Proton today launched a very special version of their Neo CPS – the Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing. Priced at RM115k it has various equipment upgrades including an engine tune-up. Now producing 145 bhp and 168 Nm of torque, the engine is a substantial 25 bhp and 18 Nm up on the standard CPS. 0-100 km/h is now done in 9.2 seconds and top speed is 200 km/h, compared to 10.5 seconds and 190 km/h for the standard Neo CPS M/T.
RM115,000 is a lot of money to pay for a Satria Neo, but this doubled price tag over the standard Neo CPS comes with much more than just a carbon fibre bonnet and Lotus Racing emblems. There’s some serious performance upgrades that should make it quite a hoot to drive, and these improvements are not just reflected in the vital stats.
More vital than these improved figures however are things like revised ratios for the five-speed gearbox. According to a source in R3, the Neo R3 Lotus Edition will rev till its 7500 rpm redline in EVERY gear, and all sorts of torque curve issues have been been banished. We look forward to a test drive to confirm this exciting revelation. When the head of the R3 department is one of the best drifters in the world, you can be sure that the division’s products are not just about power and acceleration. Handling is a big part of the equation, and bearing the “Lotus Racing” name means that this car has to deliver some thrills behind the wheel.
There’s some delicious sounding hardware in this car. First up are the Öhlins DFV (Dual Flow Valve) fully adjustable coil-over suspension with spring and damper rates specifically tuned for this application by R3. The Neo also gets stiffened rubber bushes and revised suspension geometry. All these are claimed to deliver “racecar-like direct steering input and cornering precision”. The saved weight from the carbon hood also means that there’s less weight over the front axle, which is good news. This car is 62 kg lighter than the standard Neo CPS at 1150 kg.
If you peek behind the 16-inch Advanti alloys wrapped with 205/45 Bridgestone Adrenalin rubber, you’ll spot the four-pot AP Racing calipers gripping the front discs. The rear discs make do with single pot items. Other than the engine tune-up, you also get R3 Titanium Exhaust Headers, R3 Alloy Underdrive Pulleys, an R3 Tuned Exhaust System, and an R3 Carbon Fiber Airbox. These equipment including R3-tuned camshaft profiles contribute towards the power upgrade.
R3 has plans to make 25 units of the Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing Edition. Our sources say that 11 units are already accounted for, and we reckon that Proton will have no problems selling off the remaining units. They will of course come up with a second batch if response and demand is sufficient.

If EK/DC5 sell with its current price now with ony 25 produced in the market you know what will happen to HONDA? tutup kedaila. Thats why the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN will cost £38,599=190,656.67 MYR as only 20 units produced. Satria neo and satrianeo lotus R3 is differ same goes to Honda EK and Honda EK Mugen. For my opinion, kereta ni dicipta khas enjin dan chasisnya mmberikan keserasian kepada performance untuk jenis neo r3 lotus racing edition ni. Sgt Mantap. Ada mereka yg mmpersoalkan originality kereta ni?, aku rasa neo ni pun sama jugak dgn konsep HONDA VTEC TYPE R ( i mean the concept not the performance, its surely not same), cuba renung balik, bukan neo ni masuk side mirror lipat mmc kat wira kan? neo ni menggunakan barang2 racing ciptaan dan rekaan khas untuk jenis neo ni, so ini lah yg dipanggil originality, pada mereka yang agak lembab tu renung kembali sama tak konsep dia? betul tak kwan2?
Mereka yang mencipta dan mengubahsuai kenderaan ni sudah pasti nya menilai setiap point kereta ni dari segi cornering, engine performance, keselesaan, safety dan sbgainya agar balance. so for me, kalau sesebuah kereta tu mmpunyai BHP yg tinggi tetapi tidak serasi dngn chasis adalah sesuatu yang agak tidak memuaskan. so neo r3 terbaru ni adalah salah sebuah kereta yg diubahsuai dengan mantap rekaannya dan performance.

