Toyota Malaysia has revealed the first few details of the C-HR with the launch of a registration of interest (ROI) page on its official website. The C-HR is certainly one of the most anticipated cars set to be introduced in Malaysia, competing against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3.
Starting with the mechanical bits, the Malaysian-spec C-HR will be powered by a 1.8 litre petrol engine, as stated on the ROI page. The engine is mated to a CVT automatic, but it isn’t explicitly stated if this is a hybrid or non-hybrid model – the latter being the first time we’ll see such an offering. If that is the case, the C-HR will take the HR-V head on in terms of engine capacity.
In other markets, the C-HR is offered with the 8NR-FTS 1.2 litre turbo four-cylinder as well as a 2.0 litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder. The hybrid option is similar to the Prius, and consists of a 1.8 litre VVT-i Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine, a pair of electric motors and a CVT gearbox.
On the equipment front, the C-HR will feature follow-me-home headlights, puddle lights (within the side mirrors) as well as a “full range of safety features,” the last of which includes rear cross traffic alert. There’s also a shot of the car’s interior, which appears to have a UMW Toyota head unit similar to that on the latest Innova, as well as fabric upholstery for the seats.
Customers will get to choose from six colour options, the first three being monotone offerings like White Pearl Crystal Shine, Metal Stream Metallic and Attitude Black Mica. The remaining three are two-tone options that feature a black roof – Red Mica, Radiant Green Metallic and Blue Metallic.
The C-HR will make an appearance next month at Batu Kawan Stadium, Penang, in conjunction with the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Racing Festival from August 12-13. So, among the compact crossovers offered by Toyota, Honda and Mazda, will you pick the C-HR over its rivals?
Those interested can check out the Toyota C-HR ROI page, here.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
If there price same level with CX-3, let it be with CX-3 sales figure…
Est 118k…Selling like hotcakes.
Honda HR-V at 100k already dying & now no longer can see HR-V new plat registration on the road. Meantime Mazda always price expensive to luxury segment & no discount, at the end no body buy arrogant Mazda, Mazda sales dropped 35% terribly, now 2016 made Mazda 2, 3, CX-3 parking for museum display. Toyo pls also price CH-R at 130k, so later next year could share the burden of parking lot renting cost with Mazda, parking 2017 CH-R together with the 2016/2017 Altis with Mazda.
HR-V sold here years and now SUV market slowdown already. Toyo might expect this model to be another Sienta. LOL
Save some empty lots for Proton Boyue
I hope u’re proven wrong someday.
Our GDP per Capita is one of the lowest amongst the list of countries.
According to EPF statistics, 78.3% of its contributors only earn RM1500 and below.
This is why, majority can only afford Axia, Saga, Myvi and Alza and this CHR is not withink most Malaysians reach
Young hipster graduates earn RM3000/mth can afford CHR.
Yup but still staying with parents. Free accommodation, food, etc..
Ok cun. Janji hip, janji gaya.
But the CH-R target market is not most Malaysians.
First that matters the most is the price. Make sure its equivalent with what customers paying. Not an empty weird looking Sushi that has been strip off in order to maximized your profits. But comparing it with the HRV and CX3, definitely the CX3. BTW, please revised that rim. It looks so out of this world
Buy Sushi best RV. Moving forward!
aiyo.
with this body design, you should thank Toyota. They doing you a favour by allowing you Malaysian who like to change rims like change underwear. sooner or later we gonna see TE37s all over again.
I only know ROI mean Return On Investment. Now I’ve learn a new word from this site ie ROI also mean Registration of Interest. Thanks PT.
Registration of interest for you, Return of investment for Toyota LOL
Register Of Income bro…
They want a ROI…cos they want to gauge how many units to roughly cough out of the production plant.
They have huge overhang stocks ,even after Raya, sales is pathetically slow.
So,they play safe….they dare not dream like Honda.
Anything sub rm 100k is not possible…so be prepared to pay RM 101-120k…cos UMW is the PRICE PREMIUM KING.
ROI could also meant : Ripped Out Insanely!
C-HR of coz… higher resale value mah #typicalmalaysianmindset
U only live once, drive Toyota
Congratulations UMW Toyota for not launching the killer one of the kind hybrid version here instead launch this 1.8 NA and not even the 1.2 turbo. Is it because don’t know how to service the new engines?
Gips MY pipu 1st world hybrid cars but still 3rd world mentality.
Yup quite a number of priuses speeding above 90kmh. Like wtf? Atkinson 1.8L + battery weigh down yet drive like ricer. Why buy hybrid in the first place.
It’s because tyt knows Malaysian want reliable and good resale value, others don’t care.
If UMW offers roti kosong and stick a RM120K prive tag, sure end up parking behind their stock yard. On contrary, if Honda pair the 1.5l + Hybrid in their HRV and priced below 120k. Then, CH-R should not launch at all here.
