2024 Porsche Cayenne E3 facelift CKD launched in Malaysia; more power, new look inside/out; RM600k

Following the start of order taking for the new Porsche Cayenne facelift CKD last month, Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) today officially launch the refreshed SUV in Malaysia. As with the pre-facelift Cayenne, which was the first locally assembled Porsche in Malaysia, the facelifted one will be made at Sime Darby’s assembly facility in Kulim, Kedah – this is just a few months after the global debut in April this year.

The starting price of the new Cayenne is RM599,999 inclusive of taxes and duties, but excludes on-the-road fees, any options and insurance. For the money, you’re getting the base powertrain that consists of a 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine rated at 353 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) from 5,300 to 6,400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 1,340 to 5,300 rpm – that’s 13 PS (13 hp or 10 kW) and 50 Nm more than before.

This is paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and a variable all-wheel drive system. With the included Sport Chrono package, the Cayenne will get from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds on its way to top speed of 248 km/h.

Other driving-related systems include Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Stability Management (PSM), automatic Brake Differential (ABS), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive air suspension, Power Steering Plus and an inter-axle differential lock with a controlled multi-plate clutch. Braking is handled by four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers at the front (with 350-mm discs) and two-piston units at the rear (with 330-mm discs).

In terms of visual changes, the exterior of the Cayenne receives a redesigned bonnet and wings to visually emphasise the vehicle’s width. The headlamps are also new too, and they feature matrix LED technology as standard. At the rear, the design of the three-dimensional taillights has also been revised, and the tailgate bears simpler surfacing – the licence plate recess is also positioned further down than before.

Moving inside, the Cayenne’s dashboard has been tweaked to have cleaner lines and more discreet air vents, but the most significant revision is the angled centre console. The traditional gear lever is gone to make way for a larger stowage space, replaced with a toggle-like switch located to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard.

What’s left is a volume dial as well as tactile and illuminated-when-on touch buttons, the latter to control the climate control system. To access other vehicle systems, you’ll need to go through the central 12.3-inch Porsche Communication Management (PCM) touchscreen, while drive mode selection can be done via a dial attached to the new steering wheel. The trademark grip handles that have been around since the first-generation E1 remain where they’ve always been.

Other standard kit that comes with the Cayenne includes adaptive cruise control with the new Evasion Assist function, soft-close doors, front and rear Park Assist with Surround View, 14-way powered comfort seats with memory function (the front seats have the Porsche crest embossed on the headrests), electric roll-up sun blinds for the rear door windows, a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster, a 15-watt wireless charging pad and Bose sound system.

We mentioned options at the start, and for the Cayenne, you can choose from three exterior colours, namely Carrara White Metallic, Quarzite Grey Metallic and Chromite Black Metallic. The interior leather upholstery is also available in two themes, which are a two-tone Black and Bordeaux Red as well as a monotone Black.

The exterior and upholstery hues are offered at no cost, but you’ll need to pay more to get different wheels. By default, the SUV comes with 20-inch Cayenne Design alloys, although you can upgrade to 21-inch Cayenne Exclusive Design wheels in a high-gloss black finish for RM45,000. Need something even larger? Consider the 22-inch Sport Design wheels, also in high-gloss black, for RM49,000.

Another option is from the Porsche Tequipment, and it is a rear seat entertainment system (RM13,500) that adds two 10.1-inch touchscreen displays for rear passengers to input a variety of media content. The catalogue also includes a roof tent and roof box, rear bike carrier options and more so you can set up your Cayenne to suit your lifestyle.

With the options listed in the local online configurator picked, the Cayenne’s price goes up to RM662,499 before on-the-road fees and insurance. As a special introductory offer, the first 250 Cayenne orders will come with matching painted vehicle keys.

Porsche Cayenne E3 facelift CKD open for booking in Malaysia – adaptive cruise, Sport Chrono; fr RM600k

Porsche Malaysia has announced that the 2024 Porsche Cayenne facelift is now open for booking in Malaysia, with prices starting from RM599,999, including a two-year warranty.

