The all-new Mazda 3 has yet to be officially launched in Malaysia, but the fourth-generation model is already on display at the Bermaz showroom in Glenmarie. As we’ve previously reported, the C-segment car comes fully imported (CBU) from Japan, and will be offered in three variants.
The base variant is available as a hatchback or sedan, and the latter is what’s being shown here. Under the bonnet, there’s a SkyActiv-G 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 118 hp at 6,000 rpm and 153 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, with power going to the front wheels via a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for this variant starts from RM139,770 on-the-road without insurance.
Equipment-wise, the base variant comes with automatic LED projector headlamps with bulb-type daytime running lights, LED taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels, single-zone manual air-conditioning, a seven-inch TFT-LCD digital instrument cluster display, an 8.8-inch central display linked to a Mazda Connect infotainment system with eight speakers, fabric upholstery, windscreen-projected head-up display, a soft-touch dash and door cards, plus manually operated front seats.
As for driving-related features, passive cruise control is also included, along with an automatic brake hold function tied to the electronic parking brake. There’s also a Sport mode switch that increases the throttle response while adjusting the shift points of the transmission.
Unfortunately, the middle 2.0 High variant – available only as a sedan – was not seen on location, but we know it retails from RM150,059. As the variant name suggests, this one gets a 2.0 litre version of the SkyActiv-G, which serves up 162 hp at 6,000 rpm and 213 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, also with an auto gearbox. The 2.0 High improves upon the base variant by adding on keyless entry, leather upholstery, a sunroof, frameless rearview mirror and dual-zone climate control. Unlike the base variant, there’s rear air-con vents present here as well.
We also got to see the range-topping 2.0 High Plus, which is priced from RM160,059, in hatchback guise, but the variant is also available as a sedan. This particular unit is finished in Polymetal Grey, which is a colour that is unique to the hatchback, and rides on larger 18-inch wheels compared to the 16-inch units on the base and 2.0 High.
The kit list for the 2.0 High Plus further adds to what the 2.0 High already comes with by including LED projector headlamps with a ring-shaped LED DRL signature (also on the taillights) for greater visual presence. Other improvements include a 10-way powered driver seat with two-setting memory function.
You’ll also get four front parking sensors, along with a full complement of Mazda i-Activsense safety and driver assistance systems. These include Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), High Beam Control (HBC), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane Keep Assist System (LAS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Smart Brake Support (SBS) and Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), the last item being the first time Bermaz has offered the driver assistance feature on a Mazda model.
In terms of safety kit, all variants come with traction control, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBA), emergency brake assist (EBA), hill launch assist (HLA), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and seven airbags (front, side, curtain and a new addition being for the driver’s knee).
We’ll have complete specifications of every Mazda 3 variant when the model is launched on July 17, which is just a few days away. For now, do check out our gallery, deep dive and first impressions posts of the new Mazda 3, and tell us what you think of the equipment that comes with the variants on display?
2019 Mazda 3 Hatchback 2.0L High Plus
2019 Mazda 3 Sedan 1.5L
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
This is a crazy price for a small C segment car. Few years ago, can buy Honda Accord and Toyota Camry at this price.
Few more years ahead, Mazda will even overtake Mercedes and BMW prices in Malaysia
Prices need to be high because the Government need the tax money to feed the overbloated civil service of 1.6 million people
Prices need to be high because Bermaz need the profit money to feed the overbloated owner & families.
*Fixed for you.
Same majority running the show. You cannot expect much. Only Cabinet has changed. The same people run the show
The majority is owner of Bermaz? I guess the stories of cronies pulling the strings behind the government isn’t so far out after all.
Nope. Proton Persona FL & Exora 2019 cheaper by RM2K – RM6K. Thats alot for B40..
Vote UP: Love it
Vote DOWN: Hate it
Not everything.Ask mazda why so expensive. Are you going to blame the gov. again if they double up the price again few yrs later?
high taxes is not from govt?
Forgot to mention Torsion Beam
Higher price with cheaper technology. Shame on Mazda, shame on Ford, shame on Merc…
Gerard, how about the Mazda’s Stop & Go? Hope that this is a sign that the CX-5 2.5 turbo will be equipped with MRCC and the Stop & Go for us Malaysian.
