A day that a lot of people never thought would come has arrived – the Kia Stinger has been launched in Malaysia. The rear-wheel drive halo model is now available here in two turbocharged forms: 2.0 T-GDI GT-Line for RM240k and the full-fat 3.3 V6 GT for RM310k.
Obviously this is uncharted territory for Kia. Never before has the Korean brand offered a model as ambitious, exciting and of course, as expensive as this. A budget brand, Kia no longer is. That, is certain.
The question is, is it ready to play with the big boys – is the Stinger a valid alternative to the established German upper class brigade it’s trying to gain entry to? Beyond that, would yours truly have considered the Stinger instead of the Mercedes-Benz C 300, and would Matt, as a long-time Kia owner, do the same? Find out in this episode of PT Talks.
Beyond that, we also touch on a sore subject: the lack of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) on the Stinger. Do give us your thoughts below, and thank you for watching.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Yes I would like to be seen in a Kia than a boring grey looking C and 3er.
How to spend RM310k for a Korean car? Koreans have become arrogant. Pricing their cars in the same territory as Mercedes and BMW.
Do you know you can buy a 2015 Mercedes S400L Hybrid with just 20,000 clocked on it and still remaining warranty by MBM for RM310k?
I rather buy a 2nd hand Mercedes S class anytime with that kind of money
good luck with your 2nd hand merc s400L
Good luck with the KIA
In 2 years
120K – Kia Stinger 2.0T
130K – Kia Stinger 3.3V6
2016 BMW 730Li now BMW Malaysia selling (Director use) for RM340k. Comes with 5 years warranty
How Kia want to lawan BMW?
Even now BRAND NEW 530e without GST and with 6% Corporate discount also RM300k……how to lawan?
Just choose any highway or byway…the 530i 250hp 350nm stand no chance against the 365hp510nm stinger…duhh
Rm310k for a Kia? Even Japanese cars in Malaysia, nobody will dare cross the RM150k psychological point barrier.
Even Japanese brands admits RM150k is the psychological line for Japanese cars.
Now Korean car want to cross it and jump to RM310k?
Good luck
Civic type r crosses 300k mark. Lesser power, front wheel drive, cheap interior and bad noise insulation
haha… psychological point.. there you go…
Rajoo Selvam , if your EPF money more than 1 million , mercs s400L is better choice , if your EPF money just 600k , digging own grave
Not interested whether is sexy or not even it is C400e. Mercedes is just a boring tin kosong old man car.
Bro Rajoo ,
Are you talking for yourself ?
If true do the right thing for yourself then forget even buying the old man Mercedes and boring outdated BMW too.
Mercedes S400h buy today 2nd hand RM300k
3 years later can sell for RM200k
Kia Stinger buy today RM300k, next year sell for RM150k also lucky to get.
Oh..typical mentality about resale value again and again..better go for toyota and honda laaa if that so..no need to be worry one..and u no need to worry about kia also
Bro ganni. This dude only sells toyota, so to him RV is mighty important over the the actual junk of his cars.
don’t be to negative my dear Rajoo , KIA Stinger offer more high end car than mercs or beemer can give , value for money , if think about resale value , much better simpan your money under your pillow and counting before sleeping , hahahaha
I wouldn’t want to pay 300k and be seen by ppl of me driving a Kia.
All the big hyundais and big Kias in Malaysia failed big time in the past. From Sonata to higher Hyundai modesl. Also the K5 Kia…tak laku
Very hard to lawan Merc and BMW
Do not forget that there have premium brand “Genesis” going against Benz or BMW market segment.
It is very sad that Korean cars want to price themselves to BMW and Mercedes levels.
If a Casio watch is sold for RM40k, would you buy it or would you buy the RM40k Rolex?
A Casio is a Casio. No matter what diamonds you put on it, it will never be on par with a Rolex
dude u made a very good comparison… i can’t agree more.
So japanese car cannot challenge europe car. Used ur logic, 510k buy toyota alphard is very sohai.
See. Now people start comparing kia vs mercedes and bmw. Great achievement for kia
PT themselves dun see this thou….
