You would have heard of the Toyota Veloz by now, essentially Toyota’s version of the new Perodua Alza. Both seven-seater MPVs, along with the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia in Indonesia, are the same car, each with its own specs and positioning. Launched two days ago, the Veloz is priced at RM95k, which is RM20k more than the top Alza AV.
RM20k sounds like a hefty premium over the already well-equipped Alza, but this is more than just a bumper and badge change, as we’ll point out in this walk-around video.
There are certainly more differences between the Veloz and Alza compared to the previous set of twins – the Perodua Aruz and Toyota Rush. These range from extra kit (wireless charger, ambient lighting, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, auto air con) to suspension (190 mm ground clearance is lower than in Indonesia, but 30 mm more than Alza’s).
Design wise, the Veloz face and headlamps are unique, the wheel arches are more prominent, there’s a black roof, the wheels are larger 17-inch items and the rear LED signatures go all the way to the logo. LED DRLs are standard, too.

Like the Alza, the Avanza-replacing Veloz sits on the modern Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform and both share the same powertrain. Under the hood is a 2NR-VE 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The Dual VVT-i unit is paired with a D-CVT gearbox driving the front wheels. The CVT has manual mode and the driver can choose from three drive modes (Eco, Normal, Power).

Both are “Daihatsu Xenia” knockoffs, but the other cost 20k more. So, you tell me which is wiser choice?
By the way, one guy said that one of the reasons to buy the more expensive one is because “service” quality.. yeah, like we go to service so often. Most probably we only go once a year.
Prefer Veloz is better. More premium & more features
But come to service quality then you will find that
assembly in same factory, same line, same machine and same workers, only different badge.
Staffs from same education, same culture, same working attitude, just different company.

Correct both Alza and Veloz are from same factory but same built in quality but what am I saying is about when you go to which brand when entering to aftersales service
Extra RM20k should have put turbo, the NA engine is honestly quite dragging
Then maintenance cost and on the road price for turbo isn’t as cheap as NA engine
This is because 4AT is draggy. DCVT will give better power and is not draggy than 4AT

Veloz Langkawi price RM 88k, PM RM 95k, so 8k for tax.
Alza Langkawi price RM 72.6k, PM 75.5k, so 2.9k for tax.
88k – 72.6k = RM 15.4k is actual price different with alza not 20k.

Veloz MY – 15mm lower than Veloz Thailand 190mm vs 205mm
Elsa MY – 30mm lower than Veloz MY 160mm vs 190mm
Lower ground clearance for better stability,
So you don’t need self modify and void warranty.
MY version is better than Asean version.
Even some find 160mm not low enough,
Vios ground clearance only 133mm.

But u tag it 70k against 95k, it is cheap.
Ok enough. Anyone who comment Veloz is better or quality or aftersales service bla bla bla is definitely Toyota salesman. I’ve provided the option to argue with facts but instead they keep on insisting better quality, aftersales etc. I don’t care if you buy for label or some features that you can’t imagine to get on Alza. At the end of the day, it’s up to the buyer to decide which option is wiser.
