Suzuki not interested in larger Volkswagen holding

Suzuki logoSuzuki CEO Osamu Suzuki reinforced his stand today that he does not want Suzuki to become a Volkswagen brand and prefers to continue as the two companies are right now, which he describes as one between ‘equal partners’.

Volkswagen currently holds 19.9 percent of Suzuki stake and that makes them the company’s largest single shareholder. This new stake purchase is a relatively new thing to happen and we haven’t exactly seen any new fruits of the partnership yet. In fact, Suzuki’s most recent concept car unveiled in India earlier this month still reeked of the company’s past association with Government Motors.

Why aren't they interested in having Volkswagen as their parent? Is this part of the Japanese culture taking hold? Not wanting to lose face against a Westerner?

As far as I can read, it looks like that is the only reason. There has been no report of why the dude thinks being a part of the Volkswagen group would not be more beneficial. He just keeps saying he doesn't want it.

  • BTW: VW currently refused to buy more shares from Suzuki. Maybe CEO Osamu Suzuki is looking for other sources of money?

"When Suzuki becomes a bigger and more successful company, Volkswagen will probably want to buy more of our shares,' Suzuki told a news conference.

'If that happens, Suzuki will probably respond by saying, 'Let's continue as we are,' he said. "

    Source: Reuters

Yes, WHEN Suzuki becomes a bigger and more successfil company, VW PROBABLY want to buy more shares.

But NOW Suzuki have to look for other sources of money… ;)

This is the first time i saw penyo mention someting nice, which is the suzuki wagon r. Yup, it is one of the best k-car around in japan.

I even sat on a Kei car before, quite nice. But sadly it is in a chop shop. Should bring those K-cars in Malaysia to be a competitor towards Perodua.

Best selling only in Japan. Only three million have been build since 1993, not too much compared with other cars… ;)