We do, and good for them. That’s precisely the purpose of a halo model.
No other better cars to comment and compare than those tin kosong boring mercedes and BMW models.
No every rich man wants a merc or BMW.
Some prefer Audi ,Volvo ,jaguar .
Only young people or buyets who are not rich talk about merc and BMW when the silent rich who owns Audi ,Volvo and jaguar laugh loudly on them always also look down upon them
What wrong with Kia ? It is a capable car let down by Malaysia high import and excise duties always
Voting for pakatan or BN government make no difference .pakatan talks a lot with excuses but no actions even road tolls as promise to abolish in stages still not happening or announcement yet.
The only announcement is Tabung Harapan
100 likes from me for your statement bro
Apa ko merepek setan, talk about car not politics.
In overseas Kia can sell because it is considered a cheap car. Even the guy who wash plates also can buy Kia.
But in Malaysia, at RM300k…….siapa boleh beli? Only Datuk or Tan Sri can afford. But then again, they rather go for Merc, BMW or Porsche
Now whole malaysia know how much stinger cost. Its either rm240k or 310k. No shame anymore if your ex school mate sees you in a stinger he just need to check at the tailgate either the 2.0t or the 3.3t gt…eitherway they cost more than 200k. Unlike if you drive a 3 series where your fren would then ask..so you buy the 1.5t 316 is it? Got pre reg big discount arr? Less than 150k worr
Even the K5 failed big time. Malaysians thought RM160k was too much. How RM310k?
Yup many live miserably with their 160hp accord n camry with 220nm. Only selected few who drive the optima enjoy tailgating the german on the highway with their 245hp 350nm
C300 definitely …. no brainer ! stinging price tag RM310k for V6 Kia GT … way overpriced.
Only problem is ….. C300 no more available. replaced with the less sexy C350e.
Not interested whether is sexy or not even it is C400e. Mercedes is just a boring tin kosong old man car.
Kia Stinger in USA is only $30,000.
In USA they earn $2000, Stinger only $30,000. But here,we earn RM2000,Stinger cost you RM240,000 or RM310,000..
Still not the best seller car
This is for base bare 2.0 model. Topkek 3.3 GT2 is $50,000
Randy Poe already driven and given the verdict on this car months ago.
everytime Kia or Hyundai release a new car, certain groups of people from a 3rd world country commenting as if the car is designed and made in a 3rd world country
It will takes some time to clear people perception on south korean car marque.
Brand image is very important is you decide to sell at high price. We do not care whether this car is cheapest and the best in its class. We (at least for me) will just go for a class lower for the same amount of money. Everyone will say yes, Stinger is a good car or best car but in reality, how many of us willing to spend that amount of money for Kia? Die hard fans, do not attack me. I just voice out what majority of people will think in this case.
very well said. those that can really afford RM 300k, majority of them won’t really concern about about 0-100 in less than few second(of coz not more than 7-9sec at this price), they are more to brand.
those who always said resales value not important, is either you guys money are easy come, or not from your own or die hard fans.
we are now talking about RM 300k, not RM 30k or RM 80k car.
the fact that kia even brought this model here is good enough, some fellas talk like they come from biggest market for kia..
#malaysianlivesmatter
Stinger at RM300k should comes standard with run flats & tpms, AEB, LDW, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, full LCD display cluster meters, carplay android auto…
Out of that, it does have TPMS, blind spot monitor, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A full LCD display isn’t available on the Stinger.
thanks bro
this is a perfect example of someone who doesn’t read the spec and straight away comment this car should have this & that..LOL
I see that u finally completed the Veyron. Hehe.
Ah yes. A video on that soon!
:)
Stinger will go the way of Genesis in MY.
Great discussion there.Hits all the right points.
you bising2 brand kia, same time the phone at ur hand is samsung
Can’t find a good German phone!
for me this car is the answer for the bmw 4er grancoupe, and the audi A5 sportback..so i would say those who are seeking for this type of car might be consider stinger especially gt..and i would consider one (gt range) since it looks good, lots of gadgets been offered and the premium quality still acceptable (eventhough audi and merc are better in this area)..been test driven one in Abu Dhabi and i would say its good..
but for me, my favourite sedan at the moment is the AR Giulia which still not available in Bolehland..too bad..
