Fresh from record calendar year sales in 2018, Perodua has started this year on a bullish note. The market leader revealed that it sold over 20,100 vehicles in January 2019, including 1,025 units of the recently-launched Aruz SUV, all registered on the last day of the month. P2 has collected 8,000 bookings for the Aruz.
“Despite the delay in the registration of Aruz, we managed to maximise the delivery of Aruz up to the wee hours, in anticipation of the long Chinese New Year break,” said Perodua Sales MD Datuk Zahari Husin.
“Pending official figures from MAA, we estimate our market share for January 2019 to be around 41.7%, a 9.2% growth from 18,400 units sold in December 2018,” he said. Year-on-year, Perodua’s January 2019 tally is 13.6% higher.
“The strong demand on Aruz has resulted some waiting period especially for the AV variant. We are doing our best to reduce this waiting period to a more acceptable level,” Zahari said, adding that the current Aruz order composition is 85% for the AV (RM77,900 OTR without insurance) and 15% for the entry X variant (RM72,900 OTR without insurance). Zahari also dispelled speculation that Aruz prices are set to increase.
As for Perodua’s other models, the Myvi leads the way with over 8,400 units sold last month, followed by the Axia (5,500 units), Bezza (3,400) and Alza (1,600). Specs, galleries and walk-around video of the new Perodua Aruz seven-seater SUV here.

Within people budget… congrats P2.
See, 13 thousands X70 bookings moved to this game changing Aruz! Habisla X70! Habisla john!
Perodua SA, Honda SA and Nissan Sa detected!!!
Japan hardwork, Toyota hardwork, lazy P2 fanbois just only can tumpang glamour.
Paultan Pls permanently ban Roti john Sdn Bhd aka YB Kunta Kinte. Everyone had already fed up with YB Kunta Kinte and his other fake names. Anyway, as wishes to everyone a great HAPPY CNY, Wishing you great prosperity
Are you a SOHAI? Perodua Aruz is a mini SUV like Honda BR-V and Toyota Rush whereas Proton X70 is a large SUV like Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. Are you seriously comparing both of them like comparing a dolphin with a whale? Your comment are one of the if not the most sohai comment I have ever heard from. Moreover, I also see you talking busuk about Proton in most articles and using several names about john. Don’t you feel malu of yourself? Padan muka lah!
Bro just ban John Minum Teh 8X and his over 50 fake dupes
Welcome to this website’s comment section! It’s normal la..
Malaysians are willing to buy a smaller SUV and sacrifice their X70 order because The Aruz uses a time tested Toyota engine that is recognised all over the world. Toyota engines and cars have won thousands of awards all over the world. Infact, every first world country has approved Toyota engines for sale
Geely Boyue, 95% only sold in China. Geely tried so hard to market the car in First World countries but every country rejected the car due to low standards.
Only 5% is now sold mainly in Malaysia besides a few 3rd world countries
This long holidays, john will come out with his 20 dupes and create a scenario that so many people hate Perodua.
End of the day, sales figures prove otherwise.
Why Perodua do well is very simple….
Perodua workers work hard. they are focused. They work non stop. Break also 15 minutes. They follow Japanese hard work ethics
Proton workers just lepak only. Minum teh and makan kuih 8X in the kantin. Always MC and tuang kerja. Half the time looking at awek kilang and trying to tackle.
No wonder Perodua sales in 20k!!!!!!
No worries bro. The more he talks about P1, the more sales P1 gets. Let him promote P1 somemore. 1st month Anuz only get 1k sales while X70 1st month sales alredi 2k. He did say sales figure means everything right? Lolz!
Agree with you, its different segment of car, aruz is 99% avanza enjin if not 100%
Proton X70 is equivalent to 400K Evoque Range Rover…
Amazing .. dont know where these buyers are coming from. Either Perodua and Proton are lying to shore up confidence….. or the economy is really doing well
Hahaha it’s surprising that this comment got approved by the moderators. Thumbs up.
Hahah typical proton logic. Cakap besar on how they going to change the game, asia bmw, increase sales from 50k to 200k but when they lose, they will say cannot compare because different segment.
Not 50k, is 60k. This year they target 100k. Ur fact is wrong.
Paid keyboard warrior and his dupes this is what readers expect. They fill all articles with hatred towards p1
not just P1, but anything malaysian lah- this fela first to condemn, nothing good ever from his heart- same keturunan with Si Kitol who betrayed and partake in the fall of Melaka.
so large also but only 5 seater??? ha ha ha. Even Myvi also got more legroom and space.
China not clever. Don’t know how to optimise space
So much of denial from Proton fanboys about the 15,000 bookings that lari. Today it is finally proven.
It is obvious fact, so many X70 bookings lari to Perodua. Well done Perodua. you have done so well.