Really cool spec. Instead of produce it super duper ultra exclusive, its better to lower the specs a lil bit & increase the volume. Then the rakyat can be REALLY proud of having our very own F1 team & the best part is "The Machine". Guess PDRM have to work extra hard to chase us afterwards.
Or Proton perhaps to buat the new GTI. Sure they can regain the supremacy of Malaysian market & SEA & Australia & GB & Iran & wherever -lah!

I think the rear is a bit too cluttered, with all the emblems and decals going on. It might be better to group the "R3" and "Lotus Racing" text together on the left, and move the Lotus graphic to the fenders. Just my personal choice, though. :)
Other than that, the British racing green color looks good on the Neo. Can't wait to read up more about the car.

a proton engineer once said that you can actually bring your Proton cars to R3 and have it tuned up by them. there's a few package they are offering.. but those packages sure won't come cheap..

This Proton Satria Neo R3 is Lotus Company whom heavily modified from chasis and so on. Look at the specs of this car again. Together with many 3rd party sourced parts, i think the price justified it. There's engine modification in this R3 compared to the old Satria which is being sourced.
With so many modifications, there's well be alot of prototypes for trial and error…..Lots of time and also money will be spent on this R3……..
Besides, this is a limited editions model…

no need to pay more.. the pug 308 turbo has better spec sheet and better performance. There is no need for stupendous stopping power when you are only dealing with 145 bhp and a 0-60 figures which are almost industry standard today. In short there is really nothing to scream about other than a tarted up neo with some 'carbon effect' stickers and a bit of leather in the interior.
The performance figures might be impressive say 10 – 15 years back. Not today unfortunately. The less time and money spent on stupid projects like this, the better. Proton needs to build better cars before indulging in such frivolity. Look at Kia, have they bothered with so called tarted up high performance car in the past? They are light years ahead with their current range…

I always liked this car but never dare to buy because of the 'legendary' Proton build. So many things to love about this car yet so much to loath.
Things to hate about (when they can make it better):
-Outdated built (extensive use of steel for body structure where more aluminum can be used to reduce its weight) this car is very heavy for its size by today's standard.
-Door hinge is (I guess) from another 4 door Proton because the 2 door Neo's door is a lot heavier and a hinge designed for 4 door-er is not going to support its weight. The door feels slightly out of place, made it difficult to close.
-Gear shift is by far the worst thing in the car. Being hailed as a enthusiast car the car stick mechanism is a shame.
-Interior, just look at it..
But I cannot deny the car look so good. Only if they can address all these things, I would prefer this car to a swift sport :D
DK, Aluminium is expensive. Right now only the top supercar like the Audi R8 and I believe the Ferrari are made of aluminium. Costly cars. Audi tried to use aluminium in the A2 and it failed.
Not necessary, structurally is made of steel, but the filler metals in between like metal sheets and panels could be aluminum sheet. also the engine block. but this car isn't exactly 'cheap' isn't it?

the TSI is turbo AND supercharged..btw i dun like turbo.. if soft turbo no problem but the power is so small,better yet n/a all the way. hard turbo is powerful but its temperature is very high and it put a lot of stress on the engine thus making the engine 'manja' ..thats y race car rarely use turbo coz need bigger thus heavier intercooler and radiator and not to forget thicker(heavier) engine block,its hard to control on cornering also coz of the high tork..i like n/a i think ^^

But I would love to get a hand on the AP Racing brakes… I think the expensive part is the brake which I asked before that cost around 10 – 12k for it. You can't compare the price you get at ah beng with the price proton squeezed from their suppliers. Proton charged a premium because it is a limited edition. Proton should have done better in term of performance, not just a screwed add-on body kits.

For just a 20Nm bump? Even after those carbon fiber inserts, leather seats, brakes and suspension, a little blessing from Lotus you pay an additional RM60k? Probably reasonable lah. But the lackluster enhancement given is something I'm actually dissapointed with Lotus. I expected much more. 0-100 in 9.2 for a hothatch "tuned by Lotus"!? Boring to say the least. But like some say… it is definitely an enthusiast's car and DEFINITELY NOT a performance car.