Wow the base spec really kosong spec. No keyless entry, manual seats and the AC is also manual and this goes for….140k? Better off with a CX5 TBH. The High Plus spec is the one to go for but better wait for it’s price to drop by 30k when CKD kicks in. Maybe that time we could have the electric front passenger seat packaged into it.
But if it’s still 1.5L engine, 16″ ugly wheel, no proper DRL…
Not worth at all
Anyone else miss the good old days when RM140k meant a D-segment sedan?
55year of damage want to fix it in 5 year? come on, if you keep spending for 55 year can you easily make it up in 5 year?
i can somewhat justify the purchase of the highplus model…but why would anyone buy the base 1.5 its just madness
Even the 2.0 only 150hp 200nm…quite embarrassing with the fast look but not so fast performance.
Why so expensive?
This is Malaysia Baru reality, like some said.
No la Calvin. 99% rakyat MY isi petrol RM2.08/liter Ok jek, syukur la bkn hongkong..
Car price go up by 30%. Apa nak syukur? Syukur abah ko! PLAK!!
Hi Calvin, enlighten me how is this the result of Malaysia baru? I thought the increase in price is mainly due to import tax which is the same whether Malaysia baru or lama.
Other than import tax, there’s excise duties. That’s where the price increase comes from.
bermaz should have traded the sunroof with bose spakers instead ( it comes with silver painted grills)
the prettiest car in its class, with quality interior to boot….
need to drive it before commenting on the justification of the steep pricing….
but seeing how many CHR on the road these days…. i think this mazda 3 will find many buyers , thers always that group of ppl who would want something different than the masses
Only Toyota loyalists bought the CHR. Now the sales slowed down significantly after the initial batches for those loyalists. Mazda would have to bet whether it has the same bunch of loyalists to buy the 3.
I do feel like the gallery can be much more extensive. Like an angle for under the side mirrors, the glove box open etc
Just saw the new 3er in Glenmarie showroom. Admiring its futuristic, Kodo2 dominating, aggressive, aura styling that’s ever-present in the CBU metal. The car doesn’t look that great in pictures; but the 1.5 litre model that develops 118hp can do 0-100kmh in 9.2s. Booked 1 in Polymetal Grey too,
Wht r u smoking man.. 1.3tan car qith 116hp
Nahh the official figues says 0 to 100kph is 11.7s!eith top speed of 188kph..good luck
Where u get the stat of 9.2s for the 1.5L?? Official stats?
Even real test on 2.0L is around 9.5s…
i booked 3… each different color. talk only ma…
And then i sai lang the rest, booked 13
head vs heart
heart = mazda 3 hatchback high plus
head = mazda cx-5 2.2 FWD….
Too rich for my wage earning pockets. Gotta look at B segment cars for my future car.
At 161k for a c segment car still can’t even offer Bose sound system???? High plus my ass
When the price reviewed at first, everybody criticised Mazda. But I still had hope on it, hoping that it will comes with above average features with that price tag. And it all turns up to be disappointment. RM140k for a very very basic features for a C- segment. Bulb-type DRL, wow!
Mazda is a good car. They upgraded a lot and being successful but Mazda is so stupid with this pricing. Obviously, this pricing will kill even more of Mazda3 and Civic, Altis says bye bye to Mazda3
Mazda upgraded a lot… maybe the interior… maybe the Kodo…
But Corolla upgraded from torsion beam to multi link rear suspension, same goes to Civic. That is a significant upgrade done by Toyota and Honda few years back.
Now Mazda downgrade its 3 from multi link to torsion beam.
Wait a minute, am I reading this right? You can buy a brand new CX5 cheaper than the most basic spec Mazda 3?!! Have they gone mad? Time to wait for CKD i guess.
Better go for CX-5. Same price range as Mazda 3
Is that a Adidas-ish coil mats/carpets??
I guess that the engine remain the same?
Remain same or not Mazda engine will always be reliable. Proton Campro engine new or old are still the same game over engine.
The pricing reflects their bold confidence which will be a big slap once sales falls short.
was disappointed this new mazda3, I expected that it will comes with new skyactiv x engine.
