Earlier this year, McLaren announced plans to introduce an all-out, no holds barred version of the Senna track monster called the Senna GTR. While the standard version is homologated for road use, the GTR is not constrained to the same rules. Suffice to say, the Senna GTR will embody the Woking-based automaker’s latest and greatest engineering knowhow.
A fully-camouflaged prototype unit of the track muncher is seen here for the first time, courtesy of our spy photographers. At first glance, the car’s overall styling and aerodynamics don’t seem to differ much from the standard Senna, although we can expect more fine tuning and slight design changes to be made along the way. However, it’s clear that the front fenders are now vented, which is absent on the road-going model.
At the Senna’s heart is a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 engine that’s tuned to make at least 825 PS. Expect a healthy bump in torque as well, up from the current 800 Nm mark. Other upgrades should include a race-style transmission which helps improve straight line accelerations, as well as enhanced grip from using slick Pirelli tyres, lighter wheels and an uprated double wishbone suspension.
At launch, the Senna GTR will boast at least 1,000 kg of downforce (the regular Senna generates 800 kg of downforce), courtesy of wider fenders (resulting in a wider track too), a much larger front splitter, revised rear diffuser, a low rear deck for cooling and aero performance as well as an active rear wing.
What’s more, the doors’ outer skin will be “pushed in” towards the centre for better airflow, and the glass windows will be replaced with lightweight polycarbonate units instead.
Lastly, only 75 examples of this prime beast will ever be made. However, considering how quickly all 500 units of the Senna were snapped up prior to its debut, we reckon McLaren won’t have a hard time finding customers for the Senna GTR at all.