I think overall proton & lotus doing a great job for this car… but sadly the price is too high up, beside the seat, we still getting a cheap interior like neo cps n r3. Why we need to spend approxi double of the price for just Lotus branding? If the price stick around RM70-80K then maybe can be a car to consider. But RM115K, We should spend our money wisely.
Have to say quite ridiculous price. The biggest drawback for me is the engine. Without a turbo, i doubt this car will be fast. Anyone can increase the output of an engine by making it rev higher. People normally don't because power @7000rpm is pretty useless because like Jeremy Clarkson said, it's like putting it at the top shelf, you never will be able to reach it before you have to break and go into a corner. Hopefully they should at least address the torque dip problem from the original neo cps (and looking at the graph they might have). Sudden dip in power while revving higher is pathetic to say the least.
Other problems from the original car will still surely be there. Poorly designed interior and shoddy build quality. Im sure the interior will rattle like a full blown orchestra @7000rpm vibration levels. Gear change is abysmal. The gear would be decent 15 years ago but at todays standard it is just really really bad.
At such prices there are so much competition (peugeot 308 turbo) that any sane person would pass up this car. However I can see some lotus, r3 or satria fans buying this car for its novelty value.

RM115K…. ok, sounds expensive, but think about it. The AP racing is what, RM15K? Engine stuff (new management, cams, pulleys, CF intake and K&N, titanium headers and new exhausts) is what, RM10K? CF hood, body kits with that lovely paint job and livery is what RM10K? New rims, the bridgestones, Ohlins fully adjustable, hard rubber bushes, is what another RM8-10K? Then interior stuff like seats, pedals and stuff, what RM3K? Plus their margin (need la, u think its a charity ka to do work for free…). Plus that over the price of the stock neo, its about there…. and its been prep'd by R3, if u know them, they don't simply buy aftermarket stuff and bolt them on, a lot of research is done to ensure it suits the car and its intended purpose…
Lil bit touch up.. under the hood.. may zoom you fast… 126 hp per tonne…its good!!!

agree, the brakes and coilover is the most expensive part upgraded and 145 bhp with 168nm is not impressive and 0-100kmh in 9.2 sec is SLOW! interior is still full of plastic unlike the old satria gti. exterior is acceptable and for me it looks too aggrasive for a low performance car. Trust me, when you drive this on the road, turbo cars will eat you alive… not to mention the tame golf gti and dc5.

This is just a souped up Neo R3. I was hoping a real Lotus upgrades done on the engine and chassis.

Suzuki swift sport, highly acclaimed handling, 0-100 in 8ish seconds. Spec says 8.9sec.
But my gtech says 8.3 sec after RM400 air filter mod.
So both are good handling cars, with the swift sport has faster acceleration and slightly cheaper.
Don forget suzuki swift sport is made in japan.

These cars are for specific target markets and not mass produced. And these target audience will pay the price for this sort of specs and exclusivity. Why is the price so high? Do the basic math (economies of scale). Low production count means higher per unit part cost.

Its a stupid project and it does not in any way help proton sell cars..you know, the cars which actually make them money.. the bog standard compacts, family saloons and mpvs. What it does is merely causes embarrassment to Proton for making a fuss over a tarted up piece of crap which is so far behind the technology and performance curve and proclaim that it is some sort of an engineering achievement. If you cant see that, perhaps you need to look in the mirror and see who actually is the idiot.
Proton is based on tax payers money and has cost petrol heads in malaysia dearly. So its open for all of us to criticize if they come up with such embarrassing hair brained projects. Low volume special edition cars are engineering showpieces. Not tarted up crap which is cannot even out perform its previous generation offerings (Satria GTi and Putra). Putting in off the shelf hot bits are nothing to shout about either.
Look at the Koreans, they have left us standing. Do you remember any hot limited edition cars from Kia? Yet despite not having that, they have come up with the Forte which is light years ahead from anything Proton is currently offering.
Specific target market? Exclusivity? Puhlezz… stop having delusions of grandeur. It is a Proton. It is no point buying a 'hot' 2 door 'sports car with high end bits when you are gonna get smoked by an old Satria GTi or worse still a 20 year old Proton Putra. last time when R3 used momo steering for neo R3 many peoples condemn them. no airbag, no safety but when R3 use original steering with airbag also have some buffoon said the steering is bulky, hideous and look stupid.

