On display at the 2018 Singapore Motor Show is the new Toyota Vios, which was just launched in the island nation last month. The B-segment sedan is practically identical to the Yaris Ativ eco car, which is sold in Thailand next to the more powerful Vios.
That means it gets the same love-it-or-hate-it front fascia with slim upper grille and headlights paired to a massive lower grille with integrated LED daytime running lights. The sleeker body and neater rear end with broader tail lights are also carried over.
Ditto the interior, which features a more modern design and a three-spoke steering wheel from the Corolla Altis. Two variants are available – the entry-level E, priced at SG$89,988 (RM269,000) including COE and the more generously equipped G, retailing at SG$95,988 (RM287,000).
Standard equipment includes halogen reflector headlights, front fog lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, an acoustic glass windscreen, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, fabric upholstery, a Toyota Telematics infotainment system and a reverse camera.
The Vios G adds projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, single-zone automatic climate control, navigation, a 60:40 split-folding rear seat and a centre rear armrest with cupholders. Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and hill-start assist.
Unlike the Yaris Ativ, which has a 1.2 litre engine to comply with Thailand’s Eco Car rules, the Vios carries over the 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i mill from before, making 105 hp at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. This powertrain – paired to a CVT with seven virtual ratios – was introduced on the Vios in 2016, and is capable of a top speed of 170 km/h and combined fuel consumption of 5.8 litres per 100 km.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I like it. Cars keeps getting better!
Very well equipped Toyota. The King is back!
What’s with Toyota nowadays? Massive grill??? What the ….???
Looks like Toyota took advantage of partnership with Mazda and took an old Mazda 2 merge with current vios design. But too bad even old Mazda 2 still look better. Ugh can’t image seeing this eyesore on the road…
Is this a designer from champion Toyota? dame this is the ugliest front bumper i ever saw..everything are look o.k, just the front bumper spoiled it all… how come?
Not sure is it just me, but the tail lamps reminds me of Cerato K3
Horrible! Ugly af! Uglier than current Vios. What the heck Toyota? And they wonder why Malaysian running towards Honda showrooms for the past few years.
wow nice dashboard design from the 80s!
Lol if you have to get a vios get the current one better. This so called new one looks older than the one it replaces. Toyota Moving Backwards indeed.
At the next CNY reunion dinner, your SG cousin can proudly proclaim his Vios is more expensive than your Merc C Class and BMW 3 Series. Let him be.
the previous generation vios, the dugong with 4 speed AT – those who had tried will attest to its performance. capable of reaching 200kmh, as to what i had experienced. of course, its super dangerous with the super light EPS steering and standard 14″ wheels. and a light body of 1,000kg. but that damn dinosaur engine is able to do that and i was shocked.
Sat in one. Maxed at 170kmh, then got outrunned by a Saga2!
Abang Saga ricer yo’ lol
More like the Vios selowpoke hogging fastlane
REAL “Not Toyota Fan” here.
The above is NOT my comment. An imposter wrote it.
how to determine whether the new car model is successful or not. very simple, just base on a comment from a person who want to buy car, at their 1st glance on the car design and features, within 20 seconds if they never have the feeling like “I m sure getting this car” this consider a failed.
His 1st comment is: “why the wheelbase is exactly same as previous gen, and the same as previously before it, and oso before that as well? Am i getting a recycled car?”
The longer wheelbase belongs to C segment.
U mean City and Almera is in Csegment? Cuz Vios supposed to compete with them. Looks like its not just underspecced and ancient platform, but overpriced for its segment as well!
Toyota has Corolla Altis at that wheelbase.
Corolla cannot go bigger because there is a bigger model there known as Avensis. This is where the Civic is. and Bluebird Sylphy.
The Avensis cannot go any bigger because there is Camry waiting there, and also Mark X among others. Honda doesnt have any model competing with Avensis thats why it can take Civic there.
Toyota is not stupid, but you are not any clever than Toyota. just so you know, john. or whoever you are camouflaging under that ID.
If Vios cant go beyond 2550mm WB, then it shud prepare to die becoz its rivals City & Almera alredi at 2600mm and its probable for both to grow longer with their respective model change.
If toyota aint stupid, then they definitely not cleverer than Honda or Nissan. No wonder their regional sales dropping like waterfall.
Dang! Rm270k Vios Joker Smile! Universe most exp car wei!
SGD1 = RM3..
That price here can get C keras with enuff to spare for a Iriz as well, bub. Definitely NOT cheap!
Dashboard stack is the worse feature; a combi of dugong vios & keli vios.
Wait a minute. If this is launched as ASEAN vios, then what becomes the new tomyam vios once keli is phased out?
Ugly.
The exterior design is yucks…
man..is it just me or the interior is full of shiny plastics? idk if its the lighting or the material quality that makes it looks like that. Got to see it in person to find out i guess.
But i think you cant really expect much on a RM270k car. (hey i dont know the malaysian prices so got to quote from the article)
Most probably Zeus will reject this car even though it is a present from Hercules living on earth
it looks like the renault fluence.
with only a miserable top speed of 170kmph, that’s an embarassment.
ouch! my eyes!
This considered as 3rd gen or 4th gen Vios?
https://paultan.org/2017/08/15/new-toyota-yaris-ativ-launched-in-thailand/ says this is based on previous generation
hahaha ugly car
This can’t be the 4th Gen car. The Vios isn’t due for a new Gen until next year.
just based on its new look i can guess City will still sell more than this…. “safety-wise” is nothing new as current City(all variant) already has it even before current face-lift…. too late Viozzzzzzz
Did anyone notice any new creative design when dealing with Toyota at this level of version car? The previous design yet is shadowing the new model and may be shadowing in future…. They should learn how they themselves generate creativity in creating Alphard, Vellfire and Fortuner..and thats how to be competitive in this industry …. just keep away from touching up here and there…and yet serving the same or almost the same menu. Think creatively.
Same recycled engine. And useless cvt transmission, can’t they use a proper auto box or heck just use back that same 4 speed super ECT “wow! Great tech there toyota” typical dinosaur Toyota, no wonder their cars are not saleable.
The signature front bumper is the ugliest part of toyota cars nowadays. Second is the dashboard from 80s.
