While the 2019 Mazda CX-8 range has yet to be officially launched in Malaysia, Mazda Malaysia is collecting orders for the locally-assembled seven-seater SUV. It’s been a little over a month since the order books have opened, but it appears that we may have a lead with pricing.
Over the weekend, Mazda Sungai Besi uploaded what it claims is the official price list for the CX-8 on its Facebook page, which reveals a starting price of RM179,960.40 for the entry-level 2.5G 2WD Mid. Above that is the 2.5G 2WD Mid Plus at RM185,960.40, 2.5G 2WD High at RM200,960.40, and 2.2D 4WD High at RM217,722.80. Earlier, Mazda Malaysia said the CX-8 would cost 15% to 20% more than the CX-5, so the prices here seem about right.
Update: Bermaz Motor has officially launched the CX-8 CKD.
Included in the price list are add-ons such as window tinting (RM2,000), illuminated sill plates (RM400), optional leather seat upholstery for the Mid and Mid Plus variants (RM4,500), as well as a RM3,000 option for premium metallic colours such as Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, and Snowflake Pearl White. Bundled with the price is a five-year or 100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty with five-years free maintenance.
To recap, the three-row SUV is positioned between the CX-5 and CX-9, and is powered by two engines. The 2.5 litre models all share the same naturally-aspirated 2.5 litre four-cylinder SkyActiv-G engine (no 2.5L Turbo mills here, unfortunately), producing 192 hp at 6,000 rpm and 258 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
The range-topping 2.2L AWD is the only model with a turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive system. Power comes from the familiar 2.2 litre SkyActiv-D engine making 188 hp at 4,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. In Japan, the CX-8 can be had with the 2.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine, which outputs 228 hp and 420 Nm of torque. A six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic is standard across the board.
For equipment, all variants get auto-levelling LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (only the base model gets bulb-type DRLs), LED tail lights, keyless entry, powered tailgate, and 19-inch alloys wrapped with 225/55 profile tyres.
Inside, there’s push-start button, seven-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, three-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and electronic parking brake. Only the most expensive pair benefits from a 360-degree surround view camera and windshield-projected colour heads-up display.
All CX-8 models get six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Hill Launch Assist, Emergency Stop Signal, seat belts with pretensions, and Isofix child anchors. The CX-8 was also awarded five stars in the ANCAP crash safety test.
Mazda’s i-ActivSense safety systems are available too – models from the 2.5L 2WD Mid Plus get Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert as standard, but only the top two models get Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, and Smart City Brake Support (AEB for front and rear; 2.5L 2WD Mid Plus gets front SCBS only). Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC, active cruise control) is not available. So, what do you think of this?

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for Bermaz to put MRCC in their cars when they want to charge premium prices.
We’re not even asking for actual premium features like Bose speakers, Nappa leather or ventilated seats.
You can get 2unit X70 with ADAS for same ringgit amt of one CX8… Mrcc overpriced, overhyped.
ADAS – 30km/h to 150km/h.
Toyota DRCC/ Mazda MRCC = full speed, auto Stop & Go.
People want to use it for boring 1hour daily traffic jam drive.
Those higher segment SUV, Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe & Kia Sorento alredi lower priced btw Rm160-180k… this mazda harga xlaku.
pay so much money but still without MRCC. what a bummer
good pricing. definitely a challenge to santa fe & sorento.
Alamak..
Just extend the length for extra 2 seats.
CX-5 RM 133k naik harga to RM 180k.
overpriced for without MRCC too. Extended length but 2nd Row do not gain proper legroom, see below picture:

Expensive and service is not good. Better buy X70
Good specification but I’ll consider the CX-8 if it includes Radad Cruise Control, paddle shift and Bose sound system. Australian model comes with MRCC and Bose sound system
Just wow at the price. Mazda not gonna move a lot of units for this model
Bermaz gave up selling Mazda dy. That’s what happens when you let an ahpek run the business.
At this price, it doesn’t even come with radar cruise control. Just disappointing, completely unacceptable.
If u talk about specs n price no need to talk already just buy x70. And yet u all complain too much but still dont buy x70. Why???
Just want to do a survey, thumbs up for 7 seater configuration, thumbs down for 6 seater configuration
actually Bermaz don’t care about laku or not for this CX8, they are aiming huge margin profit CX5 instead because Malaysia market is too small like potato….
Mazda i stop is terrible. It jerks like a lorry. And the A pillar design is not good. Blocks a lot of your view .
