FIRST LOOK: 2019 Perodua Aruz SUV – from RM73k

The new Perodua Aruz SUV has finally been launched. Just two variants are available on offer, that being the 1.5 X (RM72,900) and 1.5 AV (RM77,900). Both come with a five-years or 150,000 km warranty package and are rated five stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash safety test.

Under the bonnet, the sleek seven-seat SUV packs the familiar 2NR-VE 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol unit that develops 101 hp at 6,000 rpm and 133 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The engine features Dual VVT-i and Eco Idle (auto start-stop), which help it achieve the Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status and a combined fuel economy rating of 15.6 kilometres per litre. A four-speed automatic gearbox is standard, which routes power to the rear wheels.

As for the rest of the kit list, both variants get as standard 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, integrated SmartTAG, six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, VSC, hill start assist, hill descent control and Isofix child seat anchors on outer second-row seats.

Safety-wise, the Aruz features Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 that’s exclusive to the 1.5 AV, which includes Pre-collision Warning, Pre-collision Braking, Front Departure Alert, Pedal Misoperation Control. This adds pedestrian detection (up to 50 km/h) and increases the operational speeds of Pre-Collision Warning to 100 km/h and Pre-Collision Braking to 80 km/h (from 30 km/h in the Myvi).

Nobody believes all this anymore. This is why Perodua sales is always 4X Proton sales.

Proton can only sell 50,000 cars per annum despite strong Government orders.

Perodua sells 220,000 cars per annum without Government help

RM73 vs RM123. For a national car brand ofcourse people will go for the cheap one. Why spend RM123 for a national car which is just a Chinese rebadge? Better spend the RM123 for a Japanese brand with proven quality, reliable engine, sold in every countries worldwide and better RV.

73 vs 123? Bro, we know you dumb P2 fanboys hate Proton so much but skip the unfair comparison, please. 73k is base model price, but 123k is the full spec price of X70. it’s 73k vs 100k more or less and they are not even comparable. Myvi engine vs 1.8 turbo, of course the x70 is gonna be pricier.

Nice look even a little bit different from rush. I think it’s price is affordable for this SUV with some new tech like Myvi 2018 but it’ll become most affordable if perodua put full tech like rush or other import premium car brand coz Malaysian people’s is hilarious. The reason is they want the local car price cheaper so they can afford to buy it but their tech and quality must be like a premium car. Silly minded. But for pricing aspect, i think proton X70 is most affordable because it has full tech like a premium brand car with more cheaper price than the premium imported car that mostly price at rm200k above with full tech. so, that the progress of our carmaker. Good progress i think. but for the future, maybe local car pricing will become higher than now for their plan to make it into a global rate car’s with full tech. For some people said make it cheaper but with global quality car, it’s nonsense.

Previous Toyota rush for 3rd row headroom is better than the new one. This mean that the last row is for those below 5’6″(168cm)

No mention on the 80s technology live axle suspension. To me it seems like the Toyota Avanza got new clothes & badge.

But maybe it doesnt really matter coz moast Malaysians want a car that looks ok, can sumbat like tin sardin and cheap.

Of course can, any car also can drive up Genting, but high rev all the way up plus NO BLOODY TEMPERATURE GAUGE, high chance engine can terbakar while some old underpowered cars can climb up safely without issues eventhough a bit slow when going up.

Just buy new Innova. This seems like just interupting selling purpose in Malaysia market. To compete X70 they need to rebadge Honda. I do not think this SUV a friend on the hill with full passenger. Just passed myvi price tag 15k to 20k or alza. Come on, price just to have ‘SUV’ in your parking lot doesn’t mean you feel like real SUV at driving. ‘Sports’ utility vehicle!

My family own Avanza 1.3 Auto in 2004. Very underpower and fuel is high. Nearly 1.2 tonne. 1.5 Avanza also felt underpower. Now, Aruz is 1.3 tonne. With similar concept from Avanza. Sure underpower. Fuel is high coz always hard press on accelerator to move. At least 1.8 or tune up 1.5 to reach 120hp and 150 torque. No turbo pls, will be lag. NA is better. Old engine concept that’s repeatingly use by Toyota, Daihatsu and Perodua. Sad with its power.

remember the time P2 fanboys trolled the Exora? at least the Exora started with 125ps CPS engine and later upgraded to the 138ps CFE engine. say what you want but the Exora never feels underpowered

That’s right. In this era still uses 4AT with less than 110hp engine to push 1.3 tonne. Come on Toyota, Daihatsu and Perodua. Ask your CEO to drive with all passenger on board and see how he react. So underpower and fuel sucking fast. Very disappointed with Toyota engine now days. Even Honda manage to wipe all NA engine with Turbo or push their 1.5 engine with more HP and torque plus 7 speed CvT. 4AT Toyota? Seriously never consider our feeling.