Had a chat with one of the R3 boys there, he said the 'carbon fibre' bit at the door and stering wheel comes from Japan, cost about RM100++.
This car also has Start button, very cool to me. Pricey maybe, but with just 25 units made, it's very special. Just before I went back, the R3 guy told me there's 4 more confirmed booking that day. As of the time I'm typing this, I dunno lol.
Neo IRC may be competitive but it has been re-engineered specifically for the job in hand… but i wonder if you can actually say the production Neo or even this Lotus Racing edition is really that competitive when compared to its competition – especially when you let the real 'hot hatch' like Clio RS compete/priced without the tax barrier… only then we will know if 115k is reasonable or not…

One thing for sure, this car is more purposeful than the TRD Vios not to mention Peugeot 308?!!. Just look at the specs! Ohlins are top drawer suspension item, and rarely comes into production vehicle as does AP Racing brakes, plus the engine is also reworked and tuned N.A style, not just simple boy racer turbo bolt-on item. Close ratio gearbox item is also used. Not to mention the carbon fibre parts. Lotus Engineering must have big input to this car development, together with R3 of course. So it might just be quite reasonable for the RM 100K plus price tag. (Although 145bhp might not sound good enough..maybe taking into account reliability for road use)

This car is re-manufactured by R3…
1. Headlight will transfor into an aquarium head lamp after 1 year. (No surprise, Proton Standard Accessory).
2. Annoying 'geng, geng' sound will appear on the door panel will you whack the volume above 21.
3. Bonnet cable will come off after a year (but you can screw it back yourself)
4. Funny sound from the front absorber (about 30mins every morning, then disapear). Proton fan say it is character but I say it is bull shit
5. Grip is shit (with 17' Potenza Adreneline R001) because the tail is lighter then the front because of the cast iron engine
6. You can't open the boot from outside, must use lever. Proton forget to include it but aquarium headlamp come standard.
7. Glove compartment can only fit 3 box of Durex
8. Fuel consumption is a joke, high fuel consumption but no power
9. Civic 1.8 can easliy reach 222kph for MYR118K, corner better and fuel efficient. Able travel at 120kph @ 2000 rpm, relaxing cruise if you travel allot.
Above is true because I own a Satria Neo 1.6 Can'tPro. The one positive thing I see in a Neo good look. Just like a cute local girl but she can't cook and the sex is not very statisfying.

i can only see this edition is more for showing off that the owner can afford to have Ohlins & AP Racing components etc etc on his/her Satria Neo… but with CPS engine, the car is handicapped by this particular item as it is tuned with only 145hp… you dont need Ohlins susp & AP Racing brakes for that kind of power… it's overkill…

Nice looking car with cool specs, no doubt. i guess if it is mass produced / not limited in numbers, the price tag wouldn't closely trail the £27k spanking new Ford Focus RS. I am talking about spec to spec comparison in monetary terms. I'm sure Proton bought the Ohlins and the AP's at a much lower price than some of us did.

Maybe 145hp is not good enough for rm115k, but who knows, since it is tuned by lotus, maybe at racing track it can overtake faster car during cornering.
On youtube u can view Best Motoring videos of fwd honda integra type-r dc2 200hp naturally aspirated wins over rwd silvia s15 250hp turbocharged on racing track, both factory stock.
And look carefully at power graph (dark blue color), u can see it reach almost 108kw (145hp) from 6300rpm until 7500rpm, so u will have close to max power between those rpm, unlike most naturally aspirated car where it max power will dip considerably as engine rpm decent. Wonder how the engine scream at 7500rpm.
But for me satria gti is still the fastest proton car, less than rm90k, 0-100kmh in 8.3sec….

This is a car that's going to be really hard to use as a daily driver. More of a collector's item and for track use – tune it up further. Reason – there are just 25 of these around and there are alot of special bits on this car which will make it a serious target for theft and/or vandalism. Just ask the owners of the original Satria R3 based on the Satria GTI.

