Proton X70 SUV: fixed prices across Malaysia – no more extra surcharge for Sabah and Sarawak!

Proton X70 SUV: fixed prices across Malaysia – no more extra surcharge for Sabah and Sarawak!

This just in. Proton has revealed that prices for its newly-launched X70 SUV will be the same across the country. That is to say that the X70 in Sabah and Sarawak – where car prices are usually higher due to the extra logistic costs involve – will be priced exactly the same as those sold in Peninsular Malaysia.

To recap, the X70 is available in four variants, starting with the base Standard 2WD (RM99,800), Executive 2WD (RM109,800), Executive 4WD (RM115,800) and Premium 2WD (RM123,800) – these prices apply across the nation.

For an example, the Honda CR-V 2.0 costs RM138,308 in West Malaysia, but RM139,212 in Sabah and Sarawak. The difference isn’t huge, but that’s an extra surcharge that Proton X70 buyers do not have to foot.

By now, you are all well aware that the X70 is based on the Geely Boyue – in fact, the first units come fully imported (CBU) from China, with a CKD locally-assembled model coming next year. Read our launch story for the full details of Proton’s first ever SUV, as well as a detailed spec-by-spec breakdown of each of the four X70 variants.

The new Proton X70 will be offered with five times free labour service and financing rates as low as 2.34% per annum. Browse full specifications and equipment of the X70 on CarBase.my, and read our first drive review of the donor car, the Boyue, here.

We must thank the New Government for this kindness. The old Government would have screwed our brothers in Sabah and Sarawak with higher car prices than Semenanjung.

I am glad I voted wisely on May 9th!!!

10k more expensive than expected for the std and exec variants. This gives a chance for buyer to decide a Japanese civic or a Chinese suv. Reliability vs high rider… Not a clear winner

  • simple math…..
just charge everyone sabah and sarawak prices lol……would anyone know…?

same like charging solid colors with metallic colors, it wont matter as it is a matter of personal taste

  • Well, not so good if your estimation or budget just around RM80k for lowest spec albeit good equipment across the range. OTR will be RM100k. But uniformity price across Malaysia is really good idea. Maybe after this uniformity of road tax? Of course using Sabah and Sarawak rate which is lower than Peninsula at least up until 2000cc, maybe? Haha!

It is an announcement that should have come sooner, meaning all carmakers should really adopt this. The smart ones will know how to ensure their margins are not affected.

Let’s see if the others adopt the same policy. Satu harga, satu negara.

  • 100k for 5 seater , batter opt for 35k saga.

100k will only make sense if its a 7 seater suv

  • sell it at affordable price. let people feel the car for some times. if proven good , people will put proton on the top list.

make this as an introductory model. at friendly price. let the car circulate all over malaysia first. with that its able to build the proton brand again. if proven good ,then people will accept proton with open heart.
