Have you ever thought what if Tony Stark was a little more reserved in his choice of automobiles? Well, forget the Acura NSX and Audi R8 because the Hyundai Kona is what the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist would be driving should that be the case.
This is the Kona Iron Man Edition, which is making its debut in conjunction with the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. A joint project with Marvel, the special SUV will have a limited production run, with each unit being “built-to-order.”
Hyundai says the vehicle features both exterior and interior design elements that closely resemble and pay homage to the famed Iron Man suit. On the outside, custom DRLs mimic the facemask and eye shape of Stark’s helmet, while an Iron Man mask motif adorns the roof.
Elsewhere, there’s a V-shaped garnish on the bonnet, dedicated badging on the front fenders, Stark Industries decals, Iron Man-engraved headlamp internal surfaces, custom 18-inch wheels with Iron Man mask centre caps, and Iron Man engraving on the D-pillars. The body colour is a combination of exclusive Iron Man red and matte gray, with a dark chrome front grille to cap things off.
Moving inside, you’ll find Tony Stark’s signature on the dashboard along with a custom shift lever knob, unique seats and Iron Man visual graphics for the instrument panel and heads-up display.
“The first time we saw the Kona, we knew its unique, rugged design drew a compelling resemblance to the strong and iconic Iron Man suit. There is also a nice synergy between the fun and adventurous nature of the Kona and the playful yet bold character of Iron Man/Tony Stark. The outcome is a remarkable special edition that we’re sure will appeal to Marvel fans and SUV enthusiasts alike,” said Dean Evans, chief marketing officer, Hyundai Motor America.
“Seeing this car come to life is like wish fulfillment for so many of us. When you grow up reading comics, you dream of seeing that technology and those inventions become reality. We hope that everyone has just as much fun jumping into this one-of-a-kind vehicle as they would putting on the actual Iron Man suit of armor!” added Mindy Hamilton, Marvel’s SVP of Global Partnerships & Marketing.
