It is a government matching grant announced in Budget 2026 and launched by the Transport Ministry in early 2026. Eligible recipients get up to RM2,000 from the government, matched by up to another RM2,000 from participating national carmakers — up to RM4,000 in total. The conditions: your old car must be 20 years old or more, it must be scrapped through JPJ's e-Dereg system at an authorised automotive treatment facility (AATF), and you must buy a new national-brand car. The allocation is limited (RM10 million, roughly 5,000 recipients), so terms and availability can change — check the latest official announcements before deciding.

Two key conditions: the car being scrapped must be 20 years old or more, and the rebate only applies if you buy a new national-brand car from a participating carmaker. If you have no plans to buy a new national car, the rebate does not help you — and selling your old car outright on the used market may return more. If your car is still registered and driveable, check its market value first — scrap value is essentially the price of the metal, while a usable car is valued as a car. Condition affects value, but an older car with minor faults can still be valued. Be upfront about your car's actual condition when Carro contacts you — they will advise whether an inspection is worth proceeding with, and it costs you nothing to ask. For cars that are badly damaged or no longer driveable, the scrap route is usually more practical.

In brief: settle any outstanding loan first so the registration card is free of claims, then deregister the vehicle through JPJ's online Vehicle Disposal system (e-Dereg) and hand the car over at an authorised automotive treatment facility (AATF).
