Alongside its diesel-powered T9 Grand ES twin, the JAC T9 EV has also been previewed in Malaysia, bringing battery-electric propulsion to the double-cab pick-up truck model. As with its diesel-powered sibling, the T9 EV is fully imported (CBU) from China, and the T9 EV comes to Malaysia at an introductory price of under RM200,000 for the first 100 bookings made before December 31, 2024.

Exterior dimensions for the T9 EV is identical to its diesel twin, at 5,330 mm long, 1,965 mm wide and 1,920 mm tall with a 3,110 mm wheelbase, with identical cargo tray measurements at 1,520 mm long, 1,590 mm wide and 470 mm tall.

Approach and departure angles of the T9 EV matches those of its diesel twin, at 27 degrees and 23 degrees respectively, though ground clearance is slightly reduced at 205 mm for the T9 EV. Externally, the EV variant is differentiated from its diesel counterpart by blue JAC badging on its front grille.

Propulsion for the T9 EV is by a dual-motor electric powertrain, comprised of a 160 kW (218 PS) rear motor and a 70 kW (95 PS) front motor with a combined torque output of 516 Nm, propelling the T9 EV from 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and to a top speed of 140 km/h.

Energy is drawn from an 88 kWh LFP battery that offers a claimed 340 km of range on the WLTP testing standard, and this supports up to 88 kW DC fast charging via CCS2 connection for a 30-80% replenishment in 35 minutes, while AC charging via Type 2 connection supported for up to 11 kW, which will bring a 15%-100% recharge in six hours 50 minutes.

As on the diesel-powered T9, the T9 EV gets two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 265/60R18 tyres, and the battery-electric variant also gets front and rear disc brakes. Also found on the T9 EV is the pair of integrated recovery tow hooks in the front bumper, along with the sports bar and side sill rails.

Differing from the diesel T9 is the omission of front parking sensors and roof rails. Under the bonnet is the front axle motor exposed on this showroom unit, below where the diesel engine would have been, though we have been informed that customer units will get a fully trimmed bay with a storage compartment.

The interior of the T9 EV largely matches that of the diesel-powered T9 with a seven-inch digital instrument display for the driver, alongside a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charging pad for smartphones, and a cooled centre console storage box.

Where this T9 EV also differs from the diesel variant is in the front seat equipment, with the EV getting electric seat adjustment for the driver only, whereas the diesel T9 gets power adjustment for both front seats, and the T9 EV replaces the transmission selector lever and 4WD selector dial with a single rotary selector.

On the passive safety front, the T9 EV also gets a seven-airbag ensemble like the diesel-powered T9, including a front centre airbag, and the JAC T9 has received a five-star Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) rating.

Offered in a selection of five exterior colours – red, black, dark grey, silver and white – and one of two interior leather colours (black or brown) depending on exterior colour chosen, the JAC T9 EV battery-electric pick-up truck is covered by a six-year, 200,000 km warranty. Market launch for the JAC T9 EV double-cab pick-up truck commences January 2025.

  • JAC why you show 2 different cars with the same exterior colour? On social media I see the thumbnails for 2 different articles for the 2 different cars and I think it’s just 1 article being fed to me twice when it’s actually 2 different cars

To price an EV pick-up truck with a range of only about 340km at RM200,000/- is suicidal ! A more reasonable price should be at the RM150K~170K range. Sime Darby is bringing in the BYD Shark (albeit a hybrid model) to be priced around RM130~140K and with a range of 840km. The Shark will be a huge competitor to the ICE Toyota Hilux. Toyota is slowly being squeezed in the market with hardly any EV models as with Honda due to the rising presence and top quality of many China models.
