2020 Perodua Bezza facelift launched in Malaysia – ASA 2.0, LED headlamps, 4 variants, from RM34,580

After a short teaser period, the 2020 Perodua Bezza facelift is now officially launched. This comes just five days after order books were open, and three and a half years since the sedan first hit the Malaysian market. In that time, the Bezza has become a firm favourite in the entry level with 184,000 units sold, and if you’re living in urban areas, a popular workhorse for ride hailing drivers.

Let’s start with the obvious changes. The Bezza wears a significantly bolder look, thanks to a combination of an aggressive new bumper with sharp faux vent cutouts holding the fog lamps (no fog lamps for 1.0L), slimmer headlamps that are now LEDs (standard across the range), and a grille that’s now horizontal (chrome trim for 1.3L, silver for 1.0L). No LED daytime running lights, but the optional GearUp bodykit adds LED position lights at the lower edge of the bumper.

At the rear, the most obvious cue are the sharp cutouts on the bumpers that mirror those on the front. The Bezza’s rear underside was rather exposed in its original form, and that issue was somewhat addressed by a redesigned rear bumper (with a deeper skirt) less than a year in. Now, the tonggek look has been put to rest, for good. The rear bumper has also been extended slightly for better aerodynamics.

2020 Perodua Bezza facelift launched in Malaysia – ASA 2.0, LED headlamps, 4 variants, from RM34,580

The pre-facelift’s chrome strip bridging the tail lamps is now in two-tone – chrome over gloss black. The side skirts, which are standard across the board, are also in two-tone, black and body colour. The AV gets electric retractable side mirrors, while the rest get power-adjustable mirrors with turn signals. This means that for the 1.0L, there are no more signal lamps on the fenders, but the B pillars are body coloured instead of blacked out.

As for wheels, it’s 14-inch items for the 1.0L and 15-inch two-tone alloys for the 1.3L variants. There are also two new paint options called Garnet Red (1.3L only, as seen here) and Granite Grey to join four other colours – Sugar Brown, Ocean Blue, Glittering Silver and Ivory White (solid).

Inside, the dashboard architecture hasn’t changed, but P2 revised the full width trim’s design for an obvious new look without having to redesign the whole thing. Previously just a plain black bar in the AV, there’s now a silver upturned cradle for the head unit, which is a 2-DIN touchscreen unit for the AV (with reverse camera). The new trim also sees some surfacing around the side air con vents.

2020 Perodua Bezza facelift launched in Malaysia – ASA 2.0, LED headlamps, 4 variants, from RM34,580

The Bezza’s meter panel has been redesigned. Gone are the two red “ears” cupping the dials, which themselves have new faces. The illumination is white.

Kit wise, two items stand out. One is the above-mentioned LED headlamps, which are standard across the board. This sets the Bezza FL apart from the Axia, and also its chief entry sedan rival.

The other big ticket item is Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 suite of driver assist systems, which includes Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 km/h), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 km/h), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control. First seen on the current Myvi and then the Aruz (in 2.0 form), ASA was most recently included in the Axia facelift that debut in September 2019. The Axia is the most affordable car in Malaysia with AEB and the Bezza is the most affordable sedan to be such equipped.

ASA 2.0 is for the top AV only, but all 1.3L variants get Vehicle Stability Control (VSC, previously AV only) and ABS/EBD is standard across the board. All variants get dual front airbags. With its driver assist pack, the Bezza AV is ASEAN NCAP five-star rated.

Other equipment highlights include keyless entry with push start (1.3L only), front corner sensors (1.3L only, reverse sensors standard for all) and a reverse camera (AV only). The range topping variant also gets leather seats with suede inserts.

Lastly, there’s no change in the powertrain department, which has a 67 hp/91 Nm 1.0L three-cylinder VVT-i engine and a 94 hp/121 Nm 1.3L four-pot. The latter NR engine comes with Dual VVT-i and Eco Idle auto start-stop, which helps fuel efficiency go as high as a claimed 22 km/l – a strong point for the Bezza. The 1.0L can be had with a five-speed manual or four-speed auto, while the 1.3L is auto-only.

Minor but potentially significant changes not listed in brochure include improvements to the suspension for better handling and stability, as well the rear seat angle, which goes from 23 to 27 degrees.

The 2020 Perodua Bezza facelift is priced from RM34,580 for the 1.0L G Manual and RM36,580 for the 1.0L G Auto. The 1.3L models are auto-only – the 1.3L X is yours for RM43,980 while the AV sells for RM49,980. All prices are OTR without insurance. It’s a slight increase over the pre-facelift prices, but kit count has increased as well. The warranty is for five years or 150,000 km. There’s a full range of GearUp accessories as well, and we detail them here.

