More 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Spyshots

wcf_lancer_spy.jpg

AUTOMEDIA has new spyshots of the upcoming next generation Mitsubishi Lancer, which will be based on the same platform as the Dodge Caliber. While there are not much details yet on what will be powering this Lancer, let’s hope it’s something more updated than the bare bones 4G18 powering the current Lancer on our markets, similiar to the old Proton Waja engine.

Hopefully it is really a better car to compete in its segment. Mitsubishi is an ailing company and needs a breakthrough to survive. Sounds just like our Proton. Perhaps, if the car is successful Proton should use the same platform as well.

Mitsubishi lacked the necessary funding… so everything they design or use will be based on something old compared to Toyota or Honda.

From what I see, I think the rear lights would be thin and long.

SoMeOnE said, I disagree with you. Let's get 2 things straight.

1st, Mitsubishi may be in trouble but their troubles are no where close to where P1 is. At least, if they need help, they'd sell to some other co.s and merge into something more advanced.

2ndly, a Japanese CBU Mitsubishi IS NOT A WAJA. In terms of quality, Waja or any P1 can only dream to compare to a CBU car. To begin with, it's not a fair comparison at all, Waja is not even comparable to the cheapest CKD Korean. To compare to a Japanese CBU is a joke.

People who haven't driven a Jap CBU really MAY NOT have an idea how utterly well built their car is compared to our CKDs (whatever brand), least of all a Proton. Their quality control is SO STRICT that anything below 99% of their standards will not be passed. Even by that standards, when they need to, they will recall cars based on batches if they find something wrong down the road.

I do not drive a CBU Lancer, but I do drive a 12 year old CBU Galant which at its age, have no dashboard creaking sounds, power windows that works like new (without creaking). Kicks Perdana V6's butt anyday I choose and even kick 1.8GTi's butt on the highway when I so choose. That's because their fuzzy logic technology really works and knows exactly when I want gto kick butt, all 176ps of it.

The only cars better built than Japanese CBUs are the 2 main German brands. The other continentals are at best comparable.

The only laughable thing here is comparing a Waja against a Jap CBU, Misubishi or otherwise.

the 2007 Lancer shared same platform with Dodge compact MPV.

    not really a new platform.

the engine could be new, possibility about 70% that Mitsu will put new engine with more power under the bay.

hope they use the same headlights as the concept car.

Share platform with company like Dodge? Sounds great! As a diehard fan and supporter of Lancer Evolution, this a really a good news for me, hope that the upcoming new Lancer will be better than Impreza( both current model and upcoming model).

Maybe the new engine 4G19 with MIVEC, or maybe higher compression ratio, it added up another 10 hp for the current engine. But MIVEC is really efficeint, high hp and high torque.

I went to EON Glenamrie last weekend.

Sat in the Lancer and "played" around with all buttons, trying out the back seat, eventually the salesman offered me a test drive.

Here's my verdict. NVH is 1 step behind CIvic 1.8 I tested few month back.

Engine noise kindah loud as I can hear it in the cabin.

The interior quality is not so great but still better than our local cars.

Even though it's a CBU from Japan but it's fits & fitting are just average to me.

It's miles behind the Civics & Corollas. Maybe it's closer to Waja. Not in the same league but Waja could "catch up".

i doubt the lancer will be better than an impreza(even with the big price diff)…let alone corolla and civic.

the only reason the lancer is still existing is because it is supported by the evo(even though the same could be said the other way around.

Evo will be equipped with dual-clutch gearbox just what u found in VW.

what a great news, hope they will launch EvoX earlier than Summer 2007.

but as usual, a lot of people will buy normal Lancer and mod it into Evo.