GT-Line at 240k? More like 140k if you can get a V40 at 180k…
The insurance industry could innovate here and provide incentives or lower premiums for cars models which come standard with active safety features.
It all boils down to what you want. And everyone want different things. A driving enthusiast may consider the Stinger (its Nurburgring development was headed by the former boss of BMW M) more than by a badge snob. The guy who wants to have the badge, can just get a CLA and be happy with himself. Is it wrong? If he enjoys it, why not? Personally, I would like to get one. But I am a bit surprised by the lack of boot space. I can live with the badge, having to service the Stinger together with other lesser models, and lack of collision prevention. It surprises me cos when Alex on Autos reviewed the US spec Stinger, he mentioned the boot was quite big. But when it came here, that was no longer the case. Perhaps US Stingers don’t have spare tyre?
Hello…. Lets get it right….. Suka hati aku la… Aku nak beli. Apa korang sibuk….. RV low…. Aku punya pasal…. Tak leh jual…. Aku punya pasal….. Duit aku… Suka hati aku la nak beli apa…. Jangan busy body bole? Takde duit beli myvi. Cakap mcm2…. Nak compare itu ini….. Beli la kalau suka…. Jgn banyak cakap.
Betui bruh… Deswai ramai member bile upgrade angkat Honda… Tak pandang pon Kia…
mat , your statement really make my day , no need to proud just can afford civic fd second hand , talk like rubbish
Geng Honda tak pandang KIA, kami yang guna KIA ketawakan kebodohan geng Honda, sebab beli tin kosong, tapi dia punya bangga macam pakai Merc. Untuk pengetahuan siapa yang tak pernah guna KIA, kami rasa bangga pakai KIA,bermula dengan FORTE produk KIA memang value for money, relialble dan tinggi RV (Real Value bukan Resale Value ya!)
Petoron satu , chill bro , no need to post your stupid statement , please be more mature when writing
I want to see a comparison between the Stinger 2.0, the new Volvo S60 and the Ranger Raptor. Those are the 3 on my shortlist. Let’s do it, Hafriz!
i think comparing a stinger with a 4×4 pickup is stretching it a little bit…
If you are looking in brand, ditch Kia. Go for German marques.
Look at the specs, technologies, And it is a luxury performance sedan. Brembo brake at all 4 corner (Stinger GT). Kia also benchmark an M6 during development. So you still expect it to be cheap? Good morning bud.
DO read review & details before write something lame. Or else u may buy brembo brake pad cover for your car.
P.s.: am a toyota & perodua owner. hahahah
When Kia just a bicycle producer
– Ewww new brand…no quality
When Kia became a car producer
– ewww how could I pay for a car to a bicycle company
When Kia launched Kia Stinger
– What the hell?? How could i be paying for a car thats trying to beat Mercedes. Decades ago happen to Toyota when they launched lexus brand
Well people, shut your effing stereotypist. If someone trying to be better at something at least they try and you not. If Kia were to listen to you, you wouldn’t see them selling cars anymore.
Same goes to Merc/BMW when they used to be newbie in automotive field, everyone need a chance. Nevermind them, all those complainers can’t afford this Kia either. Typical haters gonna hate
Great car… really really expensive price tag for a normal Malaysian. more than half the price of a double storey house in some ulu place.Majority of Malaysians stay far away from central city and towns and opt to stay 30-60 km away from their workplace due to affordability. Better car and vehicle performance is imperative for us but not at these exhorbitants price.
Looks like its a no for most of us then…
RM300K …get a used CLA45 amg,cheaper and less roadtax better performance.
All those was praising this car end of day pun takrak buy. Those diam diam rich folks can afford will not look at kia but european. Just look at sales figure from infinity and lexus.
Putting aside brand snobbishness – the problem with Infiniti & Lexus is that their cars just don’t look sexy. They just don’t get “luxury” and shock value.
Lexus has been improving a bit on exterior, and even a bit over-done now, but interior kind of sucky. Practical, but not stylish and lacks the wow factor.