By the way, the pre-facelift range consists of the 1.0L GXtra MT at RM34,490, the 1.0L GXtra AT at RM36,290, the 1.3L Premium X MT at RM40,090, the 1.3L Premium X AT at RM41,890 and the AV at RM47,790. That means that the new line-up has one less variant – four vs five – and the 1.3L MT has been dropped.

“We are confident the bolder and smarter 2020 Perodua Bezza will continue to carry the torch – our aim is to sell 4,000 units monthly on average,” said Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, president and CEO of Perodua. So, what do you think of the refreshed Bezza next to the Proton Saga, which was revamped last year? Full specs and comparisons at CarBase.my.

Easy because not everyone will buy Perodua marketing talk and what you copy pasted here is exactly that. Everyone knows that Perodua cars are rebadged or reskinned. No need to hide it. Perodua only skill is marketing but those who have brains can see thru their spiel just like many found it incredulous of Perodua’s claimed FC rating of 20km/L.

Finish Honda Malaysia, Saga will steal sales from upcoming City Turbo without AEB, land departure warning and blind spot monitor. Salesman will start crying. So called as “Power of Nightmare Cars”

As majority in Malaysia fed up of driving honda cars because too many quality issues on newer Honda models after bought for less than 1 year. When go to aftersales service, people also complaining most of the aftersales service dealer. Cannot solve. Shows that technicians are having half past six, lying, didn’t repair at all, never repair other peoples car at all.

Yet, some of them are still buying Honda cars with brainless. Also, come here hating kimchi cars with low resale value and hating mazda. Just look at safety specs, most of Honda models are really kosong spec. Compare to Mazda, Toyota and Hyundai Ioniq comes with blind spot monitor, AEB, land departure warning and others. No wonder, many mazda CX-5 and Proton X70 everywhere than looking Honda CRV is now rare.

Malaysians rather buy mazda. This comes with 5 years warranty as Honda. Bermaz service is better and they already improved their service than honda. Even CKD Mazda CX-5 looks so so but better than most Honda models. So Honda Malaysia is dead.

Not just hogging the right lane but parking in front of other people’s houses. This is admitted by perodua owners here when they go for kenduris. Perodua teaches their customers to be so selfish and inconsiderate. With such company promoting bad values to their customers, its better to close perodua down for good.

The Bezza is the first Perodua model that isn’t directly based on any pre-existing Toyota or Daihatsu model. Perodua lead the styling and development of the Bezza’s upper body structure, with technical support from Daihatsu.[6] Perodua claims that the Bezza has up to 95% local content, and was developed at a cost of RM 300 million. However, Perodua did not develop the Bezza from scratch, as it is powered by Toyota-engineered engines and is based on the Daihatsu-engineered Axia platform.

All LED reflector type headlights? Wow this car is seriously unsafe to drive in the rain. And you know what other weather does Malaysia have when it is not hot? Yes, rain. So this car is seriously unsafe and unsuited for Malaysia use. Better send them out of Malaysia or scrap them.

Ahh, but this does tie in with Perodua’s track record of producing unsafe cars so this must be yet another ‘feature’ that makes Bezza facelift continue their hallmark of producing unsafe cars.

Like all people, I appreciate latest techs but it must benefit the drivers and occupants. Latest perodua tech like soft milotin bodies, headlamps that cannot see in rain, detachable axles, airbags that kills, & bad ergonomics is not beneficial but harmful. This kind of latest tech must be discarded along with the car.

Nobody disputes that nuclear technology is a technological advancement and an engineering marvel but is it moving in the right direction? Many experts says no, and many nuclear proponents are moving away from it. Perodua cars are just like nuclear technology. An advancement that will explode in your face.

Nobody here is complaining about halogen lights. The fact that many branded spotlights are still using high-powered halogen lights clearly tell us that halogens are still valid. What many here are pointing out is the wrong usage of LEDs as head lights. It should be used in projectors like you see on X70 and many other expensive cars. That would ensure the light beam is focused on the road and not on oncoming drivers. Only cheap cars are using LEDs with reflectors and that tells me Bezza is designed to be a cheap car with not-so-cheap pricing. Better then don’t use reflector LEDs as you will be a hazard on the road.