Cars are getting more and more expensive…cant believe that this price range used to be for D segment cars but now looks like the C segment has taken over its spot…the D segment has encroached the 190-200k premium price…wow just wow…care to explain pakatan…simply amazing…but for the wrong reason…
Cant do anything with national debt still high. Lol
So rakyat has to suffer thanks to Pakatan missmanagement? This isn’t what we voted for….
We want skyactiv-x
I dont get this. Who advise Bermaz on the pricing. If the top version 2.0 is already 160k then how much they gonna price the mazda 6 base 2.0? 190k? And that going against the Accord and the Camry?
What they are smoking there, you think?
Interesting. I thought we would have sport version dashboard despite the price
aiyaaa..mazda3 with 1.5 engine @. malu la nak lawan altis sama civic.
why put 1.5 engine in mazda3? downgrade the brand
Well now we know whoever bought this car is one hell of a car enthusiasts. Wish i could have the money for it
good luck..
The wait is over! Now we can goto the nearest Mazda dealer to buy this truly game changing sedan. This Mazda 3 design is very futuristic, artistic interior, powerful engine, world-class build quality, modern technologies and very fun to drive. Also a lesson for Proton to upgrade their game over Perdana.
You are the least qualified people here to talk about cars.
Welcome to the D segment pricing, Mazda 3!
Jaw dropping prices
As Mazda learned making cars from Toyota,… Bermaz also learn from UMW, by being utterly Greedy.
the car looks better in real than photos, am surprise!
especially the hatch back. the sedan is slick with lots of BMW feel inside. If the price is around 100K, will get lots of market like CX5..
Previous generation M3 exterior looks better than this. Rear look like an Alfa 159
Just went to the showroom to see the actual car. After viewing for about half an hour, I have to say I am a proud owner of the current gvc version (bite the bullet and bought new during March this year). Yes the build quality is much solid, but not able to justify the price tag. and I kinda feel the current version’s design is better…is it just me? This car gonna have a hard time hitting the market just like CHR.
Yes agreed. the current M3 design looks better. and the current M3 GL 2.0 is 40k cheaper!
Cx5 2.5T rm173k is a better choice.
Where did u get the info? I am waiting for the 2.5T CX-5, IF they include MRCC with Stop & Go. Otherwise, hello CR-V!!
What? C segment? Engine 1.5 at B segmen? Price rm140k at D segment? Buy Preve turbo better!
With that price and spec. Goodluck mazda..
No Skyactiv-X/SPCI engine. Why Malaysia always been omitted from the good stuff? Toyota also still don’t offer their Dynamic Force engine.
With that prices, wish you good luck Bermaz
With proper pricing, this Mazda 3 might be the game changer for Mazda against Civic, just like CX5 against CRV. Or am I the only one who thinks this way?
And by the way, who needs sunroof in Malaysia, might as well take it out and lower the price…
haha… nothing to see here…
move on guys….
RM139k for 1.5 litre engine are you serious Bermaz???
Testing the IQ of Malaysian people, see who dumb enough to buy.
Reading the comments here, seems like plenty of those people. That is, if they are not Mazda salesmen.
In USA, u can get 2.5L with all wheel drive at around RM120k on the road
Yes but you pay 40% income tax in the US. You cannot compare cross border when FX, import tax, etc come into play. I think comparing peers within same country would be a better benchmark.
Bermaz will be having a hard time selling. Honda Malaysia is still not affected with the new mazda 3 as civic sales will continue to be breeze.
Seriously this car position is very special. C segment with D segment price but with B segment specs especially the 1.5 (1.5NA, Manual aircond, manual&fabric seat, no keyless, bulb DRL, torsion beam suspension). is much more value to add 10k for the much powerful 2.0 engine, keyless, leather, dual zone, rear aircond etc ..
Not sure why is everyone blaming bermaz for jacking up the price. It is a CBU, no longer a CKD. Unless they decide to produce Mazda 3 in Malaysia, the price will stay. Been to the showroom, the car interior is very classy with leatherette everywhere. Soft leatherette. I don’t race my car and mostly city use, hence I think it is very suitable for me. The interior is more premium than honda accord. The only thing that it is losing out from B segment is the engine and multi link torso beam.
Dude, you do know Bermaz still decide the profit margins right? The interior is still typically Mazda-crampy. No need to mention Accord because even the City feels as big as the 3 inside.
