SPAD’s brown TEKS1M fleet may no longer be exclusive to the Proton Exora as The Sun Daily reports that other makes such as the Toyota Innova might be added to enable SPAD to meet its target of having 7,500 units of the TEKS1M on the road by the end of 2015.

According to the report, there are currently only 1,000 units of the Proton Exora TEKS1M fleet in the Klang Valley, Johor and Penang. If those numbers are true, it s quite a number short of the 7,500 unit target.

The report adds that the TEKS1M-spec Toyota Innova will be priced at RM73,228 for the manual and RM76,011 for the auto. The Innova is currently an option for blue executive taxis.

According to car research website CarBase.my, retail prices for the Innova are RM93,691.38 for the 2.0 manual and from RM98,415.87 to RM105,779.57 for the auto. However, those are consumer specs and pricing – TEKS1M specs are usually different including different clauses for warranty.

NV200 London-12

The report says that SPAD is also in talks with other makes like Nissan. Nissan has been known to be pushing the NV200 as a taxi in various regions in a bid for “world taxi domination”.

It has successfully won the race to replace the Ford Crown Vic yellow cabs in New York and there has been a proposal for a NV200-based London Black Cab. Electric versions of the NV200 taxis are in use in Barcelona.
