2018 Mazda 6 facelift previewed in M’sia – four variants

The facelifted Mazda 6 has arrived in Malaysia as a preview, ahead of its official market entrance for the country. Pricing has yet to be announced by official distributor Bermaz, though the fully-imported (CBU) model can be expected to be in the RM200k ballpark, with the outgoing 2017 model being pegged north of RM215,000 in 2.2 litre diesel sedan guise.

Hiroshima’s refreshed D-segment offering will be available in four variants, comprising a 162 hp/213 Nm 2.0 litre petrol sedan, a 192 hp/258 Nm 2.5 litre petrol in sedan and Touring (station wagon) guises as well as a 188 hp/450 Nm 2.2 litre diesel sedan. Absent here from the latest roster of Mazda 6 variants is the 250 hp/420 Nm 2.5 litre turbocharged petrol. As for transmission, a six-speed automatic is found across the board.

Changes at the front include a grille surround that now flows beneath the headlamps rather than above them as seen previously. Elsewhere, new LED daytime running lights feature revised graphics, while the front bumper now includes the slim ‘whiskers’ from the CX-5, and a new 19-inch wheel design is also featured, with 225/45R19 tyres. The base 2.0 litre gets 17-inchers shod in 225/55R17 tyres.

All variants get self-leveling, automatic LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, while tail lamps are LED across the board. As for rear foglamps, LEDs feature on the sedans, while the Touring wagon gets bulbed units. Instrumentation-wise, the 2.0 litre comes with a standard 4.6-inch TFT LCD screen in its instrument cluster, the rest of the range adding on a colour screen and a heads-up display.

Infotainment-wise, the MZD Connect system with voice command support is accessed via an eight-inch full colour touchscreen and multi-function Commander Control switchgear. The base 2.0 litre sedan gets a six-speaker audio system, while the rest get a 11-speaker Bose audio setup.

Standard kit includes a leather steering wheel, G-Vectoring Control and a reverse camera. Moving up from the 2.0 litre, the cars get paddle shifters and a 360-degree view monitor setup. All petrol models come with a Sports mode selector switch.

The entire 2018 Mazda 6 range gets six airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchor points, ABS, stability control, EBD and brake assist, traction control, emergency stop signal, hill launch assist and auto hold. The base 2.0 litre sedan omits a speed-sensing auto door lock and walk-away lock function found on the other three models.

Also standard on the 2.5 litre petrols and 2.2 litre diesel are adaptive LED headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention alert and Smart City Brake Support.

Pricing of the facelifted Mazda 6 – which comes with a five-year/100,000 km warranty as well as a three-year/60,000 km free maintenance package – has yet to be confirmed.

it’s about time Mazda must seek expertise from Panasonic/Sony/Sharp to redesign its conventional instrument cluster dashboard to full LCD/OLED screen instrument panels.

Mazda 6 was a failure before, now, with this kind of pricing, expect it to have ZERO sales.

Why should I buy a Mazda for RM220k when I can buy a Nissan Teana for RM123k? or a Honda Accord for RM135k?

Mazda 6 a failure? Misrepresenting the prices of vehicles to make a dubious point? Obvious troll is obvious. You’re always on the site spouting ignorant garbage so these comments are pretty consistent. Keep it up, and we’ll keep laughing at your stupidity.

Why they did not bring in the 2.5 turbo? It will be the perfect rival for Passat 2.0 or the Optima GT.

  • Finally the 2.0 and 2.5 gets the same front end for this second facelift as opposed the different versions for the first facelift!! (Even one of the PT journos who reported on the first facelift didn’t get what I am saying about other markets getting the same front end while our market had two different front ends.)

Anyway, bila MZD Connect nak feature Apple Carplay and Android Auto?

All markets received a choice of two front ends for the previous facelifted Mazda 6 – the old fascia for models with halogen headlights, and the updated one for those with LED headlights (the latter received new LED tail lights too). That was the case even in markets like the United States.

Now, all cars get LED headlights, so this solves the issue.

Mmmmm for some reason the first pic I zoomed in to have a look was the pic with the girl in it. If Mazda wanted to catch my eye, they were successful in it…in the wrong way lol

Bermaz is selling the facelift Mazda6 past RM200k bcoz its a CBU unit. I believe with this kind of pricing, most who can afford don’t mind buying a “smaller” German saloon like the C-class/3 series as can be seen on our roads.

With this kind of pricing, even a Passat 2 liter turbo under RM200k now looks like a bargain.

  • Sadly, Mazda radar cruise control still missing in all Mazda model in Malaysia, that expensive to add it on? Or Bermaz just want to maximize profit by cutting the spec? Not mentioning about the android auto and Apple carplay yet.

  • If not mistaken, some oversea model comes with cooling seat. We should hv it here in our hot weather, why remove? I like this car, but if price is touching 200k then I have many other option like Passat. Hmm..why can’t they price it in same range as other Japanese counterpart? :/

People who compare the 6 to the Accord and Camry, will never buy or say good things about the 6. Stats and resale value does nothing for the 6. As a 1st Gen kodo 6 gt owner, I can honestly say that the 6 is about the individual experience of making a choice with your heart more than your brain. About how the car makes you feel and how good it is despite not being the fastest, the luxurious or the most practical. I am however very disappointed that the local distributor does not understand the Mazda philosophy and feels Malaysians do not deserve the 6 turbo. I hope Mazda finds a different distributor that understands their identity better
