FIRST LOOK: 2017 Mazda CX-5 previewed in Malaysia

Yesterday, Bermaz gave the media a preview of the new Mazda CX-5, which is expected to go on sale very soon. We’ve already provided you with a comprehensive report detailing the specifications and pricing of the new SUV, but you can also watch our quick walk-around tour above for a more visual look of the car.

Available with the same five variants as before, the new CX-5 range will start from RM134,606 for the base 2.0G 2WD GL petrol and stretch all the way to RM175,179 for the range-topping 2.2D AWD GLS diesel. There’s more kit across the board, especially on the safety front – all but the base model will be offered with i-ActivSense driver assistance systems.

Engine options are also identical to the outgoing model, but the petrol models get a higher 14:1 compression ratio and make more power than before – 162 hp and 210 Nm of torque on the 2.0 litre direct-injected SkyActiv-G mill and 192 hp and 257 Nm on the 2.5 litre version. The 173 hp/420 Nm 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel is carried over, as is the standard-fit six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission.

Want to know all that’s new with the new Mazda CX-5? Then watch as our man Hafriz Shah takes you through the ins and outs of Hiroshima’s latest CR-V rival. Let us know what you think in the comments section after the jump.

You cannot compare China car to Japanese car. One is good quality and another is low class. Campur Proton DNA, it becomes even lower class

Cannot say cx5 is good coz the engine is wayyy underpower than flat torquey at lowish RPM in exora turbo CFE

I wouldnt’t want to use word underpower for CX5. My old CX5 (155hp) was a great car and I didn’t find it underpowered at all. I am sure many current owners of CX5 will share same sentiment. The handling was great too, albeit with slight firm ride.

i really dont understand why people keep using exora to compare any class of the car. bro. this is SUV. is that the only car you can afford and things it beat any kind of car? i think Exora better than BMW

5 yrs down the road, you will see about 50 3008 on the road. That is how it will be.

Even now, you can count the number of Peugeot on the road. The car is so bad, Malaysians stay away from Peugeot

There are circular holes designated for the Bose speakers in the A pillars, but yet it’s not fitted. What’s happening!

Even if add on the leather seat option on the base spec, it will still be cheaper than the CRV base spec model

Both are good cars and have different set up. CRV is more towards comfort but CX5 has always been tuned for sporty ride. But new CRV has turbo so they have the slight advantage over CX5. I guess in the end it is up to the buyer’s preference.

Heard 2.2ltr diesel model can only operate with euro 5 diesel. Mazda’ s warranty will lapse if owners do not use euro5 diesel