The engines and performance should be much cooler, but I think the shell of Satria really suck, and wasted on such a masterpiece. Anyhow they should design a new sport-car shell for it, making the first Proton sport-car.

what is the different? all parts in this neo is plug n play…u can any time swap disk and caliper even the brake servo also. suspension is not hard to swap…other CF parts are changeable, to increase another 25hp is not a difficult job, swap high cam+enhanced exhaust system, intake and rechip the ecu easily can get this figure. what a big deal? lotus brand make this car price up? i don't think they ever do wind tunnel test to this r3 car.

Racing car set to be low in HP for better steering response? 1st time heard about this. if can each racing car they want to produce higher hp as they can with a particular cc. for better steering response it is suspension and differential job not by lower down the hp.

FYI, a lot of the racing car out there say, FIA GT1, those V10, V12 can be easily tuned to 900bhp or more.. but the increment is just about 50 ~ 100 bhp over stock engine + tonnes of lightweight modification and handling enchancement.

did you even know about balance. not tire balancing. if you are in drag race, yes of course you want as much as hp you can squeeze. but in track there are curve and bend. you will need to think about tire management, torque distribution, gear ratios, chassis balancing. you dont want to loose control when entering and exiting a corner. that why some car limiting their hp and torque to find perfect balance.

I think it's a good direction of proton!!Somehow I have different view on this … also some questions just came across my mind why I think Neo CPS is more expensive than Honda Civic Type R..(regardless brand of parts used in Neo as I assuming Honda is using equivalent reliable and proven parts too!!)
Weight to power ratio for PSNR3 is 7.5kg/hp (145hp; 1088kg; RM115000). CTR is 5.64kg/hp (225hp; 1270kg; RM199,800) which is +24% difference favorable to CTR..
Cost performance of PSNR3 is RM 793/hp. While CTR is RM 888/hp – Difference is -11% of course..+24%-11% = 13% better off than PSNR3. So, CTR is in fact more economical in term of performance….too fast jump into the conclusion??..Ok..let's look into this analysis again..?look here..
Everyone knows that lightweightness of any performance cars determine their performance on track/race, i,e. you pay more for lesser weight…since this Neo has classified itself as RACING….so, here have funny figures telling me …PSNR3 is in fact give u weight of 9.4kg/RM1000spent. While CTR is 6.35kg/Rm1000 (including super heavy tax) spent which also means that CTR has 33% more effecient than PSNR3 . So, in other words CTR is squeezing 33% more lightweightness and power with same amount money invest…..Yet to take into account of proven performance/reliability records yet of PSNR3….DONT SHOOT ME PLS…it's just my 2cents analysis..!!!!!

1. this is R3 car, not a Proton car… so why bang Proton for charging too much??? shouldn't it be R3 at fault here???

Brake and suspension is overkill??? one thing I have ever learned about fast driving, the better ur brake, the shorter the brake distance, can brake the car later than others, the shorter the lap time… the better the suspension, u might not even have to brake on corner!!! brake and suspension have never been about HP… but it's about how fast you can handle a corner…
3. one thing that i will regret on that car (and only one thing) is the seat… should've been a bucket or semi bucket… I hate current proton's seat (especially Gen2) for not having enough holding while making fast turn… but still considerable…
4. looking at the upgrade spec again, i have to say 115k is cheap!!! at first it might look pretty high… but it's cheap… i have to say, it worth 115k… the only thing left is the performance evaluation…
5. drive a CPS and learn how to squeeze the juice out of it… Campro have never been designed to rev only 2k RPM… if you rev lower than 3k then u'll get an underpowered engine… I have drove a Mercedes C200K, Proton Wira, Kancil, Viva, and Gen2 CPS… and I never regret the decision to buy Gen2 CPS…