This is why PErodua sells 230,000 cars per annum and Proton only sells 60,000 cars per annum.
Buyers want honesty.
Only someone very silly will spend RM123k for a 5 seater China car when you can get a 7 seater Japanese car for RM73k
Cannot tahan our laughter ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
We will stick to our CX-3, no P2 anus thanks.
2777 units win over 1025 units
7000 units booking cancel?
X70 will end up like perdanacord and ertiga, even well known brand also failed, apa lagi x70. Buyers will regret end of day. Price of x70 all out of rakyat bajet. Rakyat want affordable bajet car like p2. P2 will keep on dominating, p1 will keep down n down n down. Unless u bring in back Suzuki n rebadge swift n vitara to boost back. Swift n vitara are the good choice.
Ala baru 8 thousands. X70 lagi banyak 13 thousands.
P2 is poor car for poor pipu. P1 is best car for the middle class pipu.
Someone’s X70 got engine overheat problems on FB. This shows that the reliability is not good.
Is the X70 as good as what many people like you claimed?
Aren’t you the same person that claimed to see so many Aruz in his neighbourhood even though it only debuted this Jan and only sold 1,000 units?
That’s a different person. I can assure you that. Go find the user and tegur him, not me.
By the way, the overheating turbo engine incident is not fake news. Just go to the X70 FB group and search for it.
Your P1 got no RV! At least P2 got high RV since it uses a toyota engine. This is why P2 drivers should not act like samseng on the road! Don’t busukkan nama Toyota…
Meanwhile, p1 only sold 7007 cars in Jan. 2777 of it x70 after booking open since Oct last year. Aruz booking open only this year Jan already sold over 1000. So clearly aruz the winner here. P2 all the way.
As always.. price segment is no1 on malaysia..
John cannot read this news. Later he will panic!
Never mind! Proton will surpass Perodua’s sales after the introduction of X50. As we can see, Proton sold 7k cars last month and most of them were X70. In the next following months, Proton will surpass Honda and then its archenemy, Perodua. So, good luck, Perodua!
Yup.. This year Perodua sold 50k units, proton sold 200k units. Mark my word..
It will never happen.
Proton sales MAY increase, but Perodua will continue to dominate the market for 2019.
Buyers are all fed up with Proton. Every person in Malaysia has owned a Proton and we all know that when you have problems with your car and you go to the SC, even the SC will laugh at you and tell you, “Bang, this is a Proton, it is not a Mercedes, oil leaks etc are normal”
Proton X70 is the market changer. CX5 and CRV wud see major drop in prices
@YB Kunta Kinte
I just read a FB post about someone’s X70. His turbo engine overheated and got problems now… habisla…
Buyers are all fed up with Proton. Every person in Malaysia has owned a Proton and we all know that when you have problems with your car and you go to the SC, even the SC will laugh at you and tell you, “Bang, this is a Proton, it is not a Mercedes, oil leaks etc are normal”
Lucky Proton got a hardworking CEO. Better bring in more Mainland people like Li Chunrong and replace the 10,000 overbloated deadlogs.
You will see Proton selling 200,000 cars a year after that. It is all about workers attitude.
Mark you word?? You’re are just a John Doe..
another syiok sendiri statement from the same guy who told us Malaysia had the cheapest petrol in the world and cheapest car prices in the world
This is why i say, john has unrealistic expectations.
John really syiok sendiri
Yes, x70 will sell well for 2-3 years. after that the customer will regret the durability and sell it at 1/2 price.
Based on past history and RV of Proton cars, you can rest assured Proton X70 RV will be half the price in 2 years time
2019 Perodua Aruz RM72k. 2 years later you sell can get RM55k
2019 Proton X70 RM123k. 2 years later you sell can get RM60k
Just talk2 without facts.. Blame here, blame there… Selling product shall passed all test.. More stringent the test, more durabile the product be. That is Proton
Im waiting for 2nd hand 2 years old premium x70 for 40k….yeay….
As with all Protons, after 1 year, the car will become half price lelong
Buy today, next year sell hardly can get RM70k
So shameful. China got to help Proton to sell well. 30 years of automotive engineering down the longkang.
So don’t be proud of X70 or X50 sales. This is sheer hard work by China and Geely
Look at P2, local company but succeed so well!
You’re kidding, right? Nothing will topple the ‘H’. Just 1/2 models will not be able to unseat the Kings of the Malaysian car industry. Not to mention, it’s not like Geely-Proton is perfectly received. Actual reasons why people haven’t wanted a Proton car in a long while: “because it’s a Proton”. Deny this all you want, won’t change history. The name is tarnished severely. As long as they refuse to rebrand, they’ll die with that brand. Geely has what it wants (Lotus), and will ditch a burning investment as soon as they see fit.