We wait Proton Boyue
No full led headlights n leather seat from photons on UMW website….
lol. When Honda just do minor facelift on HRV introducing i-DCD 1.5L Hybrid HRV, C-HR will immediately have facelift with Gazoo racing + TRD Sportivo.
While Honda is introducing the modern technologies to improve its current models, hybrid matched dual clutch transmission; Toyota is introducing new sexy model with the stone age technologies, naturally aspirated engine paired with the incapable CVT… With an relatively ugly rims. “A Disappointing Wait”
I thought CHR’s engine is based on TNGA no? And u dare to mention Honda’s hybrid which is an epic fail.
Indeed, the C-HR was developed under TNGA platform. I’ve read up a bit about the TNGA platform, but I only got a minimal clue about this new approach. Seems like we need to test drive one to really feel the evolution.
On the other hand, for your info, Honda new hybrid system (they call it Sports Hybrid) is a whole new hybrid technology, a huge step of improvement from the previous Honda IMA. The Sports Hybrid is a “full hybrid” now.
Seen a few C-HR in SG. look smaller than HR-V from the outside… Actual car doesn’t look as good as in the picture but still look unique & modern. Will outsell HRV if sell below 120k. Anything above 130k..then is difficult to beat HRV..
UMW can price CH-R abit higher. many bolehland fans love Toyota.
I have seen a few in Japan. Just look slightly smaller than HRV only. White, black, grey and red colors all looks good on this car. And the headlight absolutely stunning. Maybe Japan ones well-specced
Rear not for adult seat wan… unless adult hobbits.
Small windows make this car looks smaller. Don’t get it wrong though, it was designed as a coupe – as the name suggested. Honda NSX and Ferrari 430 don’t have big windows.
In that context.
Only rm1200/mth for reliable Jap marque, easy loan.
price price?
ROI with priceless is useless
Any idea when is the show car will coming to Ipoh.
I was prefer 1.2T.
Certainly Sir.
That’s RM 148,980 for 1.2T.
Ripped me off
Damn hope they don’t strip out the Cool looking LED’s n the better-looking rims
At last the wait is over. If it’s hybrid, will definitely replaced my Prius that is 7 years old.
good luck getting rid of ur beloved prius
Looking superb from the photos!
Toyota Malaysia will never bring in turbo or hybrid engine models because that’s the way they like to run things around here, the old fashion way.
Its moderate & balanced way of doin bisnes jz like our country, nvr old fashion way.
Otherwise, how to get more road tax revenue if everyone driving 1.2cc?
Toyota did sell hybrid cars here. Among which Prius 1.8, Prius c 1.5, Lexus ct200h, Lexus ls600h
Wow CH-R! cancel CRV order now!
diff class man…
Different class that is bound to fail. Good luck CRV and all of its current and future owners. With that price I’d rather buy Accord or Camry.
I hope that UMW Toyota will price the CHR well. I hope that they will not follow Honda and Mazda, who are currently pricing their compact SUV (which essentially a B segment car) too high of a price . Really hope that their highest spec model will not exceed RM105k.
Yes, I know this is just wishful thinking, I just hope that UMW Toyota will just sit down, learn from their past and set a good price for this CHR. Let this be the start for the company revival in Malaysia.
Toyota empire strikes back!
historically speaking, Honda have been pricing their models under Toyota’s price bracket so there’s a good chance the C-HR will be no different..sitting between the HRV and CX3
You can stop dreaming.
Cut away led rear light, cut away nice sport rims…good job UMW
Front Led headlights also no available…. without front n rear led lights, full leather seats not so attractive anymore…..
I hope they also offer 1.2 litre turbo here
Umw. Make sure sell above 130k ya. Cause the brand and looks of the car demands a higher price . Good for resale value and best put your gorgeous chr above the rest.
design n quality much much better than hrv
Once this out, the HRV will have facelifted version. Too little too late to launch this CHR. It doesn’t age well as the more i look at it the more it became ordinary and the interior size couldn’t compete against HRV too. Let’s see how it goes…
They can do 100 facelift and still won’t beat CHR’s uniqueness.
I rather pic HRVs still useful rear seats than CHRs uniqueness.
I don’t know about you. But I’ll buy it for collection and use it solely to travel to work. And I don’t give a damn about the rear seat. After all, I got small family and it’s not like I need to fetch my granny, parents or in-laws all the time. My other car will do the job just fine.
Must be a mistake here, typo, i think they mean is 2.0 NA. Haha. Or forgot to put “hybrid” word there.
Alang2 better 2.0 ehh. Can takes on CX 3, and HRV cium asap only.
