FIRST LOOK: 2018 Honda HR-V RS facelift in Malaysia

The Honda HR-V facelift has made its first public appearance in Malaysia, being previewed today ahead of an official market introduction sometime during this quarter. The complete model line-up for the refreshed compact SUV hasn’t been announced, but the showcase revealed that the range-topping unit will be a RS variant.

No changes to the powertrain and running gear, and so the familiar 142 PS and 172 Nm 1.8 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine and CVT gearbox continues on. Most of the changes concern the exterior – at the front, there’s a new bumper, a revised grille, new reflector-type LED headlamps and LED fog lamps. At the back, there’s a reprofiled bumper and new LED graphics for the tail lamps.

The RS features a host of dark chrome contrast elements as well as lower body-styling bits finished in gloss black. It’s also equipped with 18-inch two-tone five-spoke wheels and will come with a Honda LaneWatch blind spot camera. The HR-V facelift also debuts a new exterior colour called Passion Red Pearl exterior colour, which will be offered across the local model range.

Aside from possible trim and upholstery revisions, the interior should continue on largely unchanged, but a touchscreen infotainment system should be part of the upgrades, given the mentioned presence of a reverse camera being standard fit across the range. Safety equipment includes six airbags on all models in the line-up, but the automaker’s City Brake Active System (CTBA) autonomous emergency braking system will not be found here.

The owners of Civic, City and Accord with those scale reflector LED headlights had complaints that they weren’t bright enough compared to standard halogen projectors. Kinda bad trade-off, if you ask me.

Japanese car salesmen will say it’s not the car problem but user problem. That’s why I went next door to Ford showroom instead.

Hey noob, ask Honda la.. why ask PT? They know only how to write review not repair cars. Whatever supercar also hv problems, so if you hv concerns, ask the car companies not write review web sites

Good point Sutte, however Honda Malaysia being quiet over CRV issue… thus consumers will have to channel question everywhere now

If it’s priced cheaper as it’s still within the tax window around 100k, then still quite worth the buy. Anything above 100k is not good value for a car of this quality and underpowered. If the Hybrid version is offered, then it’s a whole different story.

The only thing I’m interested in is….will this passion red pearl color be available for the civic? Finally a nice shade of red from Honda…not the maroon-ish color from before…Mazda’s SR Crystal is still nicer, but this is good enough. Might buy a civic when this is available.

  • Great new hair bro. Lookin’ good.
About the car, it also looks good. Still a great package at the price point. One thing that have always caught my eyes about the HRV is… It looks bigger than it is from the outside especially from the front. That’s good… Makes a grand entrance. Hopefully the inside has more updates that improve on the current version. Don’t like the strip aircon vents. Individual ones look better generally. Love the tube type leds… Futuristic. Why aren’t more makes using them? Btw, the dot pattern leds on many makes are the worse looking. It actually takes away from the looks department. Overall… great job Honda. One more thing…. The cost of both passive and active safety equipment should be exempt from taxes. Because if the local tax structure most cars are sold with reduced safety features. Can’t the MOT and other relevant ministries look into this? Maybe tax the car the same but exempt the price of the safety equipment from that tax? This will encourage makers to offer the full range of safety features even for imported cars. Safety should not be a luxury.

when you think of Honda, you know it’s a good buy regardless of any models. their models are the best selling in malaysia as everyone dreams to own one.

the drive is above continental cars as they have progressed a lot. Take the civic 1.5 turbo for example, the drive is better than BMW 3 series. it’s slotted in between the 3 series and the 5 series. The honda accord comfort and refinement is at par with BMW 7 series or Merc S class.

There are so many loyal honda drivers and they stick to the brand for life.

The only japanese car that is close to Beemer in terms of drive, handling or interior quality is Mazda. Obviously you’re a Honda fanboy who doesn’t know your stuff. Hondas are for ah bengs.
