The current Toyota Harrier may still be fairly new to the Malaysian market (unless you count the myriad of grey imports that existed before UMW Toyota Motor’s offering), but the truth is third-generation SUV has been around since 2013 and in need of a replacement.
Well, it looks like the fourth-gen model is coming soon, and a promotional video has just surfaced on social media. It shows a car that draws much of its profile a fair bit of inspiration from the outgoing model, but with a couple of touches of its own.
The characteristic blanked-off upper grille and slim headlights remain, but the latter now sport new LED daytime running lights with dual branches, much like the latest Avalon sedan. The lower grille is also much larger, reaching towards the upper grille and only separated by a full-width chrome strip.
Along the side, the shoulder line sweeps upwards between the strong front and rear haunches, while the D-pillars have been made slightly narrower. But it’s the rear that’s the biggest departure – the full-width tail lights have been reduced to slits which, together with what appears to be a reverse-rake tail, gives the car more than a hint of the Jaguar F-Pace about it.
According to Japanese automotive portal Best Car, the new Harrier, set to make its debut on June 17, will ride on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that underpins most of Toyota’s latest models – specifically the K variant (GA-K) that the Camry, RAV4 and aforementioned Avalon are also based on. It will reportedly be significantly larger than before, in part to accommodate an optional third row of seats.
New features include an electrochromic sunroof that can be dimmed (eliminating the need for blinds) as well as a dash cam integrated in the rear-view mirror. As for powertrains, expect the Harrier to come with an M20A 2.0 litre direct-injected Dynamic Force engine that makes 172 PS and 203 Nm of torque in the RAV4.
There will also likely be a hybrid model that pairs a 2.5 litre version of that engine to a pair of electric motors, delivering a total of 211 PS in the Camry Hybrid. The 8AR-FTS 2.0 litre turbo mill, introduced in the facelifted third-get model (which we get), will apparently be dropped.

Looks nice!
But impractical shape for an SUV.
Nope. I disagreed! Tbh, this suv shape looks nice and more practical too!
RM240K only , for premium Suv. Toyota best
Such a stunning Game-Changing SUV! I really hope nobody will come here and claim that X70 have much sleeker design than this futuristic SUV, it is a very funny Game Over comparison indeed
A low rear roofline for an SUV. Ever wondered why only Mazda CX-5 has that shape and only this Harrier emulated that?
Deh macha!
Harrier created the suv market that you know today.
They can do what they want.
Looks like a boat
By the time, new harrier launch in here, rather top a bit to get this instead of Honda Accord
(Like) Toyota Harrier
(Dislike) Honda Accord
This is SUV is super fun
Not until it is put to test first !
No matter what, they will still buy a car with AEB and high quality that don’t have to pay much, unlike honda
Excitement & amazing. Bring it here
UMW shud step up their game. Malaysia cn assemble s90 hybrid, Xc90 hybrid n s600 hybrid. I’m sure we are more than capable to assemble this harrier, rav4, and camry hybrid.
All 3 could come with the same powertrain, full specs and no tax being a CKD hybrid model and sell them to RHD asia pasific markets and india
Do you think japs want to share their technology with you by CKD?. The selfish and copy cat japs are different from the Germans , French and Swedish mentalities.
The japs will shiver if we can made better cars than them in the future hence causes lost of sales and incomes for them.
Only honda will share most of the parts from GM. Toyota also share but not much. Toyota and UMW are now no longer to be selfish too as they have already improved and already learnt from their lesson from wrongdoings between 2013-15.
Now talk about honda. If you look at Honda Malaysia, why most of honda models are not included for Honda Sensing especially for City Turbo & BRV. And also why honda in here and everywhere still got problem for honda quality too. And even honda designer are also very lazy too design and begging for GM to help some of the new models when most of honda design looks even more lousier too. And you also wouldn’t know that honda might get other tech from other countries
If there’s one model I like Toyota to launch here it would be the RAV4. Yeah the CRV is king however with the ever booming SUV market, I think there’s a business case for a SUV priced under the Harrier. I guess UMW doesn’t want the RAV4 to compete with the Fortuner.
Looks like an aston lagonda
But honda also looks more uglier and copying from other designs too lol!
Aston lagonda concept suv, it was never put into production, cn google it
Nice!!
Just looks like a shorter Highlander. This may be sold as the new Venza in the US.
Kinda has the silhouette of the Aston Martin DBX.
Means we will see grey imports coming in 2021. TBH the current Harrier still looks good. I’m quite keen to see how it looks inside.
We will see if it still have TONs of piano black finishing. That is SO Toyota. Also, watch for Toyota Lane Centering; whether they (UMW Toyota) will give us or not!
For the current model, better buy XC40 if size is not your concern. XC40 is better-equipped for the similar price range. Anyway, both are still better than ANY CVT SUVs.
Harrier or Rav4 if umw can bring in with affordable prices. More people will switch from other brand to Toyota. Everyone knows this brand for its reliability. Pls give best price.
What a nice design…frankly, it should be as comfortable as the previous generations…what a nice ‘üncle car’…simply looking forward
Front end overhangs too much, proportion looks weird for this FF SUV. Why they build the grill way forward like that? It will be hard to maneuver around tight corners.
