2020 Toyota Corolla sedan to debut this Friday in US

Looks like November 16 will see the new Toyota Corolla sedan unveiled across the globe. We already know that the 12th-generation of one of the most famous car nameplates will be unwrapped this Friday at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China – now, Toyota has released a teaser image of the sedan with an alert that says it will be revealed on Thursday.

The new 2020 Toyota Corolla’s North American reveal will happen Thursday night in Carmel, California, 7pm PST on November 15. That’s 11am late Friday morning here – perhaps it’ll be a simultaneous reveal in the US and China.

We’ve brightened up the teaser image above, and it reveals a gaping mouth look familiar from the already-released Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports wagon. However, the details differ. While the headlamps with those distinctive triple curve LED daytime running lights remain, the slim grille that bridges the lights does not house the Toyota logo, which sits above the grille on the body coloured island. Without the emblem there, the slim grille becomes visually separated from the lower grille.

Below, the bumper is also unique to the sedan. While the hatchback gets fog lamps residing at the lower edges of the “mouth”, the image above shows side air-intake style extensions to the mouth, and they house horizontal strip LED fog lamps. Also, the hatch’s prominent (and floating) chin has been straightened out here for a more conventional look – which do you prefer? Here’s how the rear end might look like.

Revealed in March in the US, the Corolla Hatchback is powered by a new 2.0 litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated engine with 168 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Physically lighter and smaller than the old 1.8L unit, the M20A-FKS comes with Toyota’s D-4S direct and port injection system as well as VVT-iE electric variable valve timing on the intake side (VVT-i for exhaust).

The engine is available with a Direct Shift-CVT (Toyota USA calls it Dynamic-Shift CVT) or a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) – we’ve detailed both new gearbox additions. The world’s most popular car is about to get greater than ever, Toyota says. Younger than ever too, if we might add.

new 2.0 litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated engine with 168 hp and 205 Nm of torque is such low powered. look at the mighty civic 1.5 turbo beating the corolla in both hp and torque. this so called new engine power is almost the same as the Mazda 2.0 skyactiv engine. for a new engine, it should do better.

1000% sure UncleMauWang will retain the old 1.8 and 2.0cc engine instead of the new DynamicKuasa, and later chg to new engine facelift or when sales slow..only ah beng kip buying old tech engine like Vios while thinking the car is new…same issue wit the new overpriced Camry and CHR..

Civic recent 1.5 Turbo engine qualifies for petrol subsidy but Toyota ancient dinosaur 1.8L doesn’t. DoA compared to Civic.

It has been like a century since a major Japanese auto marque produced an exciting hatchback albeit for the Corolla here is a 4 door.(Where is the 2 door?)I used to remember the old Mazda 323, Ford Lasers, older VW Golf, who were world killers back then. Our Proton Satria Neo could have make it the catch phrase is “could”, the concept is right but the actual product is flawed with its low roofline, no European giants could ingress/egress without being a contortionist. No other cars have since got at least my adrenalin pumping since Mazda like this Corolla except I am waiting for 2 door with Turbo chargers.

ToyoTa? Where is your 21st century design… Can’t compete with your own siblings at all. Look at Honda, Mazda and etc. Come on… It’s really unknown which direction did Toyota move. Moving Forward?

The current FL 2.0V DRL design is unispired and too dim (the 1.8 variant DRL seems brighter), while the old 2.0v DRL only looks greeat from the front, 1.8g bumper placed DRL only nice closed up…non can match the Civic DRL

Wow number 1, the face looks good!
Wow number 2, year 2020?! Why does Toyota thinks that teasing the people (especially their fans) for so long will be a good idea?!

  • As usual this car will only be in Malaysia in 2022 based on the launched of the new Camry timeline.
We will also get the existing engine of 1.8 and 2.0 instead of the new Dynamic Force engine.
Pricing definitely will be bump up by another 10% from existing model.

    “Good job” by Toyota Malaysia