CKD? CBU? Whats the differences? Pay more money for it only. Neither CKD or CBU will be pure Japan local spec to be imported to Malaysia. UMW will cut off features and make your metal thinner and tell Malaysian that they do it purposely to suit Malaysian like they said about Alphard and Vellfire. Don’t get fooled by the shit stated it is a CBU and pay extra.
According to my friend working in T, starting price is from RM162,888 onwards. With 6 airbags and speakers across the range. The 1.2T starts from RM178,688.
At that price, its DoA.
Too much hate on UMW?
@that price…i think not much ppl will buy lol..
Hahaha, speaker? Whatever, RM160k above jz a starting price if this is true, upgrade to CRV, different segment, and get the turbo premium with honda sensing, and powerful engine. And large rear legroom. Toyota official website photo shown even Led headlight and rear led light also dont hv, and small rim. Wake up UMW
With both front n rear led lights… Anything with led headlights above 100k is a No No No…
*without
Toyota RIP IF price starts from Rm162k, go for proton coming suv…
Can’t be… Too expensive, not for this segment…
Imaginary friend, perhaps?
i rather top up 10-15k for new cx5 2.5 model
or RM14xk for new cx5 2.0 model
If this car is priced from 108k to 120k, then got chance to fight with HRV, provided the specs are good. If above that, goodbye.
goodness… 1.8…. already the wrong start…. nothing outstanding or differentiate it from competitors…. just the shape.. which in practical terms… unpractical. Good luck selling this. Least CX3 has handling and quality handling and HRV has good equipment and space. CHR? … shape…. and its a toyota (which is recent times… means low spec and old tech)… how sad.
You mean 1.8L like HRV is no good. Even bigger than CHR ma..at least dont have your hand stuck under weird compartment down below at center consol. And looks much nicer
CHR has to be better to compete lo. If everything the same and less tech and accessories… harder to compete. And with CHR… other than toyota name and shape… not much else to say… interior cramped and claustrophobic. They market the rear handles to be a special feature.. but infact its a hindrance for people who are less tall. And rear visibility is not good and it doesnt drive sporty also.. so looks good but nothing else….
U sound like an insecure HRV owner.
CHR is wayyy heavier than HRV and Exora, almost 1500kg so good luck with 1.8l engine
Better UMW launch fast before people start looking for new subaru xv
New Crv looks better choice…..
dalam byk sempit…single ok laaa
errr, that rims are hideous
New car with 2010 rims. UMW oh UMW!
Sudah ketinggalan dibelakang Honda, jaga jaga 1.5 Mitsubishi mivec suv
H & T good RV so no problemo.
CHR is such a nice looking sporty car.
Next generation Camry also sporty look as well, Toyota is moving forward to cater the youngster.
Well done.
T Only failed on safety specs offered, accessories and bad pricing….
Knowledgeable youngster will not choose Toyota brand.
ROI..huhuhu…now i know new meaning for ROI…umw just wanna pancing pancing only la…when will the car be on road also they cannot give word..example like mazda, they put a statment cx5 will be out sep or oct…now umw worried prospect for chr pilih kereta lain ma…
ROI is for UMW to put the pricing maybe? Higher register for ROI, more expensive the price tag will be.. huhuhu
Looking good. It amazes me the amount of effort people take to bash Toyota. no fan of their cars but some of the comments just seems ‘unreal’ the longer you linger in Paultan
Agree. Bashers willing to do anything just to bash. The negative comments here (PT) always dominates the positive ones. If you’re trying to get a car by reading it, none of the cars posted in PT are worthy of a buy. End of the day, it is you who will judge what car that suites you.
No hybrid not interested.
With that price, might as well get Subaru XV.
produa please rebadge it, good upgrade for maibi ahbeng
Perodua don’t have 1.8L engine from Toyota and Daihatsu
A little late to the market, since all 3 crv, brv, hrv have made their debut….. n this already looks ageing,
Better change those tail lamps and rims…..
It’s best to think of the C-HR Hybrid as a Toyota Prius in drag. Both cars sit on the same platform and are powered by the same 1.8-litre petrol engine and electric motor, which send their combined power to the front wheels through an automatic gearbox. It’s a recipe that works remarkably well in the latest Prius, but the C-HR’s taller stance and heavier body do spoil things a bit.
For starters, the C-HR takes noticeably longer to get up to speed than its fuel-sipping sibling, and its petrol engine always seems to be working that bit harder.
The cheaper 1.2-litre petrol version has less power than the Hybrid but also weighs less, so is actually slightly faster.
if not 1.8L hybrid or 1.5L turbo engine and RM120K above then forget about this car. Better consider Honda crv 1.5L turbo at rm156k. Toyo always give low spec on first launch. But this is not year 2000 anymore.
Honda offered Dual tone alloy wheel and turbo engine.
Probably the best looking vehicle with proven engine record under rm200k. Most people nowadays want a reliable, economical but great looking practical sized suv to get around. CHR seem to look the part.