Saga FL got 26,000 and 41,000 waiting that is 67,000 just for 4 months. OTOH Bezza 5 years sales only did 184,000 if Proton continues on their rocketing trajectory, it would do 100,000 in just one year alone and in 2 years it would easily overtake Bezza entire 5 years sold. Yes, sales number proven Saga will still remain the King.

          • I looked up on Wikipedia about both cars, and nowhere it mentions that either cars are related to each other. The bezza is more or less a sedan version of the Axia. It’s not related to the Etios..

            from wiki:
The Bezza is the first Perodua model that isn’t directly based on any pre-existing Toyota or Daihatsu model. Perodua lead the styling and development of the Bezza’s upper body structure, with technical support from Daihatsu.[6] Perodua claims that the Bezza has up to 95% local content, and was developed at a cost of RM 300 million. However, Perodua did not develop the Bezza from scratch, as it is powered by Toyota-engineered engines and is based on the Daihatsu-engineered Axia platform.

The reason is simple. That’s because Perodua need to maximise profits sent back to Japan. As a vassal of Toyota and to mitigate their local market slumping sales, Perodua is forced to maximise all profits to send back. So Perodua is actually shortchanging the customers, and its easy to see why Proton sales are increasing tremendously. Many prospective customers realised Perodua is scamming the rakyat.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 7
    • Engineer on Jan 08, 2020 at 5:22 pm

Why they could even compare? It’s simply because Proton have managed to reduce cost of ownership for a Persona down to Bezza levels and what’s not to like? With Persona, you will get a bigger, better, more kitted, and safer car for the same money. Who doesn’t like more value, and Proton is giving value so why shouldn’t Proton fanboys be happy? They should be ecstatic that Proton is trumping Perodua!

No la. Because the top spec Bezza costs close to 50k. Mid-spec Persona costs close to 50k as well. Normal citizens don’t have unlimited amount of money to be dispensed and if two goods or services carries similar price tag, it makes absolute sense to compare them two. Fanboys, on the other hand, are desperate to score some wins (regardless of which side).

I am more interested in that suspension tuning and other fundamental changes that were done for this Bezza tho. Things like suspension, NVH, responsiveness, etc. Still, it’s a P2 car so..

Would prefer if they’d drop the LED headlights for a conventional reflectors for any variant other than the AV (and thus, dropping the price for less than AV variants instead). I’d say, I’d rather have reverse cam + touch screen for X variant, honestly. Paying 49k to get reverse cam built-in? Better buy X and retrofit outside shop lah. Or rather buy a Persona Exec at that price. ASA is… overpriced imo.

Price them similar to the Saga lah, then we’d have a much better choice of better to drive protons but with less gadgets, or more gadgets but more basic driving.

Heck, if Proton decided to release 1.6L Saga at 46~48k + keyless entry, auto-power windows, auto-lock, etc, it’ll be a much more interesting car (possibly cannibalizing Persona’s sales lol)

Bezza auto transmission is not CVT, majority car regardless brand fitted with CVT gearbox have problems in recent time. CVT gearbox life span will definitely cut short if driver always driving harshly.

Do you ever hear sudden jerking, disconcerting whirring or clunking CVT noise?

“Tik…Tik… PING!” Oh No, CVT belt broken and car gradually slow down. Stop at sideway and wait for car to tow away. gearbox such as rod, Journal worn-out, bearing and retainer gone! CVT gear box component almost gone!

This is to remind you that if you intend to buy second-hand car, CVT belt must change and service regardless how many mileages.

4AT, 5AT, 6AT, 7AT are more durable than CVT but only spend a bit more petrol.

Those comment that SAGA is better than Bezza.

SAGA still using old-school timing rubber belt. rubber belt life span is somehow around 60,000km, if you always stuck in traffic jam, 40,000km already considerably end of life spam, SAGA driver in Klang got complaint that timing belt broken at 55000km causing whole his car engine broken.

SAGA got improved its outlook moving to more contemporary than Bezza but out-dated greasy rack and pinion steering that required to flush and refill oily fluid internally.
Dragon country not able to spend more $ for upgrade to minimise loss for surviving.

Korang tahulah Zaman M, he just uses Proton as Cashcow for his empire and investment, bow down to Japan brand and torture every rakyat. Some said he got incentive and commission in 90’s to purchase Mitsubishi phase-out mould and 80’s machine to make WIRA. At that time, Mitsubishi company treat out-dated mould and machine as rubbish, but he used that mould and machine to make WIRA and force Rakyat Malaysia to buy Proton car.

At that time, New Generation Lancer already down to road very long in every part of world.
