2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class appears on oto.my – A200 Progressive Line variant priced at RM220,888

It looks like dealers can’t wait to begin collecting orders for the all-new 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, as a posting for the compact model has appeared on oto.my. There’s plenty of details being presented in the post, but barring any official word from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, we’ll have to take it all with a pinch of salt.

The variant being presented here is the A 200, which is powered by a M282 1.4 litre (more precisely 1,332 cc) turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 161 hp (163 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. Co-developed with Renault, the mill replaces the older 1.6 litre unit, and is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission 7G-DCT.

In terms of equipment, the car is said to be fitted with the Progressive Line exterior package. This is identified by a single-louvre grille at the front, which differs from the AMG Line set seen in the photos. The AMG Line kit includes a diamond grille with chrome pins, along with a sportier-looking front bumper with slats on the side intakes.

Also included are LED Multibeam headlamps, 18-inch wheels, 360-degree camera and Keyless Go. As for the interior, the listing states a 64-colour ambient lighting will be featured, along with powered front seats (with memory function and lumbar support), steering wheel with Touchpad, Burmester sound system, Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system and even twin 10.25-inch widescreen displays.

That’s quite a lot of kit, and there’s more in the safety and driver assistance department too. Among the listed items are Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parktronic, Distronic, Pre-Safe System, Brake Assist System (BAS) and CPA (Collision Prevention Assist). The Mercedes-me Connect service is also being offered, which allows for remote interface with the car.

The price for all these features? Well, the listing states the A 200 Progressive Line variant is going for RM220,888, which makes it RM12,000 more than the current A 200 AMG Line on sale now. That isn’t half bad, considering the level of equipment being touted here (once again, pinch of salt). According to the dealer, bookings are now open but the new A-Class will only be launched in June. Interested?

A200 or A250 is such a super cheap car that all car rental agencies have that car for rental in overseas.

    Here it is RM220k.

For typical malaysian, looks, brand and prestige are priorities. Bmw 1 series is among the best hatchback to drive, vs a boring and sluggish A class (current n previous gen)

Too much kit for the money they are asking unless they are following Honda Malaysia’s example to conquer the premium market. If u minus the Burmiester sound system and all the driver assists then it sounds more logical. Now if only they bump the warranty to 5 years with 5 years free service like another premium brand…

Question is have you driven both recently? Best to ask the professional car journalists to test drive them and share their results here. Can add the BMW 1 series also.

You can compare A200 with Golf GTi. They are both different level in term of power and car setup. You need to compare A200 with Golf Tsi or A250 with Golf GTi

Not interested. I wouldn’t want to have the same car as bad drivers. Kinda like the Golf drivers about 5 years+ ago.

1.4 liter without AMG specs for RM220k. That is bloody expensive!

  • All these AMG Progressive Line crap and so on should be killed off immediately. To hell with market differentiation bulls***.
If you have loads of cash to afford a brand new Mercedes A-class luxury car, buy the ultimate AMG A45 model immediately. Zero discrimination. Whats the problem?

  • The M 282 was developed by Mercedes-Benz in cooperation with Renault. It is produced at the Kölleda plant in Thuringia, Germany and in future it will also be produced in Beijing, China. Renault supplies the components of the long block engine.

This is them gathering level of intetest and acceptance of the STUPID price they set. If plenty of morons still give positive feedback and think that the price is OK, then the morons have just helped Mercedes set a floor price for A Class.

MYR weaken, they increase prices. Now MYR strengthened, no changes to pricing.

Think properly before you register your intetest in A Class with them at these ridiculous prices!
