same at 170k price range full speac
cx5 diesel is 1 second slower to 100 km compare to crv
2.5 Turbo CX-9.
Tsi outdated like Cfe.
Civic is ah beng ah lian cars…lol
dont forgot they got the diesel
Turbo so what, 1.5l is like a small dixx trying very hard.
Tak payah launch. This thing won’t be able to compete with the new CR-V because it will be overpriced and underspecced as usual. Also, for handling, people rather go for the Subaru Forester.
Similarly people don’t like either the CR-V or the Forester because of their awful, whiney, unrefined CVT’s.
Handling Tiguan bestest!
People don’t often choose a car based on one thing only
what ever the cx5 or the crv active sky vtec turbo cvt gear… pls make way when u see sportage 2.0 turbo diesel or its cousin tucson 1.6 turbo petrol coming from behind u on the highway ok.. getting tired of high beaming these slow species of vehicle clogging the higways
The 2.2’diesel , omg is so sleeper
It doesn’t matter how great or premium the Mazda CX-5 is. Consumers just don’t have the confidence in Bermaz’s sad after sales service. And Bermaz always offer underspecs cars but charge premium prices for them. Overall just not as appealing as the new Honda CRV.
But the 2.2 diesel oso can dapao this New CRV 1.5,the price almost same at 170k price range full speac
Will VT be generous? When doing business? NEVER!
Wow so beautiful but too bad most Malaysians are so hadap with honda then of course they will buy the ugly crv instead..no taste maaa..what to do…
Unless Mazda come with CX-5 hybrid or CX-8 (CX-5 with 5+2 three rows seats) it’s very hard to challenge the Honda.
I like my 2014 mazda cx5 design, the front end of this new model just not my preference.
“-5 mm without a license plate holder” haha, laugh die me
People got their own choice and taste. No need to judge a car just because you don’t like it. Every car has its own pros and cons, so do human which are not perfect.
I like how PT put SG’s launch and half a million ringgit price tag for the same car post right after this post. Kinda make me feel that if the car is prices RM200k I’m still paying much lower than our SG brethren.
Before you bash, I’m not retarded enough to not know they have excessively high taxes to deter public from owning a car. I’m just saying there’s some psychological trickery that is going on here.
In terms of look, this car wins hand down compared to CRV. From a current CRV owner.
1st year, u thought u are driving x5, 2nd year, oh its mazda after all, 3rd year, u thought u r driving a van.. noisy engine, parts loosening, sound everywhere
CX5 sell almost Rm454k? It is too pricey for 2.0L. This Rm454k can buy luxury car like mercerdez, bmw etc. New Toyota Alphard or vellfire 2.5L more luxury and only sell Rm345k.
Thailand gets it in November, according to the only mazda showroom I trust here
It is a close fight between CRV vs CX5 for exterior and interior. Forester way behind.
On the other hand, go for Forester if performance matters as CRV & CX5 way behind.
what u said only true for off road performance…
u are comparing between new generation model and old generation model
Mazda has the chance to top the market in mid size SUV..in fact..
1) Mazda raise price and Nissan xtrail over take both cx5 and crv (due to dated) in terms of price affordability
2) now crv comes back with a vengeance with new tech of the range
Mazda now not highest tech, and not cheapest..where is the value positioning…LOL..
what a quick turn around from hottest cake cx5 to now dunno where to go in 3 years time..
cx5 gone
cx3 never in game due to price
mazda3 never in game due to price and tech (Civic hybrid!)
mazda6 sorry market not into sedan
Bermaz in trouble for sure.
i wonder mazda still running 3 years warranty and services? LOL…
Mmm, are we fooled by the title as named the CX-5 as “All-New”? This is absolutely a facelift model of previous CX-5, the engine, gearbox and even the chassis demensions are same (except the so call length is now “-5mm”.
The previous gen CX-5 owner must be the most happy one coz the launch of “new” CX-5 would not jeopardize much their old CX-5 second hand value. No surprise and impress at all with this so call “new CX-5”.
big car with Cramp rear seat. Not a family car.
Looks ok, interior ok, exterior ok.
Engine not so ok but still ok.
Skyactiv tech has been around for sometime… sound a bit old if it’s used as a marketing strong point.
Anyway end of the day, it’s the price that matters.
Only mazda can fight with honda in malaysia SUV market with the pricing and fuel efficient tech. If dont mind about the fuel and want power, can buy the Mitsubishi ASX or Subaru XV for a very ‘discounted’ price.
I like the CX5 overall design interior and exterior but I will still get the CRV due to:
1. Cheaper road tax
2. Possible cheaper tyres (18″ vs 19″)
3. Much bigger interior (Legroom, headroom and bootspace)
4. Android Auto/Apple Carplay available immediately (no need to wait)
5. Flexible armrest storage
6. Honda sensing is smoother than Mazda’s more abrupt reaction
7. Higher ground clearance
8. Improved handling
9. Better FC than the CX5 (US spec reviews)
10. Better braking distance than the CX5 (US spec reviews)
Overall, though I really like the CX5’s design a lot, the CRV is a better family car which is the purpose I’m buying a SUV in the first place.
