Following the debut of the G30 BMW 530e iPerformance, the German automaker has a long-roofed version of the plug-in hybrid model out and about, and it has been spotted by our spy photographers.
This is most likely to adopt the 2.0 litre turbo four petrol engine from the current PHEV sedan, albeit installed in this wagon body. As if to drive home the point, a ‘Hybrid Test Vehicle’ sticker can be seen affixed to the driver’s door, while the charging port flap is also fully undisguised.
In the 530e sedan, this powertrain pairs a 184 hp/320 Nm engine with a 113 hp/250 Nm electric motor for a total system output of 252 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The electric motor in this application resides within the eight-speed automatic transmission and does away with the torque converter.
For reference, the BMW 530e sedan packs a 9.2 kWh lithium-ion battery beneath the rear seats, and features a highly integrated low-temperature circuit with refrigerant cooling. Pure electric range in the sedan is 47 km with an electric mode top speed of 140 km/h, with a rate real-world hybrid range of 644 km.
The numbers eventually attainable by Touring wagon here should be close, assuming there are few, if any differences in its electric drive componentry.
The same charging protocol as the sedan can be expected in the wagon, where a full charge is possible in five hours from a domestic socket or under three hours with the 3.7 kW BMW i Wallbox. It remains to be seen if the Touring will also adopt the wireless charging pad, which completes a full charge in roughly three and a half hours.

The 530e is selling very well here. This wagon also will sell well in Europe too. But in Malaysia, buyer beware, once warranty is over, anything wrong with the battery, it cost Rm100k to replace.
Anything wrong with the electricals to the hybrid system rosak, nothing less than RM10k to RM20k to fix.
Also, once warranty is over, RV will collapse. Cause no one dare to touch the car. Once the 530e becomes 5 years, prices will be below RM80k
Strange for someone whom was egging to get cheap hybrid but turned around and talks bad about this tech. Strange indeed.
