Changan to be represented by Tan Chong in five ASEAN countries – Malaysia not among them

Over in Singapore, news has come about that Tan Chong International is set to distribute Changan Automobile products in five countries around the region.

The company will represent the Chinese brand in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam as well as the Philippines. Malaysia is not in the equation, because the brand is already being handled by Changan Berjaya Auto.

It was reported that the deal came about when Hong Kong-listed Tan Chong, which makes car seats for Changan in China, was approached by Changan. Tan Chong is due to start up a newly formed subsidiary, TC Changan, in Indonesia this week, followed by Thailand in November and Singapore by the end of next year.

Indonesia and Thailand are expected to be the biggest markets for the company. The reports add that the first model likely to be introduced will be the seven-seater Honor, priced around the same level as the Toyota Vios.

As for Vietnam and the Philippines, operations are expected to kick off with the introduction of the Eado sedan sometime in the first quarter of 2013. Anticipated total sales figures for all five markets is expected to reach 10,000 units in four to five years.

  • Wonder why Tan Chong went with the Chinese make??? Renault has not done well and the Chinese brands have not been accepted with it’s poor perceived quality and after sales service. They must see something that we don’t.

    Copy n paste!
The new Chang’an Eado sedan debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and debuted in China at the Guangzhou Auto Show last month. The Eado will be listed on the Chinese car market in March next year, price is expected to range from 70.000 to 110.000 yuan.
The Eado comes with two engines: 1.5 turbo and 1.6. Chang’an found new little clean words: ‘Blue core’, it means the Eado is clean, CO2 of the 1.5 turbo is lower than 120g/km. A lot of safety stuff is standard: ABS, EBD, ESP, 6 Airbags and a ’5-star’ safety rating. The Eado is styled by Chang’an’s Italian design center and will kick-start Chang’an’s invasion of the European market, when export starts however is yet unsure.

whatever it is; in countries like Singapore;Indonesia;Thailand; sedan passenger car ownership spans is only 4-5 years before they junked it or scrap and buy a new one. it is only in malaysia where any car be it Korea, or China make is made to be expensive with poor resale value and probably we are stuck with it for 7-10 years.