For me.. I like performance.. so i think that this car is worth for me.. RM115.000.00 OTR price does make sense.. why?
-This car only produce 25 unit(Limited edition) -second batch will comes up if response and demand is sufficient… Imagine that you are driving a Proton Lotus R3 that only 25 unit limited car on the Road.. sure all the car fans will look on your car..
-Nice outlook.. sporty hatch.. sharp colour.. Proton CPS+Lotus+R3 badge.. crazy fender.. lot of CF stuff.. R3+lotus interior.. Advanti racing rims.. nice muffler..
-Good performance(145hp at 7k rpm) can pull 7500 redline on every each gear(R3 management+R3 full exhaust system-nice sound).. Top Speed of 200km/h is enough for me in malaysia.. For me i prefer handling and braking and a little bit torque(Touge Kaki)
-Huge brake system from AP racing.. this car have what a Ferrari have..
-OHLINS dammper and spring+tuned by R3
-Weight reduction(1150kg) This 3 combination+R3 tuning will take u very fast on track.. late braking no problem.. understeer reduced.. Nice grip..

I personally want R3 to take out another 300 units or so, but with "lesser" specs (remove expensive but unnecessary brakes, fancy dampers and paintjob, fibreglass body bits, ugly interior scheme), keep the engine tuning and carbon fibre hood and price at about RM82k. I'll have it in British Racing Green, minus the yellow decals.

Actually, for this kinda price I expected at the very least a more presentable interior. PVC wrapped original seats? Same old plasticky interior? That horrid looking steering with just a yellow line on top? Man.. this is Civic/Lancer money – sure they gave carbon fibre hood (perhaps RM2500 for a really good quality one), AP racing 4-pot (perhaps RM13000?) and all the nifty little bits, but surely that won't touch RM100k?
Anyway, this is good news for Satria Neo owners. It means their cars can be spruced up to 145bhp too…..

It just setting up local car price to be more sky high as other will say 'if Junk proton can priced like that, we must put more high as we're established marque'. Don't expect other manufacturer price is reduce if Proton continue its pricing for now.

if I purchased the car with 5 years loan, so i get free "loan" from the bank. Tell me which bank operates like that? Is it bank got no employee and system to maintain? no operating cost? Yes bank provide the loan but Proton is subsidising the interest. If got free, i am sure other make also will ask for zero interest for free from the bank.

Do simple calculation. 2% interest will add 10% more of the savvy price in 5 years. If Savvy is 40k in Thai, Proton absorb RM4k for the interest. Oversea operation is known of high operating cost and with interest cost to absorb, i don't see where is the profit comes from. Instead, Proton is purring bucks to sustain this kind of marketing in Thai.
Blame the bloody banks for Proton's high interest. 3.9% interest for the Savvy, compared to 3.4% for the 308VTi. Why are banks so biased?!
Proton cars already known of high risk from the owner until car qualitty itself. The car quality is in poor league that makes the depreciation curve so steep thus increase possibility the car being abandoned by the owner which off course will discontinue to pay the monthly repayment. The bank has it rights to protect its business and not to be blame for the different int rate issue.

Few will be made. if u want to buy civic type r suzuki swift or whatsoever just buy it but u can't be part of those few owner of Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing. Many ppl can say 'i have suzuki swift' but not many ppl can say 'i have Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing' . RM115K for a Proton Neo is a joke. Seriously.
145hp is a good attempt, but not enough for the pricy tag. Should have done away with all the unnecessary cosmetics (CF this and CF that) and stick to performance alone (handling, engine output, NVH) and most importantly PARTS RELIABILITY. There has been too many complaints on the current Neo's parts reliability that it is such a shame for this beautiful car.
Does this color of Green and Yellow a way to suck up to Tun? (in case everyone forgets green and yellow is the color of Kedah, where Tun is from).
All in all, my opinion is: Looks good overall (apart from the color). But too pricy. Why would ANYONE who is performance freak want to buy this? Does Proton has any thinker in their company? People who wants fast/good performance car will go for second hand Nissan/Honda sportscar (such as a used Nissan 350Z, or Honda DC5). It does not matter if it is 2nd hand, what matters are parts reliability, torque and hp numbers.
But 25 units will be sold off, only because there are many die-hard Proton supporters.
Pity them for not getting good value for money for their brand new Neo. Blearrghh

