Ahead of its official world debut at the 2017 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in August, a leaked photo of Mitsubishi’s upcoming “small crossover MPV” has found its way online courtesy of Autonetmagz.
Mitsubishi has already provided several teaser images of the production version of the Mitsubishi XM Concept, reportedly called the Mitsubishi Expander. They depict a vehicle that retains plenty of the striking details that were present on the concept, most notably the sculpted front end.
The leaked photo gives us our first look at the model’s face, which features a two-tier lighting setup, where the upper section appears to be LED positioning/daytime running lights. Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield is present here, and isolates the main halogen reflector headlights from the LED units and lower fog lamps.
Other details that are visible include the thick slats for the grille that connects the LED units, main air intakes below the number plate holder and chrome trim pieces that outline the Dynamic Shield. Among the cues from the concept that didn’t make it into production are the front skid plates (now a full bumper with fog lamps) and the light bars on the upper grille.
Set to compete in the “Low MPV” segment in Indonesia, the Expander (should it be called that) will rub shoulders with popular nameplates like the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Honda Mobilio and Suzuki Ertiga. The Expander will be produced at Mitsubishi’s new factory in Bekasi, West Java.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
OMG , cue all the comparison, chipmunk, hamster, predator , sakit gigi ,
Malaysians are waiting for Proton Buyoe and not cars like this. But unfortunately, it is only coming 2 years time. In the meantime, company still using RM4 mil per day.
U mean Mitsu still using RM4mil a day?
It looks…weird.
I am stunned. I don’t know weather to admire or to hate it. Please help me….
No need to “weather”, just like it or hate it
It is not as ugly as our Ertiga.
U mean Suzuki Ertiga right?
I’m not a fan of fog lights bigger than headlamps design..like the Nissan Juke. But I’m sure this going to sell well if it’s price about the same as HRV..it’s gonna make Toyota CHR another headache coz Toyota always put itself expensive than others.
I don’t think it will on that price bracket. Most probably it will have a price tag similar to Honda B-RV.
Nevertheless, it is a welcome addition to our roads. At least can kacau B-RV sales.
The headlamps (at the middle, coupled with the signal lights) is bigger than the fog lights (at the bottom). The ones on the top are the DRLs. This setup challenges the usual setup we are more used to where the headlamps are at the top followed by DRLs and/or fog lights located lower.
I kinda like it and think the execution is better than Nissan’s Juke. But, in the end we have to take a look at the car in the metal before making any conclusion.
Kenari bumper foglamps
Bring it here & sell it @ rm80k. Confirm laku…
Nice! looks fierce…priced competitively, this may revive the Mitsubishi brand itself
Bring it on…another choice for Malaysian and can put some pressure on the existing player to continuously improve their offers.
Nak copy nissan juke’s face, but failed miserably and looks far worse
The headlamps are confusing……….
Wow, 80s square headlamps is making a comeback.
wait a minute..I knew it! the vehicle from Ultraman!
Concept is good, but production version is so-so.
Hyundai Kona design is much better.
This car will be manufactured in indonesia & exported to all asean, including malaysia
looks weird. like alphard&velfire weird.
This design is even machoer than the Triton which is suppose to be the machoest one since it is a pickup truck. Please do the Triton facelift quickly.
All japanese cars design are influenced by ultraman….that why it looks weird…except mazda
Mazda is influenced by the Ultraman monsters.
If it is a B segment SUV it will have to sell under RM90k here in Malaysia. Same price range as BR-V,and Sienta (which goes up to 100k). Also can kacau the Avanza, Livina and Exora. Better still, closer to Ertiga and Alza. All these vehicles have 6-7 seating arrangements, which is popular with Malaysian families.
For Malaysian market, it must come with a dark interior color for practical reasons.
The exterior styling is an either ‘like it or hate it ‘ look.
Masih menunggu All New Pajero Sport..Mana? Indonesia & Thailand dah lama bergerak atas jalan, Malaysia kawe tengok x dop pun
Slightly smaller than the Innova, any idea what’s the engine/ transmission option for Malaysia ?
One of the better looking vehicle that ever came out from Mitsubishi lately but unfortunately its competing with the likes of Avanza, Xenia, Mobilio & Ertiga meaning its a “Low MPV” segment in Indonesia .
In short, its a product for the masses(affordable section). Visually, in the looks department, its a winner, hands-down. It also mean lots of hard plastics in this section of SUV.
IMO, if this new Mitsu are slotted to compete with CHR, HRV or CX3, it will not be out of place while give these SUV a run for their $$$.
Among all mitsu models, the face of Evo X is still the best!
It already launched today in the republic. Prices start from IDR 190m-246m (RM 61k-79k). Will compete against avanza (top trim surely will compete with BRV). 5MT & 4AT available
wtf, seriously…mitsu design engineers from Mars or what?
