2019 Toyota Yaris: Vios hatch coming to Malaysia soon

2019 Toyota Yaris: Vios hatch coming to Malaysia soon

Remember the bright yellow Toyota Yaris that was spotted on a transporter along NKVE last November? Well, this piece of news came straight from the horse’s mouth – UMW Toyota Motor has confirmed that the “Vios hatchback” will in fact be introduced for the Malaysian market, and it will arrive within the second quarter of the year.

The big news is that it will be locally assembled at the newly-built Assembly Services Sdn Bhd (ASSB) plant in Bukit Raja, Klang, where the Vios facelift is also made. The Yaris is currently sold in Thailand and Indonesia, and the latter market gets the 2NR 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine, which is the same unit used by the Perodua Myvi.

Fitted with DOHC and Dual VVT-i, the engine produces 107 PS and 140 Nm of torque. In Indonesia, it’s available with a five-speed manual or CVT, although it’s very likely that we’ll only get the latter. Other than that, not much else is known, save for the fact that it’s coming. There’s no mention of pricing, either.

The new ASSB plant is a 670,000 square metre factory that will be producing new passenger cars, including Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEVs). The existing factory in Shah Alam will solely be producing commercial vehicles like the Hilux. So, what do you think of the Yaris vs the Myvi and Honda Jazz?

Myvi, Vios and Yaris same engine FAMILY, but slightly different torque and rpm engines.. Which gives different means performance.

Pls help to check and validate. Thanks

    • It’s a BIG difference.

Myvi uses 2NR-VE = Iron block for cheaper production.

Toyota uses 2NR-FE = Aluminium block for lighter & better fuel economy.

Yes, same engine family but slightly different torque, HP and rpm.. Otherwise, many will buy Myvi cars, and jeopardise Toyota sales..

Wonder if this can COMPETE with the Myvi. Prices WILL definately be more EXPENSIVE than the Myvi . But same engine. And Made in Thailand, as they have better incentives for Car manufacturer.

I don’t understand why Vios hatchback?
In overall, in 1.5L hatchback market, Malaysian are very satisfy with the Myvi. It is nice looking, packed with techs, good RV, and a beautiful price tag that is friendly to freshy. Any 1.5L hatchback with price tag above Myvi, below RM 100k, suffer a lot. Jazzy is a good reference.
Why Vios hatchback? They have special strategy? Special techs? Special offer?

UMW,you should revise your strategy.it seems malaysian already dumping T for H.it is better for you to focus on forklift.hiace?we got a cheaper clone higear, changan.so just rebdged all your passenger car to P2 badges is easier.

This is probably a better hatch offerings for Malaysian. I haven’t seen much of Prius C, but this Vios hatchback might as well another huge selling point for Toyota.

this is too…damn ugly…no one is buying toyota now…that’s why we cannot be arrogant and complacent now..toyota now has nothing to sell…the most promising one is damn ch-r…and no one is buying that either…too expensive…

The yaris should be placed where the old Myvi Extreme was. That is a sporty option to the mid level hatchbacks. If it was plain and bland like the old yaris sold in malaysia, people will choose the cheaper myvi instead. Next the gazoo racing series should move to this car.

At first I disagree with its look (Vios). After sawing my nearby neighbor owning it, I change my perspective view. It looks more mature at the back, front part should do less mouth opening. Anyway, its 85-90k car. Its not cheap for 9 years straight. Just choose wisely for buying a Vios or this hatchback if arrive in Malaysia. Money Not Easy To Earn
