SPYSHOTS: 2019 Perodua Axia Style gets spotted

Perodua recently began order taking for the new 2019 Axia, which will include a new Style variant that gets crossover-inspired styling in the same light as the Volkswagen CrossPolo, Hyundai i20 Active and Honda WR-V.

While the national carmaker has yet to provide official photos, we now have a very good idea of just what the variant will look like, thanks to these photos from The Ajerul.

Based on what we can see, the Style will feature black plastic cladding all around the lower edges of its body, including on the wheel arches to give it a crossover-esque look. This look is further emphasised by the front and rear “skid plates,” a 15 mm taller ride height as well as black rails on the vehicle’s roof.

SPYSHOTS: 2019 Perodua Axia Style gets spotted

The variant also comes with 15-inch five-spoke wheels, and while there are no interior shots here, we do know the variant will get unique “denim” fabric for the seats.

Beyond these cues, we also spot styling revisions that will be applied to the rest of the Axia range, with the front receiving the most changes. The new grille is reminiscent of that found on the second-generation Myvi facelift, with a black bar running across its entire width – the Style gets a unique dotted insert.

The projector headlamps appear to be carried over from before, albeit smoked (as seen here), although it isn’t known if these are specific to the Style. Some of the cues mentioned were also seen in a video ad promoting the Big Stage 2019 concert on Astro Gempak over the weekend.

At launch, the Axia line-up will include the E, G, GXtra (new), Style (new) SE and Advance, all powered by a 1KR-VE VVT-i engine with 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque. Only the base E variant gets a five-speed manual transmission, while the rest are fitted with a four-speed automatic instead.

By far the biggest update here is the addition of the Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 suite of system on the range-topping Advance, along with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) from the GXtra onwards. The model’s airbag count remains at two as before.

Estimated pricing for he new Axia is from RM24,090 to RM43,190, with the Style being around RM38,890. We’ll have complete details of the new Axia when it is officially launched but for now, what do you think of the Axia Style’s look?

Habis lah Iriz. This car and Myvi already wipe the Iriz to banruptcy.

Myvi sales alone 150,000 todate vs 700 Iriz sold for the same period

Proton sales actually already kaput. It is only Geely models like the X70 and the future X50 that is selling well

        Nobody wants Proton cars anymore.

Perodua is trully a game changing company. They know SUV is a big trend right now and they designed the Axia into a crossover. Once the Axia FL launch, the Saga FL will be game over for sure.

The reason why the Saga FL will be game over soon is because the new Saga have bad FC and low RV as well. This made people think twice before buying the Saga FL. In the end, game changing Axia is still the winner

Proton still have a lot to learn from game changing Perodua since Proton cars are not appealing at all and does not suit the customers demand. Look at the Axia FL, Perodua provide the crossover version because they know that SUV and crossover are trending right now

So they made a rugged version of the Axia but made no adjustments to the suspension to cope with the possible additional stress when it goes over crap roads and bumpy surfaces. Hmmm…..

    • Perodua offering Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 suite on their entry model, yet P1 with all their Geely Revisions, “Hello Proton”…. and that’s about it. Only on Persona and above –

P1: “can’t afford above entry level car? Sucks to be you!”

Fact: Perodua made airbags standard on mid to top tier models beginning with Myvi. In the same year P1 released their ‘Safe Car’, Savvy. Went to trouble of getting some obscure German safety certification for it (even got Godzilla to star in their commercial), but no airbags. And that’s the last we hear of that certification too. P1 had airbags as an option, up to I think the 1st gen Persona. Not even Premium like Perdana got airbags as standard.

Guess who’s gonna re-re-release their Saga/Persona with Geely’s passive safety suite in 2020? Late to the party as usual.

Talking crap. When Myvi was launched their base version did not have passenger airbags. Talking about safety, Proton had Waja with dual airbags across the board way before Myvi came out. And who first made ESC & TC standard across their car variant? Proton again. Who first gave 6 airbags? Proton again. Who pioneered in HRF safety shell in Malaysia? Proton again.

Guess who was late to the party? Myvi with its barely there 30km MAX AEB.

He said “mid to top tier”, read lah. Also, I had a first gen Waja. No airbag. Talk cock so easy, but it doesn’t change reality. Enough “HRF” lah – which is not even the correct acronym for Hot Press Forming – been talking since before Geely. It didn’t work before, it’s definitely not why people bought the X70. Luckily the Chinaman knows how to handle company properly instead of the previous morons. Hopefully can see more Geely models come through, with Tg Malim configured for rebadging, let the embarrassing past of Proton die.
