The Mazda MX-5 GT Concept was so well-received at Goodwood last year that a decision was made to put it into production, and the Japanese carmaker’s racing partner Jota has now revealed the car you can actually buy – only through Jota and Mazda dealer Lodge Garage in Aylesbury, UK.
The road-going Mazda MX-5 GT takes the MX-5 Coupe Sport Tech as its base. Its free-breathing 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine has been tuned to develop 203 hp (up from 157 hp). According to Auto Express, this comes courtesy of ECU tweaks and a sports exhaust.
As a result, the century sprint is accomplished in 6.4 seconds (down from 7.9) and top speed is limited to 224 km/h. Jota says there’s “minimal change to fuel consumption.”
In addition to uprated Bilstein dampers and a rear carbon fibre diffuser, the car also features leather Recaro seats, anthracite alloys and a “brilliant black” roof. White Pearl, True Red and Aluminium Silver Metallic body colours are offered. Options include a carbon boot lip spoiler, a carbon front splitter and Jota’s road-and-track Ohlins suspension.
Jota says service intervals are unchanged and after-sales support can be had throughout the UK dealer network. Each car will be a “post-registration modification” that maintains the comprehensive three-year standard warranty for all non-modified parts, with an aftermarket extension to cover the modified parts.
Jota’s Mazda MX-5 GT starts from 29,995 pounds (RM154k), including the donor car, which starts from 18,495 pounds (RM95k).