Bro of the 7k cars they sold less than half is X70 (under 3k units). How can you say ‘most of it’ are X70s.
And read properly la. P1 7k cars in Jan. P2 20k cars. A long way to go man
P1 current model fight with Honda and Toyota, ignore chapalang P2.
The second domestic car (Perodua) held the seat of the private car sales champion last year, accounting for 41.5% of the total sales; Honda (Honda) accounted for 19.7%; Proton was 12.2%; Toyota (Toyota) was 9 %.
20% sales from P2 move to P1, P1 this year sales target.
Syabas P2, keep being our proud Malaysian automaker. Rakyat will keep supporting you as long as you deliver your best efforts. Stay humble.
How about theo render a suv-coupe ARUZ
Propoop made in China
Good job Perodua! In just short couple months, managed to get higher booking than overly hyped proton X70. The choice is clear to wise Malaysian buyer – Japan or China.
Only stupid buyer will buy the
MILO THIN BODY METAL OF PERODUA ARUZ SUV
Even young buyers feels no confident after going thru the Thin body structure inspection where safety occupant protection is highly questionable.
Toyota always make Milo tin cars like the Vios, Rush and now transfer this unsafe SUV to Perodua
Does Toyota wants to kill more Malaysian at the expense of it profit and sales expectation.?
The real malaysian national car.. Good bye proton & john
Proton is losing Rm4 mil per day with RM20 billion bailouts.
Perodua never take 1 sen also but can do so well.
Proton past 20 years never pay tax because loss making. Perodua has been paying billions each year in tax to the Government.
Our schools and hospitals are built with Perodua money!
“The government is looking for about 1,000 official cars this year, including 30 Vellfire and hundreds of Accord.”
P2 is owned by Daihatsu 51% and Daihatsu is control by Toyota.thus is not a National Car. Not many Malaysian know about this. And that’s why the Quality of the MyVs Axia Alza and other models are superb. We hardly hear P2 buyers complaint about the engine etc.
haiyaa… when p2 overlords rebadge u can say truly national car pulak…
Real Malaysian national car got Savvy, Prevé, Iriz and New Myvi exclude engine. The others are copy from other manufacturer.
Only losers buy a China made car when you can buy a Japanese car for far less
RM123k vs RM72k
Proton will be great again..
Will be great with China’s help. Also, all untung is repatriated back to China 100%
China says thank you to Malaysia for making it richer
Any different buying this Aruz? All untung is repatriated back to Japan 100%. We make Japan richer. Why?
Somemore that China car is so high tech and safer than this Japanese car that is not sold in Japan. Why?
still you guys keep comparing apple and manggis lol
Apa barang P2? low class product.. 4 speed in 2019? nanges enjin tu..kahkahkah!
From the comment, I saw BULL SHIT than BULLIST, haha
Wow, I thought this AWD type won’t sell well, but I was wrong. Just look at previous years on Rush, not many want to buy. But after rebadging under P2 with cheaper price.. the sales data has prove his potential. Well done P2!
Oh my mistake on previous comment, it’s not AWD type, but RWD type.sorry.
It is a bit sad for us elderlies if we were to be travelling in it. I had commented the seats should be comfy for a family car. BRV seems to be better.
Hoping the management to consider ensuring good suplier of seats for Aruz2.
Great work P2.
Again comparison between X70 and Aruz is not apple to apple as the segment varies. Though Proton will give a competitive challenge once the X50 and VF11 are launch in coming years but P2 will capture the market share for CUV under Aruz by that time. What rakyat wants is an affordable car and gives good mileage with a very reasonable cost of ownership which P2 wins the battle no doubt…
P2 Powerwindow > P1 Powerwindow
P1 gearbox > P2 gearbox
2777 units win over 1025 units
try the honda brv priced the same as aruz, surely will sell more. nothing to be impressed about.
Time to change ‘Perodua’ to ‘King Midas Motors’ :)
Thanks for increasing the traffic jam.
Perodua selling fast with its cheaper 20k Rush. Even it’s under power and completely from Rush, well let’s see how many it sold in 2019. Don’t compare with X70, Malaysian mind set is always comparing both P1 n P2. It’s totally different category with X70. If P1 sell well, all money goes to Geely coz it’s CBU. If Perodua sell well, all money goes to Japan coz P2 under UMW and Japan own it as well. So, end of story. Malaysia suffer economy lost.
U r right, pls encourage ppl buy Iriz and Persona dun buy Saga and Myvi.
Large body, small engine.
Why on earth do P2 make this announcement a day after P1 said it sales at 7,007 units for Jan 2019? Panic button pressed?
Habislah my drink!
Byk mahal, tak berbaloi
