This just in. Pricing for the Thai-import Toyota C-HR has been confirmed, at RM145,500 before insurance. The official price is identical to the estimated price that was revealed in December last year, specifically to those who registered their interests from July 2017; this also means that the B-segment SUV will be launched soon.
At RM146k, it’s more expensive than the locally-assembled Honda HR-V (priced from RM98k to RM117k; the facelift is due soon) and CBU Mazda CX-3 at RM134k. However, it’s worth noting that the C-HR rides on Toyota’s latest C-segment TNGA platform that comes with a more sophisticated and costly double wishbone rear suspension, compared to its rivals’ torsion beam setup.
Based on the price list below, the C-HR will get halogen projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, front and rear fog lamps, 17-inch five-spoke alloys shod with 215/60 tyres, keyless entry and start, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control, black leather seats, powered driver’s side lumbar adjustment (seat adjustment is still manual), auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a 4.2-inch multi-info display and a DVD player with a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB and HDMI connectivity, a reverse camera and six speakers.
The C-HR, which is Japan’s best-selling SUV in 2017, will be offered here with the sole 2ZR-FE 1.8 litre naturally-aspirated engine with Dual VVT-i. Outputs are rated at 140 PS at 6,400 rpm and 171 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, and power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT with a seven-speed manual mode. The 1.2 litre turbo and 1.8 litre hybrid variants seem to be unlikely offerings at this point.
Safety-wise, there are seven airbags (including one for the driver’s knee), ABS with EBD and brake assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC) and Isofix rear child seat anchors, plus Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Standard colours for the C-HR include Metal Stream Metallic and Attitude Black Mica, and you can also get White Pearl CS or the two-tone Blue Metallic and Red Mica – both with a black roof – at an extra cost. Also available are the optional DVD-AVN navigation system (RM1,272), a digital video recorder (dash cam – RM636) and a luggage tray (RM275.60).

Lastime Asx cbu from jipun oso rn130+k only lor. Chr shud sell at least below rm125k than myb ok ok lar.
Toyota is jepunis premium brand
Why UMW never bring the Hybrid down? Kan our Government give very good tax rebate for EEV cars.
You see, BMW X5 40e was RM590k but with tax EEV tax rebate, the car is now RM388k
BMW 740Le is RM900k but with EEV tax rebate, the car is now RM570k
Mercedes S400h is RM900k but with EEV tax rebate, the car is now RM590k
Volvo XC90 is RM600k but with EEV tax rebate, the car is RM390k
Looks like the rich is getting richer. The cars that are affordable to the rakyat, either don’t get EEV (Like Honda Civic 1.5) or our car companies don’t want to bring it down.
Car companies should think about the rakyat. Cheaper cars for the rakyat means, we don’t have to take very long loans and suffer with huge payments.
I think they will bring in the hybrid as a CBU from Thailand since thai’s gonna assemble them anyway. Just have to lobby for incentives for CBU Hybrid rather than CKD Hybrid.
Even drbhonda bring City/Jazz hybrid but at the end the tax break put into washing machine turn into profit margin. Proof of City Hyrid only sell rm56k without tax, come to mesia become rm90k !!! Western company like bmw merz audi give real tax break 33% price cut, but what happen to eastern company like drbhonda where increase tbe price somomore…?

No ethical cheating eev tax break, tipu rakyat, cheating consumer… but maimiti how come protected under mesia rules & regulations ???
No proton, no exp cars.
Might as well get a prereg xc90 at RM320k

How can no smarttag?
The chr need a much more powerful engine and proper auto gear to match that design…a 2 liter turbo diesel with 8 speeder will give a good balance between performance and fuel efficient
Get an X1 xDrive20d
Oh no so unattractively priced. People might as well get an entry level Tiguan or CR-V, they come with more engine power. Quite disappointing, really.

If pay so much, I rather go for AP CHR with LED lights, 4WD, tebo, Toyota Sensing, kitchen sink & oven included too.
We Malaysians are waiting for the 30% car price reduction that our Government has promised us.
So, if RM146k, 30% off it will be RM100k.
Then it is reasonable. When is our Government going to honour their promise?
Go get a better paying job instead of being a freeloading parasite waiting for handouts and subsidies
Ouch! U really hurt his feeling bro!
Wait a darn minute. When reduced prices, u pulak hentam no RV. So mana mau ni?
Which world u came from that has bog standard cars RV higher than purchase price?
Screw RV, if price drop I’ll immediately get a new car and give my 320d to the missus.
If you really care about RV, you probably can’t afford it.
In Thai they sold the cheapest CHR variant not sold in boleh for RM122k. I doubt Toyota will sell CHR in boleh for RM100k
Not good enough UMWT Toyota. People are smarter now and would rather get a CKD C-Segment SUV for similar price (CRV, CX5, X-Trail) or even lower (Forester!). Your C-HR is no Mini Cooper.
