March 2018 week 2 fuel prices – petrol up, diesel down

It’s Wednesday, and with it comes another round of fuel price adjustment. After a big drop over the CNY period, prices went up last week. Just minimal changes for the coming week.

From tomorrow, March 8, RON 95 petrol will be priced at RM2.21 per litre (up one sen from RM2.20 per litre last week), while RON 97 will go for RM2.47 per litre (unchanged from last week).

For diesel, Euro 2M will retail for RM2.17 per litre (down one sen from RM2.18 last week). As such, Euro 5 diesel, which commands a 10 sen premium over regular diesel, will be priced at RM2.27 (previously, RM2.28 per litre). These prices will be in effect until March 14, when the next set of fuel price adjustments will be announced.

This week’s fuel price announcement is the 50th since the weekly system took effect at the end of March 2017. The current price of RON 95 petrol is nine sen lower (from RM2.30 per litre) than at the start of the programme, while RON 97 is 13 sen less (from RM2.60). Diesel, meanwhile, is three sen lower than it was then (from RM2.20 per litre).

Since system started, we have had 49 times of different prices.

In the 49 times, nearly 40 times prices have gone up in Malaysia.

Ironically in that 49 times, globally, over 20 times global oil prices went down. But for us, only about 9 times it went down

  • Full tank. 55 litres X RM 0.01 = RM 0.55.

OK, not worth it to rush to fill up.

How can it be like a YOYO? Petrol UP but Diesel Down

Both petrol dan diesel come from the same Crude Oil. There is only one price for CRUDE oil

So, how Petrol can go UP but Diesel go DOWN?

    • Petrol & diesel are two.diffrent products traded in the open market, hence the different prices. Head on over to our Shell station to try our petrol v-power racing or our diesel EURO 5 today and feel the difference!

The price is not determined by the crude oil price. The price is determined by the Mean of Platts Singapore price for refined fuels. That’s why Diesel & Petrol has differing prices.

    • What a question. Come from one CRUDE oil, but two difference price. Then how come one called PETROL and one called DIESEL?