Yes crampy. But I’m only fetching myself. Hence it was of no concern to me. Like I said if you need to fetch 4 ppl all the time, then you may give more weightage to spaciousness. As to profit margin, i would say the reason for the increase in price is mainly due to the import tax. I’m not saying they did not increase their profit margin. If it was not important tax, they probably will price at 110-130k. If that is the case, will you still blame the price for being too high? I think everyone will be less upset, hence the main reason is still the decision to make it CBU rather than CKD that upset most people.
They are not serious in selling this car. They know very well the Civic rules in this category so why bother. Just slap on a price and display in their showroom and said they cover the segment already. Their major sales is the CX-5.
Wondering the performance of 1.5na
O to 100kph is 11.7s
Top speed 188kph
140k for this bs performance.. Omggg
The price points are a joke and worse it’s not even the sky activ x engine. What are they smoking?
I think this article is doing injustice to Mazda.
Mazda has been moving into another strategic direction for the last couple of years. It has been moving towards luxury (think audi, merc). This has been mentioned by many auto reviewers worldwide.
Paultan did a bad job of not explaining this despite being shown Mazda’s future roadmap.
A full and detailed article is needed.
Then Mazda has a branding problem. Even Toyota with their high end cars (think Crown) still has trouble breaking past that cheap image barrier and resort to creating Lexus subbrand but essentially using the same cars in order to break into the luxury car segment.
But Audi, Merc and BMW doesn’t have 1.5 or 2.0 NA engine in their line up right?
this is because its not mercedes benz. this website suka mercedes benz a lot.
I don’t know which retired designer from the 80’s that they managed to convince to design the interior. The aircon vents are hideous and old fashioned
Is Bermaz planning to CKD the CX 30 instead?
cuz the production line is left empty
Apparently that is the plan. But they will start with CKD CX-8 first, in addition to the CX-5.
The mass sedan market is gradually replaced by either SUVs or the luxury small sedan. Gradually you ll see cars like Accord no longer be CKD… Camry and Mazda6 are examples…
Tony Stark should’ve snapped Bermaz from the face of earth!
Mazda, owned by Berjaya Group ma..
What do you expect?
ini not even Skyactiv X already increase price.
Nanti Skyactiv X they introduce later they will increase more la, trust me
Hurry hurry go grab the current version 2.0 model with cheaper pricing compare to upcoming Mazda3 with Mazda2 1.5L engine before it sold out!
I’m driving current 3rd gen Mazda 3 with 2.0L, from new(2016) car till now I feel the car start going under power(I’m stick to ron97 all the way), I can’t imagine the upcoming Mazda 3 will feel how?
Ur car RV suddenly shot up?
Do you guys really think that the prices are all set by Bermaz, Honda, Toyota…etc? Most of them have NO CHOICE if they even want market share in Malaysia.
One thing Najib did right was slowly reducing car prices.
But now, basically you have Geely/Proton coming in to kill every single carmaker segment that is not local.
X70 is just the beginning, soon the X50, then the X30. Then all those car makers will give Malaysia the middle finger and pull out.
In the end of the day, for all those talking about value this or value that, just buy Proton. Cause that will be the most “value” and the only brand left in Malaysia. That and Perodua. lols!
I don’t buy cheap Japanese Mazda… Only poor people buy Mazda…
When is Bermaz going to start delivering CX8 ? Peeps are waiting for so long already…
Hahah who want chr 10k discount raya lolz failed pricing
Calm down. This is CBU. Previous gen CBU launched around Rm140k as well. Yes the spec is a big letdown as you’re only getting the base tin kosong 1.5 with the same amount.
Just wait for the CKD.
High profit, APM spare parts..
Don’t think there will be CKD for this since they brought in 3 variants for CBU
last version of mazda3 also import from Japan when it was first launching, that time price at 140k, Najib still was priminister, and now has changed era, the price also hike up, so is the govt increase the tax, or mazda increase,? nobody know
ec, there would have been prominent announcements and a big hoo-ha if the govt increase the tax for car. In the absence of this we can assume that the car tax has not changed so the Mazda 3’s high prices are due to Bermaz’s corporate greed.
the backseat looks uncomfortable. pity Mazda, always ignore passangers..
