JPJ issued notices to 418 motorists; operation focused on window tint offences – JPJ director Ismail

An operation held by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) last night resulted in more than 418 motorists served notices for various offences, The Star reports. A total of 956 vehicles were subject to checks during the operation at the Duke Highway Sentul Pasar toll plaza, said JPJ director for federal territories Datuk Ismail Mohd Zawawi.

The main focus of the operation was on motorists who committed window tint offences, said Ismail. A total of 42 personnel were involved in the four-hour operation which began at around 8pm last night, and 83 motorists were issued notices to attend further inspection for the tinting offences.

“On the tinting offences, we have noticed that many of these drivers are just blatantly flouting the rules. “The new rules were enforced beginning May 8 this year and we have given these motorists more than enough time to comply but many of them are just not bothered,” the JPJ director said.

The current regulations stipulate that the front windscreen and front side windows need to have a minimum visible light transmission (VLT) of 70% and 50% respectively, while the rear side windows and rear windscreen are not restricted, effectively allowing 0% VLT.

Before the amendment, the minimum VLT for rear windows and windscreen were revised to 30% VLT from November 2014, itself a reduction from 50% VLT before that. Notices were also issued during the night operation for road tax offences (196 notices issued), driving licence offences (112), non-compliant number plates (nine) and a lack of side mirrors (two).

Almost 50% of cars checked had committed a breach of the traffic laws.

Cars checked 956, motorists charge 418!!

These figures are a disgrace and only goes to show that we need more traffic police on the roads ALL THE TIME !

They also issued notices for offences including road tax offences (196), driving licence offences (112), fancy number plates (nine) and no side mirrors (two).

They seized eight vehicles during the operation, including a Toyota Estima which did not have its road tax renewed since 2017.

Now make sure that every fine is paid on time and in full.

Good work, please keep it up to ensure those of us who do the right thing on the roads are not innocent victims to those who have no concern for road rules.

    Rant over :))

JPJ obviously didn’t get the memo from Loki. The trickster is at his game again.

Given the amount of offenders from a single op by JPJ, it’s a real disgrace to the rule of law. If the offenders can’t even bother with renewing licences or road tax. What happens when they get involved in an accident? They’ll just be putting law abiding drivers into a lot of inconvenience. No wonder so many Malaysian drivers don’t give a damn when on the road. From cutting queues, not using indicators and don’t expect any courtesy on the road.

I prefer those with loud exhaust because then I know they are coming up from behind my blindspots. Unintentional safety device.

When is JPJ going to have an operation focused on commercial vehicles? This has been extremely quiet..
Why do you need to have an operations focused on tinting when there are so many other things that you are required to observe?
Let’s have some statistics on lorry and buses.

Malaysia is a “special and unique” country, where plenty of road-going vehicles are (heavily) modded and flaunting the law like nobody business. Window tinting problem is just one of the many problems. Fancy plate no. is another problem that is yet to be solved since donkey years ago.

Why? Poor enforcement, and non-commitment, lack persistence of law enforcers, or can “kawtim”… thus car owners becoming brazen and becoming bold going against the law.

It is an open secret “Nothing is illegal in Malaysia until you get caught”.

I’m surprised they are willing to announce the numbers. If I were to know these are the results I would have quit my job and jump down from the twin tower, not here talking about catching tint films offenders….. what a disgrace….