This will be the base Cayenne powertrain specification and which is locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah, which is powered by the firm’s 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine that outputs 353 PS and 500 Nm, transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard equipment specification for the Cayenne in the Malaysian market – otherwise optional in other markets – is comprised of adaptive cruise control, soft-close doors, and the Sport Chrono package. Also included are matrix LED headlamps, PASM adaptive air suspension, Power Steering Plus, 20-inch Cayenne Design alloy wheels, and front and rear Park Assist with Surround View.

Inside, the locally assembled E3 facelift Cayenne is also equipped with 14-way adjustable comfort seats with the memory package, while the front seat headrests get the Porsche crest embossed as standard, along with electric roll-up sun blinds for the rear windows. Also on are the Bose Surround Sound System and smartphone wireless charing pad that can recharge devices at up to 15W.

Interior revisions for the facelifted E3-generation Cayenne see the transmission selector relocated to the dashboard to make room for more storage on the centre console as well as the air-conditioning controls. Driver instrumentation is by a curved, freestanding 12.6-inch digital display, while infotainment is via the central 12.3-inch PCM display.

The 2024 CKD Cayenne facelift can be further customised from the Porsche Tequipment catalogue, such as 21-inch Cayenne Exclusive Design and 22-inch Sport Design alloy wheels, while rear seat entertainment systems can also be specified as an option.

Porsche customers in Malaysia may place their orders for the 2024 Cayenne – among other Porsche models – via the brand’s digital platform, and for the first 250 Cayenne orders, matching painted vehicle keys will be offered with the new vehicles.

As before, other variants of the Porsche Cayenne will continue to be offered in their fully imported (CBU) forms, with three other variants shown on the Porsche website for the Malaysian market; these are the Cayenne E-Hybrid, Cayenne S, and Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid.

The 1,000th locally-assembled (CKD) Porsche Cayenne has rolled off the production line at Sime Darby’s assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah, Porsche Malaysia recently announced on its official Facebook page.

This comes just a little over a year and two months after the initial CKD unit of the SUV exited the German brand’s first local assembly facility outside of Europe last March. The assembled-in-Malaysia Cayenne was launched here in November 2021 at a price of RM550,000, with the figure being inclusive of taxes and duties but excludes on-the-road fees, any options and insurance.

Offered in its base version, the CKD Cayenne was RM115,000 less than its CBU counterpart, but keep in mind that asking price also factored in the full sales tax exemption for CKD vehicles that was active at the time. According to Porsche Malaysia’s website, the retail price has since been revised to RM575,000 starting from July 1, 2022.

The Cayenne is powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine that puts out 340 PS (335 hp) at 5,300 to 6,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 1,340 to 5,300 rpm. The mill is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and an active all-wheel drive system, allowing for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h. The SUV also comes with adaptive air suspension that includes Porsche Active Suspension Management.

Standard equipment that comes with the SUV include four-zone climate control, Comfort Access Park Assist with front, rear and surround views, 14-way power-adjustable comfort seats with memory function, LED headlamps with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), LED taillights, four-zone climate control, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a 12-inch touchscreen, Porsche Connect services and Apple CarPlay integration, ambient lighting as well as a Bose surround sound system.

Colour options remain at three, with Carrara White Metallic and Quartzite Grey Metallic being returning hues, while Chromite Black Metallic replaces the previous Jet Black Metallic. Meanwhile, the two interior leather themes – Black and a two-tone Black-Bordeaux Red – remain unchanged.

Customers will continue to be able to specify additional packages, including the Exclusive Manufaktur that adds on a SportsDesign styling package (unique front apron and more pronounced wheel arch extensions), a sports exhaust system, dark-tinted lighting clusters, LED door projectors with the brand logo and a key fob that matches the exterior colour for RM52,000 (previously RM58,000).

Also available are accessories from the Porsche Tequipment range like a luggage net (RM536), boot liner (RM842), all-weather floor mats (RM1,027), car care products (RM1,095) and a bicycle rack (RM3,032), while a personalised Porsche Design timepiece can be had for RM38,888.

Here’s a gallery of the locally-assembled (CKD) Porsche Cayenne, which was first announced last November and has since begun rolling off the production line at Sime Darby’s assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah.

Priced at RM550,000 inclusive of taxes and duties, but excluding on-the-road fees, insurance or any options, the Cayenne CKD is RM115,000 than its CBU counterpart. The figure also factors in the full sales tax exemption that is currently ongoing until June 30, 2022.

