Lexus will be unveiling its first fully-electric model at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition on November 22. The location of its unveiling has likely been chosen as the luxury brand’s first pure EV has been “specifically crafted to suit the needs of audiences in China and Europe,” Lexus said.
At this point, the luxury marque has not revealed specific details on its upcoming model. A report in August said that Lexus will be starting its pure EV line-up with a hatchback that will draw styling cues from the LF-SA concept of 2015, and the range is reportedly set to grow to three EVs by 2021.
Though a much more recent showing from Lexus on the EV front is the LF-30 Electrified Concept which was on display at the recent 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, that is a much more aggressively styled concept with gullwing doors which are less likely to make it to production.
Lexus did, however reveal the specifications of the LF-30 concept at the show; this weighs 2,400 kg and measures 5,090 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm, and features four electric motors, one integrated into each wheel.
These combine for a total output of 536 hp and 700 Nm of torque, offering a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. The 110 kWh battery pack can be recharged wirelessly, and offers a WLTP-certified range of 500 km.
“We expect (a setup of) four wheels operating independently will offer greater agility, stability and excitement. We will continue to pursue this exciting opportunity,” vice president Koji Sato told Autocar in an earlier report. While this sounds like a four-motor setup, it remains to be seen if this will be employed for the production EV that is due to debut this month.
