Honda will be taking part in the Dakar Rally, which is to be held in January 2013 in South America; assuming the world is still around then. Honda will participate as a works team in the competition’s motorcycle class.
The Japanese team is not green when it comes to racing bikes in the Dakar Rally. They have competed nine times in the Paris-Dakar Rally from 1981 to 1989, and added five trophies into their cabinet. The team is to be called Team HRC. The riders for the team will be Portuguese Helder Rodrigues (third in the 2012 Dakar Rally), Brazilian Felipe Zanol (who is a veteran in motocross and enduro races), Sam Sunderland of UK and Javier Pizzolito of Argentina.
Honda will field is a prototype machine based on the CRF450X. The bike is well known in the enduro-racing world as it combines ease of handling with superior strength. Kit parts will be available to teams that want to modify their CRF450X for the race.