I've read nearly all of the comments here, and I was just smiling because sometimes ppl are that ignorant when it comes to bashing proton, our own Malaysian made product. I'm a fellow malaysian, so where is the spirit of nation in most of you?
Paul, I have a simple dare that maybe U can bring up to Proton or R3 ppl.
Have a shootout between the Satria Neo CPS Lotus Racing and ANY cars in that price range, plus minus 5, meaning 110k to 120k. U can bring ANY car that is lower than that price range, modify it to ur hearts extent, Turbo, NA upgrade, whatever, as long as U can show us the bill amounting the receipt of less than RM 120k.
THEN, bring it to SIC track, and have a 10 lap race. See on that fateful day, who outruns, outcorner and outbrake who. As for the rewards, if that Neo loses, whoever won against it gets bragging rights, and a discount on the Neo Lotus Racing edition the next time they put it on the market. If they lose to the Neo, then they sell their present car and make a booking for Proton.
Power is not everything in a car, its the handling and the driver is the most important aspect. Just my two sens worth.

yes,tengku djan has mentioned that they have the campro/campro cps engine tune up to 180bhp on wheel/crank, but only for racing purposes(mme) but this a road car n sometimes can be a track car which need to comply with certain legal issues for example minimum euro2 emission. dont talk about b16a or b16b vtec that didnt comply with the emmision regulation. if it is so good n comply with current regulation, why honda stop using this engine in their cars? they only use the newer one 1.6 vtec that only produce 120/123pshp where sell in singapore.
That is the benchmark. even honda only sell 1.6 vtec at 123ps/120bhp, why belittle cps that has 125bhp/127ps or this one that had 145bhp(more than r18a)??
forget to add,asian 1500max has rules that the car must be weigh according to the rules n the bhp is only at 120hp max. only torque they can alter. it is up to the team how to tune the engine n handling.

The handling side of this car, could give Civic Type R or Even Clio RS a run for their money. Maybe just need to extract more horses, to challenge on the straights.
As for the price issue, Proton just need increase a bit more the production volumes and you will surely get cheaper price!!

Too expensive for this upgrade version. If its 30K – 40K from normal version, quite reasonable. After all even a normal CPS version also able to reach max 200km/h. Nothing to shout. Or if they upgrade Proton Persona, i believe it would get better response.

judging from the picture above..that ohlins was fully adjustable…
-see the spring pre-load adjuster??
-see the main body height adjuster??(adjust the lower part of the strut unit independently)
-see the small adjustment knob at the bottom of the strut unit???
Judging from the aftermarket parts alone, I think the 115k asking price is VERY reasonable! AP Racing & adjustable Ohlins alone will set you back around 15-20k alone.
Just 1 minor wish, instead of upholstering the interior with nappa leather, they but some light weight recaros/sparcos for more weight saving. And yes agree with some guys here – the steering looks out of place in this car.
But I guess they does not intend to do a hardcore road-legal race car, like the previous Satria GTi R3. This is more of all-rounder car. I'm sure if they want to play on horsepower, they can achive it – but day-to-day drivibility will be compromised.
At last…Proton come out with new product…

Rm115k is quite expensive but still considerable due to the exclusive parts. Its a brilliant piece of art from proton and hopefully it'll be the pioneer of the more 'fierce' models in the future. but,to market proton isnt at ths way…….proton has problem with reliabilities…small2 thing count…sound proofing,alarms and power window failure (my uncle bought a persona,only a month..got stuck at 6.00 AM for abt 45 minutes because of alarm prob), materials use for interior can be improved also.there is no perfect car…
i believe if proton can cater small problems, improve the car quality, better design (neo design is nice,but too small for rear passanger)…it will attrct more people to buy…..