Remember the Porsche Cayenne CKD announcement from last year? Well, the first ever locally-assembled unit has just rolled off the production line at Sime Darby’s assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah.

It’s a historic moment, because this is the first assembly facility for Porsche outside of Europe. According to the firms, the CKD operation is meant to serve only the local market, and the quality control processes are identical to the automaker’s mother plant. The base Cayenne is currently the only model being produced locally, and it is built up to snuff.

During the press conference, Sime Darby Motors managing director Andrew Basham said other variants of the Cayenne will remain as CBU units, though the plant can be scaled up to produce other variants or other models should there be demand. This won’t be anytime soon, but it’s a possibility. Porsche AG board member for sales and marketing, Detlev von Platen said “we must learn to walk before we run” while hinting at further plans, including ASEAN exports.

Construction of the plant began in December 2020, using an existing warehouse as a base before turning it into a high-tech facility. It’s 100% staffed with Malaysians who have been comprehensively trained by Porsche, with production being supported by a network of local suppliers and service providers. Six key modules are sourced locally – centre console and cockpit (Clarion), front and rear axles (ZF), and the front end module assembly.

Porsche board member for Production and Logistics, Albrecht Reimold said: “The new assembly site in Malaysia meets specific market needs and operates alongside Porsche’s established network of production sites in Europe. It meets comprehensive quality standards set forth by Porsche when assembling Porsche sports cars,” and is also a benchmark for efficiency, quality and sustainability.

Several energy-saving measures include installing solar panels on the roof for supplemental energy, rainwater harvesting technologies, as well as thermally insulated walls to reduce energy consumption. The exterior walls are deliberately curated to match Porsche’s global manufacturing identity, and it is also the first air-conditioned plant in the country!

Based on our earlier report, the Cayenne CKD will start from RM550k, making it about RM115k cheaper than its CBU counterpart. The standard kit is also enhanced with 21-inch RS Spyder design wheels, Bose surround sound system, 14-way power-adjustable comfort seats with memory function and Park Assist with front, rear and surround views. These were all optional before.

The kit list also includes LED headlamps with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), LED taillights, four-zone climate control, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with a 12-inch touchscreen, Porsche Connect services and Apple CarPlay integration, Porsche Advanced Cockpit, a sports steering wheel, paddle shifters, a Direct Touch Control-equipped centre console and Comfort Access.

Besides that, there’s also a specially-curated Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur option package, as well as a special Porsche Design timepiece. A range of Tequipment accessories are available, too.

2022 Porsche Cayenne CKD in Malaysia, RM115k less, from RM550k – first assembly plant outside Europe

The Cayenne is the first Porsche model to be locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia, with deliveries estimated to begin by March 2022. This comes after the German brand announced in August that it will set up CKD operations in our country together with long-standing partner Sime Darby. Assembly of the Cayenne will take place in Kulim, Kedah, marking the first time Porsche cars are produced outside of Europe.

For now, only the base version of the Cayenne is being offered in CKD form, priced at RM550,000 inclusive of taxes and duties but excludes on-the-road fees, any options and insurance. The asking sum factors in the full sales tax exemption (who would’ve thought we could say that about a Porsche?) that is ongoing until June 30, 2022.

By comparison, when the Cayenne was a CBU model, it retailed at RM665,000, so you’re looking at a price reduction of RM115,000 thanks to local assembly. Interested parties can place a booking via a dedicated website, where they can also specify additional options (more on that later). To mark the debut of this ordering platform for Porsche customers in Malaysia, a Porsche Driver’s Selection voucher worth RM 911 will be complimentary for the first 50 orders placed online.

On that mention, Porsche Malaysia, which is represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), is offering the CKD Cayenne in three exterior colours – Carrara White Metallic, Jet Black Metallic and Quartzite Grey Metallic – as well as two interior leather themes – Black and a two-tone Black-Bordeaux Red.

There are also items from the Porsche Tequipment catalogue like a luggage net, boot liner, all-weather floor mats and others to choose from. On request, customers can also specify a carbon interior package to get carbon-fibre, while a range of 22-inch wheels are also available. If that’s not enough for you, how about a Porsche Design timepiece for RM38,888?