I can’t help but to agree. Even entry level Mazda CX-5 with more space and luxurious interior is much better value than CH-R in that price range.
Toyota living in their own dream world. People who choose HRV are able to save 20-30k. At this price people will opt for the CRV. Poor strategic pricing by Toyota. Should have just launched the CKD pricing instead at 125k. Too bad, by end of this year Proton will roll out their Boyue (Bayu) at 79,888.
Show me how many ppl can afford a baoteng priced above RM80-90k, and I will show you the endangered species that is the Accordana.
Show me how many ppl wan to pay for a P2 priced above RM80-90k, and I will show you the endangered species that is the Nautica.
Oh wai… thats a unicorn that I cant even find to show u…
No one wants to pay 90k for a SUV that’s tiny, CBU Japan or not. Doesn’t help that Toyota Rush was better value AND it had that T badge on it.
No wonder Nautica was a massive failure.
Foresee CHR will follow same fate as older spiritual brother Nautica.
forsee Baoteng also will fail if Proton staff are always asking for special privileges.
Forsee ur statement alredi fail cuz P1 now dun gip special privileges.
Oh, if only the govt departments allowed high ranking JUSA staff to be provided with cheaper CBU japanese B-Segment SUVs instead of the more expensive ugly D-segment rebadged sedans. But too bad… NaughtyCar cannot harap govt orders langsung, unlike Pondana.
Sedan comfy.
High riding 4WD SUV is not.
Most will choose sedan instead of unicorn.
Let them die in malaysia…meanwhile honda eating a big chunk of delicious malaysian car segment.
Not Toyota fault but local distributor, UMW Toyota
Unfortunately the Proton dealers & vendors association revealed the Boyue’s price to be RM100k in their statement to the press.. Good luck selling a rebadged China-made SUV at that price..
That’s only for the 1.8T turbo model. Base model will most likely be around 85k for the 2.0 variant.
People should look at it through an objective lens. How solid is the build quality, how good is the refinement, how good is the driveability, spare parts and after sales and the overall value relative to price?
If it meets or exceeds people’s expectation then I imagine no one would really be too judgemental on its badge or origins unless you’re the traditionalist aunty/uncle type who will go for T & H regardless.
MY pipu r sheeps to T&H badge. Thats the problem.
Don’t think its a very good pricing strategy. Overpriced compared to the nearest rivals, and by quite a large margin as well. But might still sell due to the unique looks and the ride quality offered, although I don’t think the numbers will be anything near the competitors.
UMW ah,you think buyer will buy Toyota because of Toyota?. Nowdays buyer is very smart, looking for worth to buy products. How to fight with Mazda CX3, if not mistaken fully imported from Japan leh. So pathetic punya UMW..
Proton Boyue and upcoming B-segment SUV as well as facelifted HR-V will put and end to this car almost immediately.
Heck, even Renault Captur will outsell this car despite French car reputation.
i was about to agree with you until I read the frenchies part. Dream on lah, they sell worse than the koreans.
AFTA has no effect to the price?
CX-3 CBU from Nippon but cheaper. U say leh?
Most of CBU Mazdas will come in from Thailand
Noob, only mazda 2 are imported from Thailand
Rm146k for 1.8? Fuhhh. Better get mitsubishi asx 2.0 or honda crv 2.0 lor. Or mazda cx3 2.0 the most, hv sunroof sumore. Asx hv panoramic roof.
This is one of the hottest SUV around the world, but launched here with disappointed specification and price. Since this is CBU unit, we rather get a CBU unit from Japan with JDM spec instead from thailand, just like what you did for the Harrier. UMW, please wake up okay?
Hottest for a Toyota fan boys la.
no wonder cx5 and crv sales so good
There will be some on the road but not a lot due to the price. No electric seats and LED lights at that price point is a deal breaker for me. Heck take a look at the all new Myvi with its bucket load of kit.
$146k? Just add another $2k & u can get a CX-5 GLS!
$142k get ya segment leader, CRV.
Toyota Malaysia is stingy on its latest safety technologies vs. HONDA and Mazda. I guess Malaysians are not an important market for them.
Being a Toyota, having that voluptuous body and superior internals should sell it despite the price tag. Plus more people than we expect have got the money to burn.
With this rediculous pricing, toyota salesman gonna goyang kaki aplenty becoz this CHR aint gonna sell.
As usual, UMW toyota aint gonna put lots of goodies in this overpriced car, make the CHR hardest to sell….
CHR confirm kenot sell…
Mazda CX3 is even cheaper and it is CBU from Japan..
HRV no need to say… King of B-segment SUV…
Even Mazda CX-3 will not able to sell well for more info.