I am one of the test drivers of this car. Given to the right hands, a professional driver can easily take over Civic Type-R. Indeed, it handles even better. Civic Type-R is fast on the straight line but given a real world situation with bends, hills and whatnot, this car is a bang for buck. I'm confident that this car can take Jalan Semantan sharp corner at more than 110km/h with great ease.
This is a sports car so it's in a different league from typical passenger car. I'd advise the heavy critics to test drive one, especially if you're a sports car enthusiast.
Bashers that are typical daily drivers that consider straight line sprint is the ultimate thrill and high power output figures as the benchmark should enroll in professional driving classes to understand the dynamics of this car. Otherwise, they should rather keep it low.

one question: if honda can make 1.6vtech @ 182hp, why don't they still making them? why make a 2.0k20a ?
mostly because of the emission that make by this kind of engine make. i bet that proton can produces almost close the same HP but due to some restriction or regulation on making new engine, they have to make it compatible and tune it to just 145hp.. still, that Hp is still higher then those 308turbo.
because that's old tech already. they can squezee 185hp from 1.6 15years ago. but proton just can do 145hp in 2010? and price it 115.

Most of you are oblivious and are comparing apples to oranges. Let me give you some insights:
1) Head of R3 – Top 3 drifters in the world and all this done on his own accord, merit, hard work and passion for automobiles; trained by porsche and worked on merit with Lotus. He is highly regarded as someone who knows his shite. (same way Petronas is regarded in the oil & gas circles)
2) Car development requires hours of R & D – R3 has the facilities and are made up of professionals and this is a prerequisite of the head of R3. Some Ali/Ah Beng/Kumar workshop can't possibly do the same
3) This car is about handling and power is upped a bit to compensate an otherwise lacklustre engine but then again how many of you can handle this car full throttle around all the time?
4) This is not a car for the masses and thus do not compare prices like most of have done here.

Not bad considering the list of high performance parts it's equipped with. From that price, we can understand what group of customers Proton is targeting. In my opinion, this car is not for your usual daily usage. I would say it would likely be suitable for a car enthusiast who already has both an Evo and Impreza or maybe a Golf GTi, and Cooper S in his garage. A professional earning RM4K per month is highly unlikely to spend RM115K for this car. IF I have the money for this car, I would take it to the track.

2 xpensive f4 a LE collection car. performance wise so so only. hp shld be up at least 170hp with that torque curve. i bet this car is meant for a gymkhana. handy for a short track. overall ok but price 2 high.

Proton should have put in the turbocharged Campro 1.6 which they were working for the Exora Prestige Concept which is suppose to offer around 270 bhp and 350Nm performance figures mentioned before in a previous article. Then with all the performance upgrade parts R3 is chunking out for this car will be worth it.
Even if it’s a very limited production car and the price is even more than RM115k … it’s still worth it because a Neo R3 tune by Lotus Racing with that amount of power under the hood is something to talk about for a very limited edition car.
145 bhp is just sad ….. Even the Nappa leather seats in the Neo R3 LR looks terrible, just compare the nappa leather seats in the Lancer GT 2.0, now that’s quality from Japan auto maker we all can expect unlike Proton stuffing in some crap seats with most likely downgraded nappa leather :) Even the Start Button has something missing, Proton forgot to add the word Stop on the button …. I guess the car just remains idle until you have to go again, coz knowing the rich Malaysian who are buying this car, they won't know how to stop the engine until they are told … :p

the feeling of owning a super limited edition car is different.and,a tuned up car from reputable tuner also different.higher numbers(bhp,ps) sumtime dont contribute much,there are other factors contribute too.
if i have extra money,for sure i will buy this lotus R3.but,right now im driving a sciroccoR and turbocharged myvi.dont have extra $$$ for now.sigh,unhappy.

ala pa hal nak gaduh2,yg korang nak kete laju ngan mcm2 spek wat pe,esok lusa klu korang meninggal korang akan dibawa pakai van jenazah yg bawak tak lebih dr 60km sejam jeeeeee.yg gaduh tu pa hal.tak payah nak sibuk2 145 hp punya kes.klu mampu beli bg yang tak mampu tapi buat mampu tu duduk diam2 jgn banyak complenn,klu bayar kete yg ada pun semput2 jgn mimpi la woi,kete ni product sikit aje tu pasal lah mahal!!!!!
