The Toyota Harrier, for the first time ever in Malaysia, will finally be purchasable through UMW Toyota Motor starting next year. Two variants of the facelifted SUV will form the line-up, starting with the 2.0T Premium at RM238,000 and 2.0T Luxury at RM259,900. Both prices are on-the-road without insurance and come with an official five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
The Harrier is powered by a new 8AR-FTS 2.0 litre turbo engine (same as the Lexus NX), producing 231 PS from 5,200 to 5,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,650 and 4,000 rpm. All that power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox. Fuel consumption is rated at 13.0 km per litre based on the Japanese JC08 cycle. Also on are performance dampers to reduce body roll and improve stability.
Local variants get plenty of kit, with available equipment including triple-projector LED headlights with sequential indicators, LED fog lamps, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with a five-spoke turbine design, Nappa leather upholstery, a height-adjustable powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof and ventilated, power-adjustable front seats with memory function.
As for safety, the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assists, including Pre-Collision System (autonomous emergency braking), active cruise control and auto high beam, come as standard along with seven airbags and Vehicle Stability Control. When in Singapore the Mazda 6 2.5 Super Luxury (A) is S$4,000 cheaper than the CX-5.