For that price, people can easily get the entry-level CX-5, CRV and Tiguan. Those who opt for left-field choices have the Subaru XV and Hyundai Tucson Turbo at their disposal.
Why would anyone in their right frame of mind want to opt for this overpriced junk?
Those are straight cut SUVs. Plain. CHR is a coupe. Different world.
CHR confirm kenot sell…
Even Mazda CX3 2L CBU Japan is cheaper..
Subaru XV is also cheaper, 2L AWD n with C-segment mechanical underneath
HRV needless to say, King of B-Segment SUV..
If I have that much $$ to spend, I go for Mazda CX-5..
Hear the crickets in Toyota showroom. Sam Loo ain’t gonna be popping champagne anytime soon.
The C-HR is overpriced in Malaysia; UMW has priced the B-SUV segment C-HR in C-SUV segment territory. For the price of a C-HR, you could buy a CX-5, Outlander, CR-V, X-Trail, XV, 3008, Tucson or Sportage and have change to spare.
I’m not going to bash UMW Toyota for their pricing strategy, instead, I want to share some context and a likely explanation for the high prices.
UMW is currently building their all-new, RM2 billion second factory in Bukit Raja, scheduled for completion in 2019. UMW currently owns the 50-year old Assembly Services (ASSB) factory in Shah Alam. ASSB currently assembles the Vios, Camry + Camry Hybrid, Innova, Fortuner, HiLux and Hiace. I believe it assembles the Daihatsu Gran Max as well. UMW has already mentioned that they are planning to shift all passenger car production to their new No.2 plant beginning 2019. The ASSB plant will become a commercial vehicle-only plant after that.
It is not unreasonable to speculate that UMW intentionally brought in the C-HR as a CBU model, because of their impending Bukit Raja plant plans. UMW could assemble the C-HR at ASSB, but it costs millions to install all of the equipment, and it’s not easy to transfer all of the gear and equipment to another plant mid-way through a model lifecycle. Mercedes-Benz did just that in 2004 with the W211 E-Class (from OASB in Johore to MTB in Pekan).
UMW Toyota probably knows full well that their C-HR is overpriced, and they know there’s not much they can do about it. Because it’s a CBU model, it will not qualify for excise duty credits/rebates like some CKD models with high local content.
I’m guessing and predicting… that in 2019 or 2020, UMW Toyota will launch a facelifted, locally assembled C-HR. This CKD model will be built at the Bukit Raja plant, and it will be much more reasonably priced, closer to its HR-V rival. This kind of practice is not uncommon for the smaller players like Mazda, Mitsubishi, Renault and the luxury brands (CBU first, CKD later).
But for now, UMW Toyota will have to work extra hard to justify the C-HR’s high price.
If they did that, 100% confirm their CBU customers will swear kawkaw at Toyota for instantly dropping their mythical hi RV.
It’s true, Malaysians have spoken, they don’t want cheaper car because it will kill their RV!
Kereta mahal, marah kerajaan.
Kereta murah, marah kerajaan.
Apa lagi rakyat mahu?!
Its these kind of gem that makes it all the worthwhile to scroll through the comments. Interesting info!
145k rather go for recond Mercedes Benz A200
For RM145 000 you guys can buy this :
https://www.carbase.my/search?on_sale=1&price_min=100000&price_max=150000&body_type=suv
Ehh that optional RM 275.60 luggage tray can be included ka in the loan amount? I wanna put down 1k deposit full 9 year loan. Pm me please any Toyota salesman here. My dream car since I was in QDees Kindergarten.
UMWT did it again, running Toyota to the ground …Lol..
B segment SUV with C segment cars price. lol.
Congratulations to Honda once again for being the top sales foreign brand in 2018!
Bkt Raja or not, all the promotion hype on the CH-R last year followed by the rather long wait for news of the launch, then finally its mad pricing (not to mention the use of their 2ZR-FE instead of the Dynamic Force Engines that’s co-released with the TNGA platform).
If the high pricing was really unavoidable, Toyota Malaysia could do less marketing-damage by rebadging and selling it in their Lexus showrooms.
toyota is going to face an uphill task selling this CHR.
(Like): Peugeot 3008 1.6L 165hp 240Nm RM143k
(Dislike): Toyota C-HR 1.8L 140hp 171Nm RM146k
Neither
Halogen for RM 145 000 car??? What a joke !
Toyota salesman logic… Better for night vision during raining days and cheaper to change bulbs. Lol
Rival Honda HR-V 1.8L 140hp 172Nm only cost YOU RM117k
Listing the luggage tray as optional in a 145k overpriced car is a mental insult to Malaysian buyers.
Wake up Toyota. Best selling SUV only in Japan. Here is Malaysia!
