2024 Isuzu D-Max enters Malaysian Book of Records – 2,000 km from Thailand to Malaysia on one tank of fuel

The Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck has achieved a new fuel efficiency record, and along with it a new entry in the Malaysian Book of Records for the record of longest distance driven in a pick-up truck on a single tank of fuel.

This follows the truck brand’s previous feat of travelling 1,146 km on one tank of diesel while carrying a 1,000 kg payload, a feat achieved by the single-cab version of the D-Max powered by the RZ4E-TC 1.9 litre common-rail four-cylinder diesel engine.

The latest feat was attempted with three units of the 2024 D-Max, comprised of one 1.9 litre 4×2 Auto Plus, one 1.9 litre 4×4 Auto Premium and one 3.0 litre 4×4 X-Terrain, which were driven from Phitsanulok in central Thailand – approximately 300 km north of Bangkok – to Klang, Selangor.

To observe that the vehicles were driven on the mileage record attempt without refuelling, the attempt was witnessed by a technical steward from the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) who sealed the fuel filler flaps of the vehicles.

“While we do not expect every customer to drive their Isuzu vehicles 2,000 km on a single tank of fuel, it clearly demonstrates the level of engineering that goes into every Isuzu vehicle to even make a feat of this magnitude a possibility,” said Isuzu Malaysia CEO Shunsuke Okazoe.

“With the rising costs of various daily items including the price of diesel, those who use the Isuzu D-Max in their daily operations will truly benefit from its cost-saving character,” said Isuzy light commercial vehicle division COO Kenkichi Sogo.

A certificate of completion was awarded to Isuzu Malaysia by MAM secretary-general S.N. Nathan and steward Muhd Siraj, and the certificate of achievement from the Malaysian Book of Records was awarded by its officers, Edwin Yeoh and Mohd Nazrul.

  • It will be better if the exact fuel consumption figures are stated for each of the three vehicles

    Think about it.

Why do they start from Phitsanulok, Thailand and end in Klang, Malaysia but not the other way around nor is it another route?

I recall achieving 99.9kmpl driving from Cameron Highlands to Ipoh the other day.
    lol…