Infiniti cars.. looks like bulbous blobs inside and out. Interior is freakin hideous.
car manufacturers spend a lot of money on brand building. what makes kia coming out a powerful car without strong brand building can capture the market? I’m not going to pay high road tax for the 3.3L which is a kia. i will instead get a merc or bmw. you pay high roadtax driving a merc or bmw also happy.
Kia actually built their brand in western countries. They won most reliable car for a few years (US, UK), and their vehicles won best in segments for many automotive awards. Stinger actually won best design for Red Dot award recently. Just in Malaysia the brand needs more time to build, since they started quite poorly long ago
Optima GT 2.0 Turbo is below 170k with similiar HP n Torque performance vs the Stiger 2.0 priced at Mid200k.. thats a huge gap in terms of price although Stinger does look outstanding vs the Optima GT. KIA should have positioned the the Stinger 2.0 at below 200k, possibly a 15 to 20k gap higher than the Optima GT while the 3.3 model at mid200k to lure consumers. Take note that the current price is temp. tax free but with the forthcoming SST.. the gap will even be further apart for consumers even to consider this BEAST!
next time when proton boyue launch, ppl will say,,,EWW, spending 90K for a proton???…who de fark will buy that, proton should be priced below 50K
Will like to see how much on the road, maybe rarely then Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche.
Well, the high price could be partially blamed on our insane import car excise duties… a check on the Stinger’s retail price in Australia, it’s about AUD 59,990 (about RM180k)… and they get offered up to 6 variants in total (3 variants for the 4-cylinder, and 3 variants for the V6)
It’s got very good specs and performance for it’s price range overseas (not here in Malaysia).. wish I had the money to afford one here (let me rephrase that: afford to pay the duties)
Only idiots buy KIA at 300k. Totally souless car. What they did is just plonk a big turbocharged engine into the car. Thats it. This car has no feel. The built quality is rubbish as well. Just watch the reviews on youtube.
Please please dont ever try to put German and Jap cars together in the same league as Korean cars.
Koreans cars are miles behind the Japs let alone the Germans in terms of refinement, technology and driving charecteristics.
Please KIA , take your junk back to Korea. Dont ever bring junk to Malaysia pls. Tq
Vios owner detected..
Toyota Vios is also a Japanese junk too.
Why Malaysia buyers buy this junk even to the extend of owning those Takata air bags killers ? Most buyers who buy this junk Vios are not rich and their lives are also worthless too.
Saving at the expense of safety is the mentality of this low level Malaysian buyers.
Korean cars are stronger ,beautiful and safer than most Japanese cars and even better than Japanese cars for some of their models.
Statistics showd for every korean junk car sold there will TEN Japanese j
JUNK cars sold too. Not to mention some VW models are German JUNK cars too.
How is your no resale value dsg vw? Still in workshop? Poor maserati have to always put speed dial for sam tow truck.
I think you missed a lot of reviews. Most (almost all) praised the drivability of this Stinger. Its tuned by ex BMW M boss anyway.
it’s all up to an individual if he/she likes the car and if the car suits that individual and Can afford why not?
If I wait 3 years can buy second hand for RM50k?
2.0 model is a lot of car for the money
u’d get looks, practicality , good RWD fun and driving experience
3.3 model , is abit of a stretch if you r touching 300k price point , cuz if performance is what u aim for , few others would offer more at that price point….
say….. WRX STI comes to mind…
kia stinger? how about type-r which now on promo for 270k + or a recon ford mustang instead of this korean junk
buyer’s remorse +100 after few months , those who thinking of buying one , please think deeply .
And you guys totally forgot about Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E with 306hp and AEB… for rm225k at 0% GST.
Volvo, Geely > all
I’m in a generation that look more into price perspecification than a brand so yes if this car has better spec than anything in the same price leagues, I will get this car instead.
KIA’s hired Audi’s EX head designer.
KIA’s hired BMW Msports EX head engineer.
Many of you are so uneducated when you say it is no where near the performance of a Continental.
KIA has exceeded in terms of technology.. it was necessary to be dumbdown the specs just to protect Continentals.
